Considering its publication vintage, I think this is a remarkable and important book. I read it many years ago in a library, and I was drawn to it because I'd seen a plate of one of Tchelitchew's most esteemed works ("Hide and Seek") in another book. I admired the research and thought Tyler put into the book, and enjoyed the illustrations, which I especially wanted to see. I can recommend this book.
Back when I read it, my enthusiasm was at a level one or two stars above the rating I'm giving the book now. It's my feeling that it's time for someone to digest and move beyond the biographical and contextual information Tyler discovered and pondered — meaning I believe the artist deserves more attention.
