Eddie has a great life with a loving wife and fabulous job. His work keeps him away from home for long stretches of time, but he counts down the moments until he gets to be back in his wife’s arms. He would do anything for her. Unfortunately, she doesn’t feel the same way, and plans on leaving Eddie for another man. Feeling crushed and betrayed, Eddie has a hard time trusting women. He knows it’s unfair; he knows not every woman is as evil as his ex-wife, but he can’t deny his feelings. As an ice miner, he’s expected to spend months at a time on his ship. Much to his chagrin, he is forced to spend it with Rie. Will being trapped on a ship with a woman help Eddie get over his fear and hatred of women and move on with his life? Are there any other options?

I am an editor by day and a zombie-killer by night (at least in my books). Since the first time I watched Night of the Living Dead, I have been obsessed with zombies and I often think of ways to survive the uprising.

I have written YA novels about zombies and the tough teens who survive the apocalyptic world, along with adult novels in the sci fi and fantasy genres. I have also written kids' books under the pen name J.D. Pooker.

I have written nonfiction stories for Serial Killer Magazine and published a book about slasher films called Life Lessons from Slasher Films under my real name.

Eddie Muroe is extremely excited to be returning home and to his wife. What he finds though is that she’s been seeing another man while he was away with work, and now she’s in the process of moving out, leaving him behind. Heartbroken, Eddie requests to have a shipmate who isn’t a female, unable to bear the thought of being away for a few months in close confines with a woman. Unfortunately for him, there aren’t any other assignments, and he faces the prospect of being on a ship for three months with Rie Danalgo. Determined to not lose his career, Eddie tries to keep things professional and his personal problems under wraps.

Slowly though, they stop avoiding one another and share small things, cooking meals together, target practice and games of cribbage. As the days turn into weeks both Eddie and Rie get closer and slowly a hesitant trust and friendship blossoms between them amongst the alien landscape. This is sweet romance, mostly centered around the pain of betrayal and the healing and tender opening of the heart afterwards. Set in a world full of missions and space travel, hydro-mining and a somewhat alternate reality it’s a wonderful mixture of emotional romance and science fiction. A gentle, heartwarming story; I really enjoyed this.

Returning home to surprise his wife, Eddie didn't expect to find her leaving. Now in a bit of a funk, Eddie needs to find some normalcy going back to work. Instead he is partnered with a woman who asks to many questions, but once he gets to know her he finds that letting go might be the best thing ever.

Very short story, was enjoyable but wished it had been a bit longer to fully develop the characters. I felt for Eddie and Rie is a perfect compliment to him.
