Cemetery View is a riveting standalone thriller. If you like relatable heroines, fast-paced drama, and dark twists, then you’ll love A.M. Caplan’s nail-biting tale.
In my high school English class I was caught with a book behind the book I was supposed to be reading. Detention gave me a chance to finish them both in peace. Eventually I read so many books that they started to come back out.
By way of most of the coasts, I reside in the major metropolis of Sayre, PA with my husband and our cat that sees dead people.
Tādas švakas 3.5⭐️ - lasīt var, bet līdz galam neaizrāva.
Īsti neredzēju jēgu paranormālajām nodaļām (tas pat nav kā spoileris, jo tur tiešām nekāda pienesuma nebija). Labi, ka tās bija tikai dažas but WHY? 🤷♀️
Laikam jāpriecājas, ka e-grāmata paķerta bez maksas "stuff your kindle" ietvaros.
I thought this book was way to slow for most of the story. I wanted to give up on it many times. It was well over 30 chapters before anything really started to happen. The main character was just too dumb acting. I would forget that she was older. I kept thinking she was still a teenager. Her life is just one big secret, yet she whined all the time. 2 of the male character seemed to be sprinkled in. Why? I'm not sure. I guess just to have more characters to wonder about. But the story was too transparent. You already knew who the killer was. Nope, I won't be reading this author again.
This one started slow for me ( the first 50% of the book moved at a glacial pace) but by the second half, I was completely hooked.
Stella returns home and while helping her father clean up after a storm, she ends up discovering her mother’s body buried beneath the backyard pool. Her mother vanished ten years ago without a trace, and now her father’s the prime suspect. As long-buried secrets rise to the surface (pun absolutely intended), Stella is forced to confront some old flames (I was dreading this would turn into love triangle soap opera at this point) and some dangerous truths about the night her mother disappeared.
The first half was heavy on atmosphere but light on momentum. I struggled to connect with the ghost element, which felt more like window dressing than a necessary part of the plot. But once the mystery/ thrills really kick in, it races. The second half delivered the kind of high-stakes suspense and emotional payoff I was hoping for but I still wish I didn’t have to plod through half the book to get there.
If you like small-town secrets, murder mysteries with messy family dynamics, and books that save their best punches for the final round, this one’s worth sticking with.
This book was an interesting one, I will give it that much, although I'm a little confused as to why the author bothered dedicating chapters to the point of view of a ghost (and had the ghost appear randomly almost like a side-character in other chapters) if nothing was going to come of it. Especially at the end, I was expecting the ghost of Stella's mother to appear, to help her in some way, but that never happened.
The in between parts were decent, although it was easy for me to figure out who the bad guy was pretty early on, I wondered if Stella would ever figure it out. I also had to wonder why she didn't just put her foot down and tell one of the two men in her life that she wasn't interested. Instead, it made her seem as though she was leading both of them on, and really I also blame her father for this as well. Once he saw them together as adults instead of giving his grown daughter a vague "stay away from him" warning, he should have just told her the truth. Because knowing what I knew, some of these interactions were just stomach churning. And from the sound of it, no one had ever told the culprit the truth either, or maybe this book would have taken a much different turn.
And finally that ending. After everything that Stella had gone though, that was how she chose to handle things? Sure, she made it look like the person had left town on their own (much like that person had done her mother years before), but there was a clear case to be made for what happened and Stella had the injuries to back up her claims. There was absolutely no need for her to cover anything up, nor live with the guilt of what she did after the fact.
All things considered, I would probably read more from this author just to see how they do with a different set of characters. And if you like your stories with some interesting twists, you may enjoy this one more than I did.
This didn't suck and I'm slightly surprised because... 1. It was less than $2 for the Kindle edition 2. The cover just looks cheap, the way you could tell when a movie was "direct-to-dvd" or a SYFY original. 3. Author's name being initials... I don't have great luck with those.
I saw the decent rating on GR but despite me using Goodreads, I don't trust GR ratings, at all and the book blurb sounded interesting but it was really that dollar bin pricing that made me take a chance.
I thought for several chapters that this might be a 4/5 star read for me. A murder mystery with a tinge of supernatural is right up my alley, but overall the supernatural touch was light and didn't add much to the story. I thought the ghosts of the past would play a larger part of the plot but that was not the case and I definitely wanted more of the spooky. If the little bit of otherworldly had been cut, you would still have the exact same story, minus the last two pages, and that was disappointing.
The writing wasn't horrible, the pacing was decent and the plot was good enough. Not the most original tale but interesting take on theme.
