Hope's Chance

Rate this book
This title is no longer available. A Hope and a Chance is based on the story formally known as Hope's Chance with changes/updates to some character names and information.

When Hope's parents divorced two years ago, her life was turned upside down. To pass the time and avoid family issues, she took extra classes and graduated six months before turning eighteen. After being estranged for more than a year, her father moves back to their hometown. Hope is reluctant to visit him for the first time, but her mother insists.
The visit to his new mansion is not what she expected until she meets the secret guy living in the pool house.
A year ago, Chance Avery was on his way to a law degree courtesy of Penn State University, but something terrible happened. Chance has lost everyone in his life, except for his sister. When she moves to Virginia, he has no choice but to come along. With an agreement to renovate the Mansion, he gets to live in the pool house on the property. His life is boring and meaningless, until one day someone comes barging in his door.
When Hope and Chance run into each other again, they end up spending the night together, thinking they never have to see each other again. Then Hope finds out she has to move in with her father, who has already warned Chance that he is not allowed to touch his daughter.
Staying apart is a lot harder than either of them expected, and soon their feelings intensify to a breaking point, leaving them helplessly in love with one another. Will they be able to hide their relationship until Hope turns eighteen?

This book was SO cheesy. So unrealistic. So overly dramatic. So repetitive. I can almost always finish a book and this one I almost stopped reading. Take the worst teenage drama, add horrible actors, unoriginal plot and over the top, unrealistic dialogue and you've got this book. Painful to read.

I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I loved the main characters and their loved ones (except for her dad but I guess he does come around ...). One thing: I'm so glad the author didn't drag his past history. I thought she was going to be predictable and have him hide it from her because he would be afraid of her reaction. She then would find out and: A. doubt him or B. feel betrayed he kept it from her. Thank you for not doing that! I was also thrilled it's longer than most books I've been finding lately. Also, this book is very steamy ladies!!!! Definitely recommend this book.

1/25/2013.... Rereading this as a Buddy Read with Jenn M.

This book was just as good the second time around. I absolutely love Chance and Hope:)

Wow....this book was amazing. I was a little nervous because it started kind of slow for me, but it totally turned around and I fell in love with this book. It is one of my favs, I will definitely be reading this again. Chance and Hope's love story was great. They had a lot of hurdles to overcome but this story just let me believe that love can conquer all. If you love someone enough you can get through anything.

AMAZING story....I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who is looking for a great love story.

Great love story that gripped me from the very beginning. The whole time you're reading it you have no idea what's going to happen next. It had tons of hot passion and emotions. The story line will certainly keep you wondering will they be caught, will it work and what was the deal with Chance's past. Another great read by Jennifer Foor!

I found this one while surfing around in Amazon yesterday. It was a great new adult love story with a passionate romance, swoon-worthy male character and a little bit of conflict. I started it at 7:00 last night and wrapped it up at 3:45 this morning. It was a little longer than most of the books I have been reading which I liked and I had to know what happened to the characters in the end and wasn’t going to sleep until I did.

Even though Hope was only seventeen, she was not overly whiny or immature like some young characters can be. It seemed like her parents divorce and some adolescent difficulties had matured her some. She had a little bit of a defiant edge but was really rather mature for a young female. I also think her father’s absence for part of adolescence left her with a few relationship issues. She put up with some things from a boy that she should not have and didn’t wait long at all to get some attention from Chance.

Now Chance is smart, kind but incredibly damaged by an event that happened while he was in college. Now he has dropped out of school, avoids being in public and doesn’t think he is worthy of relationship or that anyone can forget what he did or what others think he did. I felt sorry for him because he spent too much time worrying what others think rather than living his life. Chance is also incredibly lonely so Hope doesn’t have to twist his arm much to get him to pay some attention to her.

I would say that neither thought they would fall in love but they did. Now this may not be such a bad thing under normal circumstances but Hope is 17 and Chance is 21. Oh, and Hope’s dad has warned Chance to stay away from his daughter. It is almost impossible to stand between two people who are madly in love, though, and they soon begin a secret love affair. Their love story was beautiful; they had complete respect and trust in each other and Chance would do anything to protect Hope.

It seems like a YA book is not complete without some type of parental issue and I absolutely disliked Hope’s father for some of the choices he made that sacrificed his daughter for a business deal. He redeemed himself a little bit but he is definitely on my top five list of parents in books that I can’t stand! I did love her father’s girlfriend Buffy. She wasn’t much older than Hope but she had some spunk and really cared about Hope.

The only thing keeping this book from a 4.5 to 5 rating is a little bit of lack of conflict or angst. There were some points in the beginning that really hit it but for the length of the book, I needed a little bit more to really make me love it. There were also a few spelling and grammatical error, nothing terrible but enough to notice. I would definitely read more books by Jennifer Foor.

Because of the steaminess of the love scenes and frequency, I would not call this a young adult novel. I would say it is New Adult because of the mature content!

