Devised to defend humanity from alien threat, Unidom’s absolute control reaches every settlement and space station. Mirov, an assassin built to impose Unidom’s willingness to kill until their side wins, is betrayed when Unidom takes away something more important than life itself. Hell hath no fury like Mirov scorned. In retribution for the chaos and quick deaths heaped upon their heads, Unidom exiles Mirov to another world and is forced to leave everything on Earth behind.
Disgusted with Unidom’s increasing and unfair control over the normal citizens, colony rebels challenge the government behemoth at every turn. However, the inevitable war with the aliens threatens everyone. Soon, Mirov is caught between the crossfire of all three forces. When each side tries to gain control over what Mirov cherishes so dearly, a fierce battle is set into motion and endangers everyone and everything in its path.
In this violent, brutal world, who will go the farthest to get what they want? ”Put the spirit of your favorite pop culture franchises into a blender (Robocop, Die Hard, Aliens, The Hunger Games, Captain America, Impossible), drop in a ton of adrenaline, set them in the near, yet alternate, future and you will start to get an idea of what you can expect in the rousing, thrill-ride, white knuckle action epic, MIROV.” ~ Celeste Prater Author of the Award-Winning VISITING DARKNESS
David C. Hoke has been creating since as far back as he can remember. When he was young, he sketched battles from Star Wars or World War II films. He used toys to act out his scenarios. As he grew, sketches became drawings. Then drawings became comics. At around 11, he ventured into teaching himself how to write screenplays. He bought the book Syd Field’s Screenplay and proceeded to write his own movie ideas.
But screenwriting for his own enjoyment just didn’t feel like it was enough. So, with no safety net, at the age of 33, he quit his day job to pursue a career as a filmmaker. Within 2 years, he had written and helped produce, direct, and edit a local TV project with 13 episodes. By year 3, he and his partners had a movie in regional theaters and eventually on Amazon Prime.
After 10 years in the indie film scene, he decided the stories in his head far exceeded the budgets he could secure for a movie. So rather than let those stories go untold, he decided it was time to learn how to write novels.
A man of many hats, he has been an entrepreneur since 2009 with a successful marketing agency. The only thing more important to him than his creative endeavors is his family. He shares two kids with his first wife and another with the love of his life, Trish. There are also two young granddaughters who have claimed a big piece of his heart.
As long as there’s breath in his lungs and blood in his veins, David will be telling stories. That has been the single biggest constant in his life. As the creative world expands and adapts with technology and progress, he will always be looking for the best medium to share his vision with others.
Anastasia Mirov is a special agent for the Department of Intelligence (DOI) in “Mirov” by David C. Hoke. She is noted for her physical ability to take super hard hits and to heal unnaturally quickly. She is also known for being tenacious. This got her in trouble when the Unidom government took something precious from her. The governor of Unidom controls the Earth, settlements like those on Mars, and Space Stations. While the purpose of Unidom is to defend against possible alien invasions, there are citizens who unite against them because they feel they have gone too far with their control. These rebels created the Mars Liberation Army (MLA) and have infiltrated the DOI with terrorists.
Mirov’s retaliation, which was justified, has gotten her exiled to Mars. Shortly after arriving, she discovers that she is still being manipulated by Unidom. She soon learns that the rebel organization MLA, and aliens known as The Ruparians also seek what was taken from her. She must decide with whom to align herself. There is espionage involving alien genetics, advanced technology, and NAI (Natural Artificial Intelligence). When she realizes how deadly the stakes are, she makes her decision and resumes her role as an unstoppable force.
“Mirov” immediately captured my interest and had me feeling like I was hanging on for dear life as I followed this turbocharged adventure. I often caught myself holding my breath as I waited to see what would happen next. The protagonist Anastasia Mirov is my kind of superheroine! As a reader with a background in martial arts and weapons training, I absolutely loved that she had no issues with doing what needed to be done to her enemies. While this resulted in some gruesome scenes, I still found myself oddly satisfied that her enemies got exactly what they deserved.
The addition of an AI sidekick, that she names Ethel and gives a southern accent, adds to the adventure. Despite being a killing machine, Ethel also has many endearing traits. Mirov does as well. She does what she does because she truly believes that she is doing what is right. All the characters are well-crafted and complex. As Hoke reveals what drives them, it becomes easier to decide if they are redeemable. While some are, most are not. The supporting cast, whether they be allies or enemies, adds to the intrigue and unpredictability of the plot. The scenes are described in vivid detail and the advanced technology is so well described; it seems believable for our future. Hoke has an amazing talent for using his words to bring the scenes to life. Readers will easily be able to visualize his scenes.
In conclusion, “Mirov” by David C. Hoke is a must-read for science fiction fans who enjoy a complex plot with emotional attributes, multidimensional characters, intrigue, and suspense. Readers must also be able to cope with some violent, bloody scenes, especially when they are justified. I truly hope Hoke has more plans for Ana Mirov! I look forward to reading more books by this talented author.
If a blend of Star Wars, Mission: Impossible, Die Hard, and Aliens sounds like your thing, this book is for you! In this debut novel written by my friend David C. Hoke, the action never stops. I am not typically into reading this genre, so I have nothing to compare it to. The pace is fast; the action and fighting and energy is non-stop. Blood and crazy weapons… but some tender relationships, too. Proud to recommend this sci-fi page-turner written by my friend!
Mirov had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!
This book is action packed with an easy to follow story line. I loved the backstory and character developments along the way. It was heartfelt and also like watching a movie in my head. The Star Wars themes are definitely there. Mirov is the most badass female main character I’ve ever read. Great job Chris!

Other than me being a little computer dense trying to comprehend some of the ‘technical’ computer references, it’s a great read. TOTALLY action packed.
Mirov is a deadly government assassin created to enforce the iron-fisted rule of Unidom, but when they betray him by taking away what he values most, all hell breaks loose.
David C. Hoke throws you into a brutal future where everyone wants to control what Mirov holds dear, setting up an explosive three-way battle that could destroy everything.
What makes this sci-fi thriller really work is how it explores the gray areas between loyalty, revenge, and survival when there are no clear heroes or villains.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced sci-fi action story that doesn’t hold back on the brutality and keeps you guessing about who to root for, Mirov delivers exactly what you need.
Not for the faint at heart. Mirov is paced with action explicit detail of war situations as well as everyday drama. It holds interest I actually stayed up late to finish. David C. Hook created world with attitudes reflective of today and where they could go. Real life language as well as descriptions of violent situations. Well woven story telling with a message of what could so easily be.
