I enjoyed reading about Marco Polo's travels. While some in my book club found it a little slow, or boring, I was quite interested. My dad had wanted to read the book and somehow I procured a copy for him, which I now have, but hadn't read. It was nice to read the same book that I had given him.

Someone in our book club (Joy) pointed out that many great books are written while their author's are in prison, and that is where Rustichello da Pisa, wrote down Polo's adventure, when they were both imprisoned during a war between Venice and the Republic of Genoa. Polo, a Venetian (Italy did not exist as "Italy" at that time) was born in 1254 and was considered one of the greatest explorers of his time.

I found it fascinating to read about the many different groups of people he encountered and about their customs and commerce. I liked that the chapters were short and concise. His book is a wonderful travelogue through Asia of the late 13th century.
