This is a neat book with a few particularly interesting projects, which I copied down before returning the book to the library. Powers' eye for botanicals is modern, definitely emerging from a time and a place in interior design, so I don't really know how timeless this book will be. However, some of the projects (tillandsia garland, mounted fungi specimen display) are so unusual and creative that this book is worth a look.
I pretty much read through this is less than an hour, then flipped through it again just now. Some ideas were good, some made me laugh, and most required, you know, work. It was nice to get an overview of which plants are low maintenance or not. Most projects in this book were not. If I had my own home I might try to incorporate some though. the book is more of a reference and step-to-step instruction guide than a read-through.
If you're capable of creating the skillfully crafted items featured in Bring the Outdoors In, you won't need this book. If you need help making a stack of leaves or blossoms look like a museum-quality work of temporary botanical art, this book won't get you there.
Fun ideas for a cottage, cabin, rural homes. I might revisit as my next home will be next to a nature park with more opportunity to gather floral decor items.
A popular hit at the CGTA – a lovely book for spring. A terrific design book, that appeals to many different stores. Garden inspired decorating ideas for your home. Beautiful on the outside and in.
Shane Powers has prepared an interesting array of modern and unique horticultural decor projects. Not sure if they'll suit my decorating style, but I certainly enjoyed paging through the book!
