Wolf Bane

Rate this book
Being a wolf shifter who can’t shift sucks. If only I could find a way to break this curse.

I should be the one taking control of our pack from my father, not my obnoxious brother. Every time I do something heroic, he gets the credit. Instead, I’m forced to train every day, harder than any of the wolves in our pack or association.

When wolves start disappearing, my brother is sent to investigate. As if this mystery wasn’t enough to deal with, my brother goes missing. I need to find out why but can’t do it alone.

My best friend and his human acquaintance join my search, along with two rival alphas. Things get even more complicated when all four men profess their love for me. How can I prove myself when these four men want to protect and care for me?

I should be scared of the big, bad alpha wolves, but instead I’m drawn to them. And as for the human, my family would disown me if they found out I wanted him too. Yet part of me craves giving up my quest in favor of falling into their bed. But I’m no damsel in distress. I’ll fight to save everyone, or die trying.

My investigation leads me to a coven of witches deep in the woods. Secrets come to light, and I have to decide if I can be what everyone wants, or if I should run away. One wrong choice, and my pack will be doomed.

You can’t really read this one without reading the novella. The novella is crossover from a previous series of 3 books all of those books are not available on KU. So in order to really understand all the backstory you’ll need to read or at least skim 4 other books.

The couple of chapters I read before I figured out how much backstory I was missing was super basic. Very short simple sentences, characters repeated what other characters said when POV switched, very juvenile characters (lots of blushing and he/she can’t like me….). So with the basic writing and the other books I am going to DNF this one.

Garnet was under the impression that she was a wolf shifter who was cursed and couldn't shift, however she is blessed with 4 mates... Ryland, Orym, Luca, and James. Soon she discovers she is not a wolf shifter but a witch and a powerful one! Evil lurks in the form of her aunt and wolf shifters and vampires are going missing. When one of her mates gets kidnapped she will stop at nothing to get him back.... I can't wait for book 2 to see what happens next!!! Great job MP!! Love this book!

Garnet, or Red as she is known, has always felt different. Partially because she is a wolf shifter who still cannot shift. Also because of the strange magical dreams she keeps having. Her father the Alpha shows little love to her, but at least she has her best friend Luca.

However fate has much more in store for Garnet than she could ever image. When a chance collision with the over confident Ryland sparks something more than annoyance, Garnet finds herself thrown into the mysteries of disappearing supernaturals, lost family members, truth about her mother and 4 very very delicious future mates. Will she be able to find out the trust of herself and live happily ever after with her pack or will those that seek to use her for power be victorious?

M.P. Starkweather tells a amazing tale of being different, finding your own family and owning your power. LOVED this story beyond belief. It lived rent free in my brain for the week after I finished it and can not wait for the next book. James, Luca, Ryland and Orym are amazing guys and each of their own personalities shine through in their POV's. Garnet is a strong, fiery and fierce FMC that can totally take on anything and is so easy to imagine as your own best friend. This book dives straight in with the action and spice and keeps running.

Brought up thinking she was nothing, not like the rest of the pack, her father the Alpha has no time for her, she knows what her place is. Straight up you get a sense that Garnet is more than what she is, more than what she is lead to believe but the problem is how can she be more. Then we have these dreams, they seem so real, but how can they be what are they telling her. Garnet is pushed aside by her brother and the Alpha but at least she has her best friend Luca – that is when she can see him. He is her everything, for her more than friend but he doesn’t she her that way right.
This is a story about finding out truths, finding oneself, and learning to develop and grow with what becomes Garnet’s new family. Fate has a way of stepping in and putting you on the right path and four Garnet this is having four mates, who in themselves are all so different but bring a different level and being that is needed for Garnet. Garnet is a strong independent woman who has always had a strength behind and this shines through as our story progresses. Each mate/ future mate brings a different element to the story and we see the growth in each man as well as each learn to work together.
This book develops at a great pace and has the right amount of action and spice throughout. You are instantly drawn to Garnet and just love the men who are at her side. Can’t wait for book 2

