Keir St. Hever is a powerful garrison commander for Lord Coverdale on the border of the Cumbrian vales. Whilst attending battle, he receives word that his own castle is under attack. Keir returns to Pendragon Castle to discover that his wife and daughter have been murdered, and his young son is missing. So begins Keir’s descent into hell and despair.
Three years later, Keir is still searching for his son as he is called upon to rescue the family of an ally whose castle is under siege. Once Keir fights his way inside, the damsel he is supposed to rescue does not believe he is there to assist her and a great battle ensues. But somewhere during that battle, Keir finds a strange and uncontrollable fascination with the Lady Chloe-Louise de Geld. When she’s not trying to gouge his eyes out, he catches glimpses of a woman of magnificent red hair, porcelain skin, and delicate features. And so, the love story begins....
Chloe is a much sought after beauty, brilliant, sweet and feisty. She awakens within Keir long-dormant emotions, feelings he believed died when his family perished. He doesn't want to love Chloe but he cannot help himself. His attention should be on finding his missing son but he finds it diverted by a woman he is falling more deeply in love with by the day.
A vindictive and evil neighbor, however, who has wanted Chloe for his own, discovers St. Hever’s interest and uses lies and manipulation to convince Keir that he has Keir’s long-lost son. He proposes a trade – Chloe for the boy. Before Keir can make a decision, Chloe takes matters in to her own hands and the situation goes horribly awry.
Through death, battle, vengeful enemies and ghostly visitors, Keir and Chloe’s love remains strong and unbreakable, and in the end Keir must once again wield his sword to save the woman he loves. With flashbacks of the family he was unable to save, will he be too late?

I almost did not read this story because several reviewers cited that the ending was not a happy one. The ending was what was desired but since there was a touch of the bitter-sweet to it the ending had a more realistic touch to it that is often not addressed by some romance authors.
One of the reasons I truly enjoy Ms. Le Veque's books is that they take place in Medieval times; an era that she romanticises just enough for a good romance but then there is enough grit to let the reader know that this era was not simply kisses, balls, pretty dresses, and handsome knights.
The grit comes in the tragic beginning with the cruel death of Keir's family while he is away helping an ally fortify his castle. It nearly destroys the man. I have to say that I took issue with a few reviewers that criticised Keir for his tears. He was not an emotional wimp but a man whose emotions were broken, laid raw, and he had to cope with that and still be the warrior expected of him. Forgive the man when he weeps over both tragedy and joy because he truly understands what each costs him.
Love does bring Keir back to his centre, and Chloe is a woman of good heart. HOWEVER... Chloe, thinking at times that she understands a situation better than those around her gets into some truly frightening fixes. I really think that it is Luck (pulling her hair out by the roots) that keeps those two together!
Be prepared with your kleenex, and to clutch your heart with fear and despair but know that throughout the story Love does win the day.
Sometimes romantic, sometimes terribly sad, sometimes I wanted to strangle Chloe, sometimes I wanted to hug Keir, and the end... Uh the ending epilogue is so disappointingly bittersweet. I just want to rewrite it myself so I can go about my day with my head in the clouds not waiting for 'heaven'.
I really enjoyed this book. The feelings between Keri and Chloe were palpable and his story was very sad. I don't read many medieval romances so this was a rare treat. At times Chloe frustrated me with her choices but overall I thought the book was really enjoyable. I was also hoping for an epilogue that would show me a bit more of their life in the years to come. I don't love when books have the big climax and then are suddenly over. I also hope that the rest of the Dragonblade series will have some continuation of these families but not sure they do. I will read more from this author.
This is a amazing story of a lost grieving knight and the lady that brings him back to life. The hero Keir is a remarkable man. He is the kind of knight all women dream of; handsome, caring, courageous, and compassionate. The devotion he shows to the heroine is awe inspiring. The heroine is also are very like able character. Except she does cry a awful lot. lol You cant kelp but fall in love with the other minor characters as well. At first I wasn't sure I would like Keir's brother Kurtis. But he won me over rather quickly, and you can't but love him for his devotion to his brother. I love seeing strong bonds like that. A great plus to this story is the involvement of Garran de Moray who is the son thats born at the end of the "Gorgon". Which is my favorite book by this author. It warmed my heart to see him in this story. His daughter is in it as well and even better her name is Summer. So anyone who read the "Gorgon" you are in for a treat.
If you don't like a story thats a tear jerker, suck it up because this story is too good to pass up! lol
I loved this story. A tale of love, healing and a little bit of tragedy thrown in too. There are some paranormal elements to this story, but they don’t dominate the story or make it any less realistic. Some lovely, well developed relationships between characters - especially Keir and Kurtis, Kier and Chloe, Kier and Michael. Looking forward to reading the next instalment!