27% done and I just HAVE to write a review. *Spoiler Alert*

One word for the first few chapters:

Unrealistic.

Lost respect for Hope when she acted like a slut and slept with a stranger because hes hot and "saved her life" *rolling my eyes*. Lost respect for Chance when he had sex with her knowing she was intoxicated, he didn't use a condom, not knowing if she was on birth control! Douchy idiotic move. Lost respect for the book when you created this "special connection" *sarcastic voice* the morning after even though they know absolutely nothing about each other that would create said "bond". Lost respect again for Hope when she found out about Chance being a suspect and she did nothing to clear his name just because he treated her like the slutty, drunk, one night stand THAT SHE WAS! She genuinely expected him to have "feelings" for her after putting herself out like a whore and since he actually did like her then hes just an idiot....

Another ‘can’t put down’ read from the very talented Jennifer Foor. This I think is the 7th book that I’ve read by this author. First I was hooked on The Mitchell Family Series and wanting more, I remembered I had Hope’s Chance and I am so glad I did.

It a story of Hope who has just graduated early with her high school diploma and is six months from turning 18. Hope’s father has returned to her home town with his girlfriend and wants to see his daughter, who he left with his ex wife, without thinking about Hope.

On her first visit to her father’s house she sees more than she bargained for in the pool house – wow!

Chance Avery is 21 and the brother of her father’s girlfriend who has had something terrible happen to him in the not too distant past. He is living with them and working for Hope’s father doing the house up.

After Hope gets abandoned by her friend, Chance comes to the rescue and they end up spending the night together, not expecting to see each other again. But Hope ends up moving into her father’s house and at first they try to keep their distance, especially after Hope’s father warns Chance away from his daughter.

The staying away from each other gets harder and harder…..

This is a great read, totally loved it and can’t wait for “The Diary of a Male Maid.”

WOW!!!!,what a fantastic story, Hope has to live with her father and his very young new girlfriend after having not seen her dad in a long time.
Chance has moved in with his sister and her older boyfriend, living in there boathouse while doing jobs in the house for them, Chance needed a new start where no one new him after he leaves Uni when something terrible happened to him. He meets Hope and falls in love but they cant let anyone find out as she is to young and he's afraid his past will push Hope away.

This was a brilliant true to life story, Jennifer did a great job in keeping you right there with the characters, I laughed, I cried and I fell in love with chance. READ IT, you wont be dissapointed.

WOW once in a while a book can really surpise you and Hope's Chance did just that. From the start I was pulled in to the story and the characters. I loved how it was told from Hope & Chance's POV. Both had great believeable voice's and where very likeable. I loved the romance between the two of them. A great New Adult contemp read. I want to read more from this author.

This is a sweet story but far too cheesy for me. Also the language used really annoyed me. It was all: I am, we are, I will instead if I'm, we're, I'll etc. it just got tedious.
Also it seems that when you hit 18, magically you're an adult and your parents just do and say exactly what you want them too. I don't remember it quite like that.

I don't know what is it with me and all the daddy issues books I've read in the past month. I guess it hits home, cause my dad has neglected me for most of my life.
I guess, I am speaking for everyone when I say that I rad this book for the heavy scenes. And I mean like real heavy and a lot of them, because they made the book a bit better. Not saying it was bad without all the intimacy but I feel like it truly was the best way to show how much they loved and (lusted after)each other. Though, I have to admit, at some points it got on my nerves because there's a lot more to a relationship than sex.
Other than that, I felt like it was a good read, the characters grew and I loved the happy ending.

I thought I would really like this book since many people gave good reviews on it, but I didn't well not as much as I thought I would. The story was okay but it could have been better, and the characters were not that interesting. The couple just had sex, sex, sex, and their romance felt unreal. I mean they just met and after a week I think or even less then that they have sex again and keep on having sex withouth anyone knowing (and they think they are in love :p). This book didn't work for me because I wanted humor, charactrers you could relate to, and a romance that would be so good that I will remember even after finishing the book, and this book didn't have it. The author disappointed me completely. Don't think I will read another one of her books again!

Okay.. so I definitely liked this story.. Hope and Chance were really good together.. And I thought that just like every story with a young step-mother/girlfriend clinging to the heroines' father I would hate her.. But not! Buffy was actually adorable and I loved her! Now that's a first!

What I didn't like are the extreme adult content.. It was just too much if you ask me that my eyes burn each time I have to read them.. Anyway, this is a good book to read!

T Think Hope's Chance is a sweet story but way too cheesy and sappy for me.

I found it very disturbing how a 17 year old was portraid as almost a porn star. I'm not against Young Adult or even New Adult genre, I just dont think this was a book that represented a mature strong young woman. Hope's character was just a whiny irritating and horny girl.

I would have prefered to read the entire book from Chance's POV.

2 stars.

Simplemente horrible a mi gusto.

This book has a beautiful story and is well written however not much really happened to give it some drama I think some of the story lines could of been bit more intense like chances past story with the missing girl and his ex girlfriend.