This was a great wolf shifter, witch and vampire read! Can’t wait to read book two when it comes out. This has a little bit of spice to it. Very detailed and action packed book. I definitely recommend reading it.
Garnet (Red) finds out she has four (yes, four!) fated mates. Her first, Ryland, claims her and marks her. James, the second, opens the mated bond next. Orym becomes the third to be claimed. Luca will be the last to be mated and create the bond. By bonding with her mates, something in her awakens. She can communicate via telepathically with her bonded mates which helps in her mission ahead. She’s always thought she was a wolf, but never been able to shift. As she is on a mission to find her brother and the captured wolves and vamps, she learns that she is something more. Learning of this, she trains with Amber who seems to be a friend. They all soon find out that Amber is Red’s aunt who is planning to take Red’s powers from her once she gets stronger. Red overpowers her and they escape to go back home, but in the process Luca gets captured by the witches who are associated with Amber.

I struggled with this book at first. I haven't read the Vampires at Midnight series and though it's not necessary I think I would have been a little less lost if I did. Once I read it I may revisit Wolf Bane and see how I fare.

Outside of feeling like I'm missing something, the storyline was strong. It had an interesting plot with some twists and turns. It ends on a cliffhanger that definitely left me wanting to know what happens next.

The POV changes often which gives it an overall clipped feeling. Like some parts have been cut short, but it also helps provide more insight to what is going on from more than one perspective.

I found the FMC a little annoying at times, but her men really did round her out. I'm interested to see her character develop and see how everything effects her.

The last 25% was really good and really hooked me in and got me truly invested in the story whereas up until then I was a little on the fence.

All in all, good read, and I'm excited to see what comes next.

Wolf Bane is the first book in the Hunters Of The Forest series by M.P. Starkweather.

💜 sassy FMC
💜 why choose
💜 wolf shifters, witches, vampires, oh my!
💜 mysteries
💜 🌶🌶🌶 spice

Garnet had another one of those weird dreams. But, she has no time to think about it because she’s late getting up to start her chores that her father has punished her with. She can’t even see her best friend, Luca. But what happens when wolves start disappearing and parts of the forest start to get weird vibes? What about when Ryland, a handsome wolf shifter, comes to rescue her when she gets spooked? She can’t like him and her best friend, right? You can only have one fated mate, right?

This was a fun start to this new series. There are so many moving pieces and mysteries that occur that it keeps you on your toes. Add in witches, wolf shifters, vampires, and humans and you have a perfect mix set up for some perfect chaos. This book does end on a cliffy. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

“She slept with wolves without fear. For the wolves knew a lion was among them.” If that isn’t the understatement to the whole plot of this story.
Garnet, also known as Red. I love that name for any Hard A-$$ FMC. Despite her setback about not being able to shift, Red still doesn’t live in the shadow of her brother. She’s committed to proving herself to being the stronger alpha who deserves the role. When the “true alpha” ends up disappearing, the Queen herself takes it apron herself to prove she is even more of a better leader, Red sets off to find all the missing wolves. With the help of her four fated-mates.
Have no fear, the RH is here! Red’s Gran let her in on a little secret before she gets going on her rescue mission that she has more than one mate. The rest of said mates join in one the voyage causing a lot of tension between duty and desire. Until they’re met with the coven of witches. Which is a part I’ll leave for the story to tells itself!

fresh storyline! great read

Love the direction this author is going with this! It drew me in quickly and got straight into the plot, but is a “slow burn” (if that makes sense lol). She takes her time to introduce the characters and slowly what’s going to happen.
Love the characters! “Red” is a strong fmc who also has a softer side and compassion/empathy as well! Love that about her bc a lot of modern day fmc are portrayed as being less attuned to their emotions. Her guys are all so different and they read different! They each have their own personalities and you can actually tell who they are while reading without having to check. A lot of books I have read from multiple pov all sound the same and it’s hard to differentiate.
Also love that this is from multiple POV and each part is told from multiple views.
All in all a great start to a series!

First book in the Hunters of the Forest series, and M.P. Starkweather once again created an interesting and intriguing story with a strong FMC, Garnet, and her path to self-discovery. Surrounded by her four mates, belittled by her father, the Wolf Alpha of their pack, and unable to shift, she succeeded where others failed before, discovering the hard truth behind the disappearance of wolves and vampires.

