Journee has been single for a while. Her last relationship didn’t end on the best of terms, and she isn’t explicitly looking for something when she goes for a girl’s night out and meets Killian at a bar. They’re best friends are dating, and the groups join one another and keep the festivities going through the night.
Killian is such an alpha, and the author does a fantastic job of keeping it away from being domineering. Sometimes it’s hard to walk that line and the character may venture into asshole territory, but it’s easy to see that Killian is far from that. He’s observant and attentive to Journee’s needs, actions and reactions. No matter how minor they may seem.
Journee is such a great female character to read. She’s strong willed and she doesn’t let anyone walk over her, her sisters, or her friends which we saw in book one and get more of in this one. She’s used to taking care of everything so letting go and handing the reins over to Killian is hard for her at first. With her previous relationship, she’d fallen into habits unlike herself to compromise even when she was the only one doing so, and Killian helps her out of that. There are few instances where there are some hiccups, but the communication, just like the chemistry between the two is impeccable.
It’s apparent from the moment the two meet that there is a strong physical attraction between them even if Journee fights it for a little while, but when she lets go it’s like an erupting volcano. I felt the heat coming off the pages, and the author did a great job of making it organic. The chemistry between them is palpable whether they’re in the bedroom or out in public.
When they are in the bedroom it’s explosive. The author set the mood for us for those chapters, and it heightened the reading experience. It made it feel like the heat was turned to a thousand. It was enjoyable to hear what the author heard, or hear what she felt fit the scenes and as always, they didn’t disappoint. The detail and description didn’t miss, and it was great.
Sidenote: If you don’t like descriptive sex scenes that paint a graphic picture and could be lengthy you need to skip the chapters with titles at the top. The story will still be enjoyable for you.
Watching how their relationship started, and how it gradually changed and grew was such a treat. We clearly knew what they were out to accomplish in the beginning, and it was easy to spot the subtle shifts in what they were building towards in both of them.
Of all the couples the author has written, I think these two complement each other the best. Journee has a thriving business that she enjoys and is building her clientele as we see in the book. We even get a nice cross over of a prominent wealthy couple. Killian has also made it to where he wants to be in his career with over a decade and a half under his belt. Even though their professions are on opposite ends of the spectrum, they mirror one another in terms of being where they want to be. They are without a doubt a grown and sexy couple, and they're so thoughtful of each other.
The closure of the book was sweet, and just what was needed to wrap things up neatly instead of going in a different direction and leaving their relationship sort of dangling in the wind. I also enjoyed the glimpses we got into another potential couple, and I can’t wait to see how that unfolds.
There’s so much I could say, but I don’t spoil it for anyone. If you’re looking for a sexy alpha male and a strong female lead who have unbelievable chemistry this is the book for you.