Another excellent read by Kathryn Le Veque! Her characters are always so well developed with memorable personalities. This can be read as a standalone or as part of the book bundle, Masters of Medieval Romance. If you’re acquainted with Kathryn’s writing, then you will most likely love this one too.
Fragments Of Grace is a really exciting read - from start to finish. It tells the story of Keir, a knight with a tragic past, and Chloe, the daughter of a wealthy landowner. Chloe's enthusiasm, passion and openness help Keir heal the wounds of the past and he slowly opens up to the possibility of loving again. However, the path of true love does not run smooth, and Keir and Chloe have huge obstacles to face before they can truly be together.
What I liked about the novel:
- I really enjoy bitter-sweet stories (yes romance with happy endings can still be bitter-sweet!) and this one has a lot of sadness and darkness, which gives the story a lot more power than many traditional historical romances.
- I loved the romance and the deep feelings the two main protagonists have for each other. It truly is a 'love story' in the classic sense.
- The supporting cast of characters, and the secondary love stories, and all great and well-rounded. I must say that there were times when I preferred Chloe's feisty sister, Cassandra, to our heroine - and Summer (the young healer who appears at around the novel's three-quarter mark), is a fabulous character I would have liked to have seen developed further.
- I loved the action - there's not a dull moment throughout the novel. It sets a cracking pace and keeps you turning those pages.
What I didn't like so much...
I have given Fragments Of Grace 5 stars because I was thoroughly drawn in by it - however there were a couple of things that bugged me.
- I don't know how many times I heard that Chloe was the 'most beautiful woman in the whole North of England', and that her beauty was without comparison. After a while, it got a bit boring. I prefer reading about women who are a little more realistic, women I can actually relate to. As I mentioned above, I actually preferred Chloe's sister, Cassandra, as a character.
- Some of the descriptions were a little clumsy and rushed, which was a pity as there were some moments (especially towards the end), that deserved more attention given to them. Throughout the novel, there were a few too many instances of the author 'telling' us what the characters are like and how they feel, rather than 'showing' us.
Those niggles aside, I really enjoyed this book and recommend Fragments Of Grace to any lover of historical romance.
This was almost perfect I loved the characters so much,I have read very mixed reviews of this one but personally I really loved it. Kier was just the right mix of sensitive strong powerful Knight, Chloe did have a couple of annoying moments and her farther definitely got on my nerves. The other side characters especially Summer I really loved . I read this one after dragonblade so out of order but I will definitely be reading the next one .
3.5 stars. Fortunately, this edition of the book has a happier ending than the previous edition, from what I have read from the reviews, which I appreciate. More editing was needed, as I saw quite a few errors, and I usually never pay much attention to these details. As mentioned from other reviews, there was a little too much crying from the H/h, but overall it was a good read.
And the hero isn’t much better. This novel is well written and with rich detail but I was constantly annoyed by the monofaceted personalities of the leads. She is so sweet and stupid. He’s too romantic and emotional for a Knight. I skimmed most of the last 1/3 of the book.
Gotta love these heroines who make matters worse by their supposedly noble intentions! So frustrating. They make for dramatic moments but gaaaah it is so stupid and annoying!
Horror dikit tp ga ngaruh.
Overall, tetap enjoyable tapi ga begitu suka sama si Chloe. Di buku ini ada 2 pasangan lain yang juga so sweet. Pokoknya semua nemu jodoh deh 🤭
Keir St. Hever was on a mission with half his army when he got word that a neighbor had breached Pendragon Castle where his wife and two small children were still at home. His best friend Michael Pembury was the first up the stairs and could not believe the horrific scene. He tried to keep Keir away but was not successful. He found Keir in the chamber holding his wife and child that someone had set fire to. Pembury then noticed that Keir’s 2 year old son was missing. They looked for him but was unable to find him. Three years later Keir found himself at Exelby castle after it was breached in the same manner Pendragon his garrison was breached. They had to get Lord de Gelds wife and daughters out of the castle. Baron Ingilby had sent his army to bring back Chloe the daughter of Anton de Geld. He had wanted her for a long time but was always turned down. Then things changed between Keir and Chloe.
Another great story in the Dragonblade series by Kathryn Le Veque. This was actually the 1st book in the series but I have managed to start reading them out of order. This is the story of Keir St Hever, a very honorable knight who has seen a lot of grief & loss in his young life. His castle was breached while he was on a mission 3 years ago and he lost his wife and 2 children. Now, we find him trying to rescue a woman and her two grown daughters from the same type of situation, only this one is created by an evil neighbor who wants the younger girl as a wife & refuses to take NO for an answer. Keir falls for the younger daughter and she for him and they plan to marry. However, things get mucked up because the evil neighbor continues to be a problem. It takes a lot to get the romance on the right track for this wonderful couple. I mistletoe author!
