While I checked this out of our library, it is well worth adding to my collection! It's thorough and comprehensive, a terrific reference if you're interested in calligraphy, hand lettering or typography.
Before the pandemic, I decided that I would like to learn calligraphy. Little did I know that I would have MONTHS off from work to learn it. I went through this book, thinking about the concept, but then didn't put in the work. I decided I didn't really want to buy the supplies -- all those nibby stuffs and things. I decided to work on lettering instead. All that is needed is pencils and markers. But, some day, I may return to this calligraphy art-y concept. It has always held a fascination. When, (or if) I do, my go-to will be this book. It teaches you everything!
I only gave this book three stars because it did not exactly align with my interests, except for the history sections (which I felt could have been beefed up a little bit). However, for anyone who is interested in really learning to replicate historical hands and fonts, this book is a great guide.
Summer is upon us and I am searching for new things to work with the kids, in the new school year. I remember loving calligraphy as a pre-teen/teen. Very good details.
