Our little sleepy head sees monsters everywhere in his house. He sees them under his bed, in the closet, and under the house. His mother tries to reassure him that there is no such thing as monsters and it's all in his imagination, but then...OH! What rotten luck!!! Well, you'll just have to read the book to find out what happens.
The gorgeous illustrations will captivate your child's imagination and bring them back to read it over again and again.
This was a good little bedtime book. Not long or complicated. It had a nice rhyming prose and kept my little one engaged the whole time. The pictures were clear and the words were not too small. I really liked it and the book gave me a chance to use different voices without difficulty. It had a 2 thumbs up for my 3 year old son, who said and I quote, "I can go to sleep now." with a smile on his face. :)
(3.5) Bold and bright illustrations, rhythmic flow to the read, and a cute take on the fear of monsters in the dark. I good book to introduce to toddlers that might help tame the fear of the "boogie man".
Young kids love repetition (How many times has your child read or listened to the same book?). In this story. the reader/listener hears Mother's assurances that there are no monsters, but the children SEE the hiding monster.
This is delicious fun for younger kids: Mom is right there to protect her child but the monster IS there. Michael Yu cleverly illustrates the monster in tones of soft purple. Children may wonder if this monster is a friend or a fearsome enemy, but the author never lets the monster seem too scary.
When the child and his mother see the monster crying, they know that this monster needs help. In spite of all the bad press about monsters, the child knows that he safe and he can help his new friend.
It's time for bed but the little boy sees monsters everywhere. His mother shows him there are no monsters under the bed or in corners or in closets. The last place she looks, there is a monster. He is crying because everything thinks he is scary. What can they do?
I enjoyed this book. The illustrations are gorgeous. The story is told in rhyme. It is perfect for those learning to read. It's a fun read.
What great pictures! I loved them so much. I loved the story, too. The rhythm falls apart, though, when the title theme is repeated. Still, I think this would have been a favorite for my children and I to read so long ago. This was a great message to all of us that see things with our imagination after dark. That dark coat hanging on the door can look like a person standing there. It has had my heart beating with fear on occasion. ;-)
I couldn't resist the beautiful colors and artwork that jumped off the page. I was a little let down because there was a rhythm of rhyming that started and stopped. Either one or the other might of flowed better. Still I always love a kids book. :)
I read this book to my grandkids and they loved it. So did I for both story and illustrations. But there are so monsters! I have a few on my reading list--that 2,200 page book for instance! So it's really relaxing to read aloud a book about monsters that is only about 30 pages.
This is such a fun little story for any kid who sees monsters in the shadows when it's time for bed. it's a very easy read and there is a lot of fun rhyming. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend!
This book is all good except it gives me bad dreams of the purple monster. In my dream the monster said you have no reason to cuddle with me because I'm a bad purple monster he said with a scream. That scared me.
I really liked it because there was a real monster in the book. It made me feel safe and relaxed at bedtime and not afraid of monsters anymore. I am in first grade and I think other kids my age would like this book.
Who hasn't feared a monster under their bed or in the closet? Denial of the existence of such sometimes doesn't comfort a chi l d. Mr. Yu's family creates a different twist on an old problem. Just wonderful.
This book is cute with all the rhymes. It has wonderful pictures to go along with each of the pages. This book is great for all of those readers who are afraid of the dark.