After an horrific tragedy three years earlier, Keir St Hever has shut down mentally as he battles with ghosts from the past. But that is until he meets the Lady Chloe Louise de Geld. Outstandingly beautiful, his interest is peaked, and although he fights against it, the walls around his heart start to crumble, but he is not alone. Another wants 'his Goddess' for himself, and so the battle commences. As for Lady Chloe, she is drawn to the huge, powerful, muscular and extremely handsome knight, St Hever. Will they find happiness and love, only time will tell. Kathryn Le Veque has a way of bringing these wonderful characters to life with her beautifully descriptive writing. This book is full of emotion and passion with a sprinkling of humour, that not only captivates you, but pulls at your heart strings. I absolutely loved this extremely engaging story.
Keir and Chloe. Keir is a great knight and commander of the Coverdale armies. He is sent to rescue the daughters of an ally who’s castle was under siege. The enemy was trying to get the oldest daughter, Chloe whom he called a goddess. As soon as Keir saw her he knew why. Her beauty was beyond compare. It is the first time he has felt anything since his wife and daughter were killed and his son went missing. Chloe felt a similar attraction to Keir. They grew closer and quickly fell in love. However, the enemy was plotting to get Chloe again. This story is sad and contains some poor decisions Chloe and her parents that make it difficult for Chloe and Keir to be together. Action packed with some mystery and even a Ghost. A good story worth reading.
A knight, Sir Keir, comes back to a devastating image, of his wife and daughter killed, during a siege in his absence. His small son could not be found. The knight is restrained by his men and brother, for fear of what he would do in his grief. Three years later, another seize, but this time, three women are rescued by Sir Keir. He swears protection for one of the woman, which starts a saga of epic portions, across England and Wales, with a man of extreme lust and arrogance, who pursues the woman in Sir Keir's care, stopping at nothing to gain her.
This is my first novel by this author. While enjoyed the story immensely, the female characters really annoyed me. They cried for everything. I appreciate strong female leads but (with the exception of the main characters mother), all the women in novel first inclination was to become emotional. They would scream and bawl before thinking clearly. Actually, this is the first novel where the author depicted the male lead unabashedly shedding tears a couple of times as well. Apart from that small issue, the plot was interesting enough that I plan to check out some more of her novels.
Keir lost his wife and daughter while he was away amd his son is missing. He grieved for long time and upon rescuing Chloë’ and being her protector she awakens his heart. Now dealing with her unwanted suitor who destroyed her home in an attempt to take her he fights for his new wife and possibly his son.
Good book but with sad events. Keir’s grief is real and you feel his pain but you also feel Chloë’s strong kind heart amd feel her light she brings into a man who suffered . great book
I read this book last out of the Dragonblade series but it was a standalone story. Keir rescues Chloe at the beginning of the story and develops his relationship with her from there. There is a rival suitor for her affections that takes extreme measures to claim her. These actions wreak havoc on their plans for the future. Keir’s past and their present collide in this story. It is very sad in places but there is some light at the end of the tunnel!
A very interesting story about a man who lose his family and goes mad and it took him three years to get over his loss. He find love again and also has to fight for his king . I give this story a five star rating any story that is good and also make you cry has to be good.
Keir St. Hever was married and had two children. The wife and young daughter killed together. Both killed upon siege of his castle. His young son was never found. Years later Keir finds himself falling in love with Chloe. It's their story that we read today. Know this is for 18 years and over.
I just finished reading this series of the Dragonblade. I have totally fallen in love with her books, history and the love each knight has for their spouses. The stories are so believable as they trap your interest. A must read for anyone who loves this era.. Can't wait to find my next read.
It's a shame I had to take a star off for sexual content and you came very close to ruining the main character for me. But otherwise it was hard to put down. I know there are more books in this series and again I will have to leaf through the trash but in the future please close the bedroom door. The sexual content is not needed in a book this riveting.
There is nothing I can say that I have not already said about Kathryn’s books. All I can say is I keep loseing a lot of sleep because I cannot put the book down until I have finished it. That is the same with all of Kathryn,s books. Looking forward to the next one.
This book I did not enjoy as all the other books I've read by K..Le Veque. I am not a big fan of the spoilt women in books that throw temper tantrums. And also think they know how to save the day in a troubling situation.. This book was also too mushy for me with it sounding fake.
Very excited to start another one of Le Veque's series. It starts off with a bang and never lets up with the drama and suspense. It has a very touching ending . Loved it!
I checked 3 stars because of the predictable story line. I love the authors say of describing the characters. It's a good starter book for someone looking for an historical romance .
