Born in Fukui, Japan in 1977, Masakazu Ishiguro (Japanese name: 石黒正数) is an award-winning comic artist who made his debut in 2000 with the Afternoon Magazine Four Seasons Award winning short "HERO".

While Ishiguro initially cut his teeth within the science-fiction realm he is possibly best known for his comedies; particularly the Japan Media Arts Award winning And Yet the Town Moves (Shonen Gahosha). Whismical, stylish and often surreal, Ishiguro's works are often put into their own SF genre (slightly fantastical).

Der Manga geht wesentlich schneller als der Anime, deswegen finde ich letzteren erstmal besser. Aber jetzt heißt es erstmal 8 1/2 Monate warten 😭

3/5: what is happening I don't understand

La fin du précédent tome nous avait laissés sur un sacré retournement de situation dans l’institut où se trouvent les enfants ! Je dois bien dire que cela m’avait laissé sur ma faim et que j’avais hâte de voir comment tout cela allait évoluer.

Autant vous le dire, nous ne sommes absolument pas au bout de nos surprises. Loin de là ! Si l’on pensait même voir la fin venir, vu la tournure que cette trame prend, ce n’est pas encore pour tout de suite !

L’intrigue concernant les enfants de l’institut se complexifie encore plus. Si l’on pensait voir leur situation évoluer vers un prochain dénouement, de nouvelles révélations et de nouveaux rebondissements font que nous n’en sommes encore arrivés là. Dans un sens, si j’ai quand même peur que ça parte dans tous les sens et donc que cela me perde à un moment, je reste toujours autant intriguée.

Maintenant, revenons à ceux du « dehors », je parle bien sûr de notre duo de choc, Maru et Kiruko. Si de leur côté l’intrigue reste plus calme, je prends toujours beaucoup de plaisir à suivre leurs aventures et leurs avancées dans ce monde post-apocalyptique. Je trouve que ça reste plus psychologique avec Kiruko qui se pose tout un tas de questions (légitimes) sur son binôme avec Maru. Encore plus lorsqu’ils sauvent une jeune fille. Celle-ci a une mission à accomplir et, même si ça n’apporte pas d’eau au moulin de notre intrigue principale, j’ai apprécié cet aparté.

Bref. Je pourrais encore vous en parler durant des heures, revenir sur les différentes trames et m’interroger sur le moment ou les deux histoires allaient enfin se rejoindre. Mais, je vais m’arrêter-là.

Je terminerai ce billet en vous disant que A journey Beyond Heaven, c’est un bon manga, purement addictif avec un scénario bien pensé qui se complexifie au fil des tomes et qui ne s’essouffle pas. Au contraire, avec ce septième tome, l’intrigue est relancée avec de nouvelles données et interrogations.

J’aime toujours autant, et je trouve que le graphisme colle toujours aussi bien à ce style.

Si vous recherchez un bon manga, prenant, passionnant, lancez-vous ! Vous ne le regretterez pas.

The greatest strength of this volume lies in the way it tells two parallel stories. On the one hand, we have Maru and Kiruko , who traverse a devastated world, trying to survive and find answers to their mysterious purpose. On the other, we witness the dramatic events surrounding the Takahara Institute, where the situation is spiraling out of control. These two narratives initially seem very distant, but the author increasingly demonstrates their inevitability.

Maru and Kiruko's story remains the most classic in the volume, but that doesn't mean it's any less compelling. Their journey still feels like a journey through a post-disaster world, where around every corner there might be a new threat or someone in need of help. Maru remains a character brimming with energy and a certain childlike directness, but it's increasingly clear that there's much more to his behavior. Meanwhile, Kiruko's struggles with her identity, her past, and her relationship with Maru add further depth to the story.

The new story, set in Hell, perfectly captures the character of the world depicted in The Deceptive Sky . It's a place where the collapse of civilization doesn't mean the end of human problems. On the contrary, in a world stripped of its old rules, new forms of violence, exploitation of the weak, and the struggle for survival emerge. Ishiguro, however, doesn't overdo it with brutality. The most impressive element isn't the violence itself, but the awareness that the characters live in a reality where humans often prove to be a greater threat than the monsters. The section about the Takahara Institute is equally compelling. The events following the attack completely change the situation of the children, who until then had lived in a seemingly safe world. Suddenly, it turns out that the place called paradise was just another layer of a larger mystery.

I really like the way the author portrays the children at the Institute. They aren't just elements of a mystery, but full-fledged characters whose fates truly become compelling. Their abilities, relationships, and attempts to navigate their new reality make the sections devoted to the Institute among the volume's strongest moments.

