For six consecutive years, the serial killer dubbed Cupid has struck, leaving a pair of lovers brutally murdered on February 14 at exactly 7 p.m.
Each year, a man and a woman bound by love would be kidnapped, and two days later, slaughtered in a barbaric ritual that left them entwined for eternity. They would be found in a frozen, gruesome human sculpture that reflected the twisted and tortured mind of Cupid.
Richard Turner, a detective inspector with the metropolitan police has been chasing the shadow of death since the first murder had been committed back in 2006, but he was no closer to ending Cupid’s trail of horror, than he was on day one.
This year however, Cupid made a mistake. This year, he has snatched Tom Wilson and his fiancée Karen Carter. That meant that he would have an extra man hunting him, for Tom Wilson has a friend, a friend you would not want as an enemy. This year, Cupid would need to look over his shoulder, because that man was ex-SAS trooper John Hanson, and he was coming for his friend. He was coming like a train.
This book is action packed straight through. From the time you meet the hero you know that he is a force to be reckoned with and will get the job done. The characters are well developed and their emotions are easy to follow. You not only get a hero to love but you also get a villian that you will love to hate.
Great read and highly recommended for anyone who loves a good serial killer fiction.
I believed this was a long story / series much like the Ben Hope (Scott Mariani) series or Jack Reacher (Lee Child) and I was partially right. The main character is all what you expect but without any blemishes. Great basis for a series but with the perfect man/machine in pursuit there is no other end than object failure for the bad guy. I found there was a lot of repetition about the characters and padding around the story which was strange as it was a short story only 150 pages long. Could have done a lot more.
(sorry, no - major - spoilers! you want the story, read the book! I mean it - ya won't be disappointed!!!)
It is fast paced, and has quite enough twists, and good characters. I can totally see this as a pilot for a TV series...
there is a grey area wide enough... sometimes good people find themselves resorting to less than ethic or even legal activities to make things right...
and am thrilled Hanson did save his friends - real close! - and the way Turner tweaked the forensic information to save Hanson.
Pretty gory too - so maybe not for the squeamish - nor kids!
It was good and for people who like the thriller genre with serial killers, etc, this is a good book. My only trouble was with how overplayed and Chuck Norris-y the main character came off as. More caricature than character.
Not bad. Held my attention, and I finished it very quickly. Found it more of an easy read than a gripping story that had me desperately wanting to find out what happened next. Realistically I found it a bit predictable, but nevertheless, did enjoy it, hence the four stars, rather than three.
This had real potential but was blown by a rushed ending . I also wondered my the author kept repeating details , just in case we can't remember something he has describe only 10 pages ago .....
