Megan had lived a life of pure hell. Always running from her tortured past, one cold dark night brought her to the small Texas town. Fighting to escape the torture she'd known, Megan never expected to find true love in the arms of the tall, dark and handsome ranch owner. Nor did Blake Moore ever expect the small firecracker of a woman to turn his life upside down.
SUMMARY Megan has been running away from her past and found her way to Blake's ranch, where she got a job. Feelings develop between them, but can she let go of the awful past in order to have a future with the man she now loves?
MY OPINIONS > First of all, good plotline, but this book had way too many grammar, spelling, punctuation and silly editing erros to be taken seriously. It is a shame when an author puts so much time and effort into a story, only to ignore everything else. The book does not flow, some sentences make no sense, there are plenty of grammatical mistakes, as well as information dumping all over the place... > I liked the characters - even though emotionally scarred, Megan does not constantly behave like a victim and is mostly portrayed as a strong heroine. Blake was the typical strong, silent type, until he fell head over heels in love - which was cute, too. However, one character flaw that the author (maybe accidentally?) gave to Megan, but was never properly addressed - in a small town (where apparently she is not even supposed to be living with an old man - Gus - because "people talk", so she has to leave), Megan is acting pretty slutty... Flirting and dancing in the bar with all the cowboys (she is a waitress, so why is she dancing with all the bar patrons?!?!)... She flirts even with Smitty, whom she was warned against for being dangerous with women... Why is she leading everyone on?! Especially someone like her (with the terrible experiences she has had in the past) should know better than to behave like that in her male dominated surroundings... > Overall, the plot was not bad, but all the mistakes take away from the whole experience greatly. Also, there are some random conversations thrown in there and events that make little sense...Some messily given explanations and revelations... Definitely could not give it more than 2*, despite it's potential...
2.8 is a more realistic rating. The book isn't horrible, it has a story but I found the book to be too wordy in places.I also had trouble believing a woman who has been repeatedly raped on several occassions and suffers loss of family one after the other including her baby, then moves on to another life where she works in a bar and is hit on roughly several times; then finds love and a love life but before the end her ex catches up for some more ratpe - well I just don't see how a woman comes back from all of that and has a happy ending. Don't get me wrong I always would want them to find their happiness, I just believe it is realistic.
Honestly, I would have loved to have been able to give this a better review. The actual story line was pretty good and the characters were likable enough, but the grammar was neglected to the point that it made the book somewhat difficult to get through. An example would be something such as "he don't" instead of "he doesn't." For me, that's distracting from the story and it was consistent enough that I couldn't really enjoy the story.
I loved this book! Megan has a rough past, but she still comes across as a strong compassionate woman. At times Blake can be a real jerk until he realizes there's more to Megan's life than he realizes. Some sad points but overall a great story!
This book has a wonderful story line with well developed characters but the lack of editing distracted from the book. It could also use a few chapters just to break it up and give the reader definite stopping points. With a few minor adjustments this would be a 4 or 5 star book easy.
It was good. More communication between the main characters would have helped a lot. Either the formatting for the ebook was not done correctly or the book needed to be edited more.
I liked the premise but couldn't get past the lack of editing. I usually am more forgiving of this in self-published books, but this really needs some work. I do love a traumatized heroine, though!