Masakazu Ishiguro's art once again perfectly complements the story's atmosphere. The author doesn't rely on overly impressive shots, but skillfully builds the space and atmosphere of an abandoned world. The ruins, wastelands, and remnants of a bygone civilization all have their own character. In many scenes, you can almost feel the silence of this world, where nature slowly reclaims territory once taken by humans.

🔫Hoy os traigo reseña recién salida del horno y es que acabo de terminarlo hace nada y he flipado una vez más con esta serie!

🔫No os preocupéis que no habrá spoilers y podéis ver el resto de reseñas de Heavenly Delusion en mi perfil!

🔫Esta serie es una maravilla y no me canso de recomendarla pero es que alucino con como logra superarse tras cada tomo.

🔫En el séptimo volumen se desarrolla un poco más una de las dos historias simultáneas que tienen lugar en la trama, hasta el punto de que llegados a un punto ¡PAM! se destapa parte del pastel, resolviendo una de las incógnitas que nos perseguía desde el inicio de la serie.

🔫Al terminarlo he tenido que poner en orden todo lo leído hasta ahora, la historia ha dado un giro tornándose mucho más compleja pero ahora hay cosas que pasan a tener bastante sentido aunque podemos crear aún mil y una hipótesis.

🔫En resumidas cuentas, Heavenly Delusion vuelve a dejarnos con la boca abierta una vez más!

🔫Os recomiendo encarecidamente que le deis una oportunidad a estos mangas ahora que lleva pocos tomos editados y antes de que salga el anime, no os vais a arrepentir!!

The 7th volume! I decided to read on now that the anime is finished. I just cannot wait for a second season! In this one we see what happens after the bombing on the school and that the kids (for most at least) were taken to the civilised world (OH NO). Some directly, others took a bit longer. On the one hand I was happy the kids were taken to another place, on the other hand we know what the kids may bring/what they are.
There are some ominous things surrounding Nata which I am sure will all be revealed even more so in the next volume but I do have a big idea and it pisses me off that someone would do that. And of course there is that with Tokio.
And then we also follow Maru and Kiruko on their way through Japan to find the person who looks like Maru. The things they find along the way vary from weird/strange to awesome to WTF and sad (in case of the girl with the helmet). It sure is a trip and I would love to see this all animated!

So, we are now further in the story than the anime. I'm still pretty confused, though. I'm not sure if the kiruko were made by aliens or humans. If aliens even play a role at all. Apparently there's a meteor of interest, though? I'm not sure what the deal is with the Takahara Academy. Tokio did not die when I thought she did, and now I'm not sure who her baby actually is. Nata has me confused, too. Also, what caused the earthquakes?

On a side note, Helmu's story was dark. But as far as I'm concerned, she got as close to a happy ending as one can get after the apocalypse. It was horrifying, but she was able to avenge herself. So, not necessarily a happy ending, but good for her. All in all, I'm kind of lost. It's an interesting story, undoubtedly, but very confusing (at least to me). And the next volume doesn't come out in the US until December 2026, which sucks and probably won't help with how lost I feel. I'll keep an eye out for it anyway.

Chapter 39 opens with some shit about airport and spaceship. I really did not care for the Helm girl, but I wonder if it is a foreshadowing for Kiruko?

I hate seeing Kiruko calling herself trash or thinking about not letting Maru fall for someone like her...
Then her grabbing him THERE in chapter 42? Wtf, did I see that right? And then she almost says she loves something about him? These things are the only ones keeping me engaged.

I have absolutely no clue what is happening with Tokio and all that. It's just bizzare. Or the other children. Skip.

The only exception is Shiro and Mimihime in chapter 43. They are cute.

Le voy a plantar dos estrellas porque repite el patrón que me enfadó en el anterior tomo. De verdad, la serie está muy bien, pero cosas como estas no las veo necesarias. Que se quería dar una perspectiva para que Kiruko se reflejara en esa situación y hubiera una venganza, ok. Pero no es la forma ni la manera ni es necesario. Por lo demás, pues bueno. El manga sigue con su trama (que está muy bien) y conectando los puntos. Aunque estaría bien que no hiciera falta conectar absolutamente todo porque al final son demasiadas casualidades. Aún así, una gran historia.

Past where the anime ends now. I can see where the time jumping and following different characters gets confusing. The anime did such a good job with the adaptation. Really interesting and unique premise, excited to see where the story goes. Starting to connect some dots and it’s terrifying and interesting.
