Kodaka-sensei made her debut in 1989 with Sessa Takuma! in Shounen Champion. Today she is one of the most popular Boys' Love authors. She is famous for her work on designing the characters for Triple X's BL anime Boku no Sekuhara (My Sexual Harassment) and is also the beloved author of Kizuna.
Matoh Sanami taught her how to draw using a shoujo-style. Sanami Matoh and Kazuma Kodaka are actually very good friends.
Well, this series gets ever deeper into the complicated relationships that lead Yamato has with the members of his P.I. team - last book it was Kippei and now we're focussing on Sohgo (who is my personal yummy to go to in this series ^^). And you can't but admire K2's amazing current skill level in making a lot of angsty but not very original school background riveting because you care for the characters by now - I think it was a good idea to save Sohgo's story for last.
Although in comparison to Tamaki and Kippei's stories, Sohgo's story in this volume (it's just the start of a suspense plot and mayb e even of the flashback, I believe) is also Yamato's story to a larger extent than before.
Sohgo is NOT one of Yamato's fellow orphans - they met and became friends in their first year of high school by being members of the same martial arts school club. The current suspense plot also touches two former members of that school martial arts club, which is where the flashbacks come in.
I LOVE that K2 has Yamato be gay! in his personal version of it (I don't think you can pin him down as drag queen and he is not butch, but he is an incredible fighter from the start and he's muscled like whipcord) and consequently at that. This is NOT a gay for you situation or part of a trauma - although we do get teen angst here because Yamato is still figuring out what he wants.
When he meets Sohgo he already knows that he is gay .
What he hasn't expected is falling for Sohgo, who is happily in love with a very kind girl in a wheelchair (another kudos for K2 for not making her a bitch) but really would like to get to know Yamato better. He has an affinity for him which makes him want to be best friends with Yamato.
But Yamato, who is no asshole and respects Sohgo's feelings, can't cope with falling love with a peer for the first time. To get rid of his sexual frustration he makes a move on the martial arts club captain who is very similar in body type to Sohgo. And here K2 gives her all for the fangirls - the sex is a mix of sordid and really hot and you can see the two getting entangled - the captain even emotionally.
Eventually Sohgo discovers the two, but the two can save their friendship at that time because Sohgo has no problem with his friend being gay - what he doesn't see then and is only told in the current time line by the former captain is that Yamato loves him (his girlfriend is dead by that time, another thread in the upcoming suspense plot I believe).
And the art! Just check the first coloured page of teenage Yamato and Sohgo and you're not surprised about the lusting ^^.
P.S. I loved K2's comment at the end about finally getting into typical boy's love territory and enjoying herself. True enough ^^.
P.P.S. The translation is really good, but WHAT the heck is the idea of translating the sound effect *bow* with *bend down*?? You can see the movement so it makes NO SENSE!

Another wonderful volume in an absolutely brilliant series. I love all the characters so much, and while it would be nice to know for sure whether my OTP is going to come true or not, I also love that for once it isn't clear how it'll all end up. Volume four focuses on the relationship between Sohgo and Yamato - present and past. I wouldn't have thought that it'd be possible for me to love Sohgo even more, but I was proven wrong. Ah, this was just wonderful. Too bad there's no telling when volume 5 is coming out :/
Kazuma Kodaka never disappoints. I just love how three-dimensional all her characters are and how deep and broad her stories seem because of that. Everything she writes feels so... alive. And it's not just because of the character arcs, it's all in the details, in the way her characters tease each other, how close they are...
This one tells us more about Yamato and Sohgo's friendship - and about the secret Yamato has kept from Sohgo all these years...
Ah! So much to love in this volume! Kippei and the "dirty adult conversation", Yamato making a self discovery while at the pachinko parlor, high school flashbacks of Yamato and Sogo! I'm such a sucker for high school romances in manga. XD Can't wait for the next book.
The BL was everywhere in this one. It started as adults and then went back to HS. I don't remember that much sex in school but....Even after he and Sempai had sex, you could tell he really cared about him. But the only one he loves is Sogo and the guy who took the bullet that he never said I love you to. But Sogo, he has loved longer. He just cannot say it. I think Sogo is getting to the point where he is realizing he may have more than friend love.
Worth the wait! The guys take a case from an old classmate who is also Sohgo und Yamato's friend from school. We're given the back story to Sohgo und Yamato's first meeting, in their high schools days and Yamato's secret crush on Sohgo who had a girlfriend. This book is a part one so you will be left with a cliffhanger. So buy book 4 and 5 together like I dd. You will not be disappointed.
