Within the past two years I've experimented quite a bit with automating XML transformations around e-book creation. Taking this book into my hands is a great confirmation of my own probings: A specialist like this author, who's working in this field for much longer than I do, solves problems in similar, sometimes even the same ways as I do. On a large scale this book didn't present anything new to me, but there are many interesting details I could learn from to improve my own workflows. The book is well-composed, presenting all the standard knowledge one needs for creating EPUB2 files and presenting an example workflow of conversion from Word documents to EPUB. However, I imagine that for a real newbie all parts are too condensed. Even though there is an introduction to XML and XSLT I doubt that somebody without some deeper understanding of those techniques can really get through this book.