Stella wasn't my favorite heroine but better than a lot I have encountered here lately. I could have done less with the romance and more with the murder mystery. Plus, I would have liked a better handling of the situation from Stella. Her ending actions annoyed me.
I wouldn't be opposed to reading another novel from the writer but not with a $5 price tag.
What I liked about this book was that it was a short, quick read overall and it had short chapters. The way it was written was nice though, very imaginative and descriptive. What I didn't care for were the occasional typos (we all have them but c'mon). The beginning took me a bit to push through as it was slow and at one point I did want to give up. It was predictable pretty much half way through and it does have a trigger for physical abuse and a smidge of gore (though that isn't as triggering) and toxic relationships. There were chunks where nothing made sense so I'd have to re-read that bit multiple times to make it make sense. Definitely not the worst book I've ever read but I wouldn't read it again.
One star is very generous. My favorite part was returning it to the kindle unlimited library. It was obvious the killer from the moment his name was mentioned. The secret involving him was expected. I ended up skipping through a couple chapters towards the end because of the redundancy of the climax. If you want a good thriller or psychological twists and turns, put this back on the shelf and walk away. I’m not familiar with the author and I hope this was just a fluke of writing. The high accolades and reviews misled me and let me severely disappointed.

This book has a good hook and moved at a fast pace. The supernatural aspects don’t add anything to the story and should be omitted. Apparently the dead have no wisdom to share. Spoiler alert - the ending doesn’t really make sense. The heroine had no reason to hide the justifiable death of the villain. The secret will eat at her and torment her, and it’s just unnecessary.
Great plot. Good characters. Why ruin it with the paranormal bs? If not for the dead starting to speak too many chapters in to turn back i would have never finished it. When whole chapters are dedicated to read people's feelings and thoughts the book should be listed under paranormal......Not mystery thriller. We are mostly not the same group of readers.
I'm not even sure what to say. I quickly became wrapped up in this book and felt like I couldn't put it down. It was great but somehow I wanted more. I don't understand why Stella ended things the way she did, she had nothing to hide. Maybe there will be a follow up. I wish there had been more from her mother afterwards as well. Overall though, it was well written and a good story.
The story captured my attention by the main character coming home and soon finding a body. The chapters talking about the investigation and how life is going is slow but interesting. Once she's kidnapped the story picked back up to capture my attention until the end. I liked the story and the mysteries to solve.
This was very good. I do feel that in the clarity of it all there could have been more understanding about the connection, but I won't elaborate more. Overall, this story was written very well and I enjoyed all the thrills and psychological chills. And in the end I did understand that was incorporated about the title of the book in the storyline.
Great book! The plot hums along and the characters are exceptionally well developed. You so want to like everyone but you know a killer hides among them. The ending is tight and unexpected, I will enjoy reading more by this very creative author.
This book was okay. It wasn't really a mystery, as it was obvious early on who the bad guy was. I found the book initially slow, it did pick up, but the ending left a few questions that I believe should have been addressed.
Oh my goodness. What a great read. The imagination, poor Stella. Thinking her mother left when she was murdered by an old friend. Psychopath. I would like to know what Jack did to be in prison.
Even though I guessed who the bad guy is about half way through Cemetery View, there are several surprises woven into the story. I would have liked more information about Jack but most of the characters were well rounded.
This is a psychological thriller. I felt it displayed more grief than horror. It could have ended in many different ways, and I agree with the way it was handled. This story is a grade-B movie, but it will satisfy.
Good story, but slow to start. It took a while to get going. Some chapters could have been extended to say more than end where they did, but I liked the plot, something different to what is my usual read
This is a scary disturbing story. The mysteries begin showing up right out of the gate and just keep multiplying. The characters are everyday people just like the ones next door. They are so believable. Excellent job.
If you don’t like slow starts, this probably isn’t for you. While the main plot revelation comes early, it’s a while after before anything shocking or twisty happens. The twists did not disappoint though. Looking forward to reading more from the author.
Wow that was a roller coaster of a ride from start to finish. I often caught myself gasping and not breathing, waiting to find out what happens next. Pretty obvious who it is from the beginning but you don't realize how bad it is until the end. Worth the read.
This was a well told story, and a bit difficult to get through. I'm a domestic violence survivor. My ex-husband almost unalived me in 2013. If you find yourself in an abusive relationship, please reach out for help.
This was a very interesting book. Toes in the middle part of I kept you on your toes in the middle part of the book And then Toward the end You get kind of Eerie. But in the end he got what he deserved.
At first I was super into this book and then somewhere along the time I got bored or something idk. It took me awhile to finally finish the book and I just wasn’t a fan of the ending.