When Luca, one of her mates, goes missing, she will have to face painful, hidden truths and find the best way to save them all.
Between action-packed scenes, smut, and a rollercoaster of emotions, I cannot wait for the next book in the series to discover how Garnet and her men will solve the problems at hand.

Garnet, aka Red, was brought up thinking she wasn't like the rest of her pack. Her father, who is the Alpha has nothing to do with her.

Right from the start, you get a sense that Garnet is more than she is lead to believe, but the problem is how can she.

This is a story about finding oneself, finding out Truths, and finding your own family. With Garnet, Fate had a way of stepping in and putting her on the path to not one but four mates, who are all so different, but all have exactly what Garnet needs.

This book literally hooks in from the start. You are immediately drawn to Garnet & and her mates. A quick read with just the right amount of action & spice, with great character development.

Want to read a paranormal romance with 4 hot guys and Garnet, our FMC who can’t shift? I did, and thoroughly enjoyed Garnet’s journey. Garnet tells us that she’s supposed to be a shifter but can’t shift. She doesn't know the real reason behind her inability to shift, but has some ideas as to why not. I enjoyed reading about her journey and meeting the different characters in Wolf Bane. Secrets certainly abound in this story and while we do discover some of them, alas not all are revealed because another book is coming. Boy am I glad there’s a 2nd book! This story is a wonderful rollercoaster of emotions that get played out between its pages.

A wild ride, couldn't stop reading, 400 plus pages of Wolves, Witches, and Vampires... oh my... Humans are thrown into the mix, deception is the game, revenge the party favor.

Red, sweet Garnet, just wants to belong. She's a wolf that can't shift, or is she? To find out, you will need to read, but nothing is as it seems sometimes. Mates come in many sizes and shapes, one or more, the heart knows what it can handle.

Book 1 does end without our HEA, or really a HFN, so book 2 can't come soon enough for me. I loved watching the evolution of the characters. As people, as lovers, as mates, as friends, we get to see how anything is possible if you just believe and take that leap.

This is by far my favorite book so far by this author. It is the start of a new series and I am always excited meeting new characters. I enjoy the fact this author has a way of weaving her books into a complex world. No need to read previous books but it is so much more enjoyable if you have. This way you get to know the character Garnet before reading this one. We have met her in Blood Wolf. Now I can't imagine what it's like. Being a shifter that can't shift but this is the problem Garnet faces. Now with her mates she is on a road of finding out the why but the road is bumpy and there's lots of twists and turns. Very well written and a must read!

If you like PNR, RUN and grab yourself a copy. Now!!!!

I loved every part of the story. I cannot wait to read book two because this cliffhanger is getting to me. I loved every character. I loved how the men are willing to work together despise their differences with each other. I also loved how M.P. Starkweather incorporated human fated bonds into this. It was a really look belly to have a little bit of everything included.

Spice is a 2/5 for me but it did not affect the story at all. I think it all went together perfectly.

Wolf bane

Reverse harem, paranormal with magic, shifters and vampires, found family, fated mates with drama but no bullying. There is an evil relative who provides the mystery in this series. The storyline is fine but the characters are emotionally juvenile. I was shocked that the fmc is thirty years old, as I assumed 19 at most. The evil villain reminds me of the guy twirling his mustache on the railroad track. Overly dramatic. Book three is due out next month, and I may or may not read it.

Finding who Garnett truly is

I enjoyed reading Garnett's journey into her self discovery. It may not have been the way her Granny would have liked her to learn about herself, but at least she had her mates with her through most of it.
The mystery of who took the wolves wasn't clear at first. Once you know what is going on and Luca, one of her mates is taken. Now we're left with wondering what powers Red has and will it be enough to get het mate back.

Wolf bane (Hunters of the Forest Book1) By M.P. Starkweather is a paranormal reverse harem novel. I always enjoy reading a good shifter book and M.P Starkweather definitely did a great job with this one. It is exciting and full of action. It also has the usual romance but this time throws in the reverse harem approach. The female lead has the support of her men as she finds out who she is and who the true villain of the story is. I can not wait to dive into book 2 to find out more!

Loved it!!

Join Garnet (the MFC) and her found mates on their journey to find out more about missing wolves and vamps. Along the way they complete their bonds and go through training together after finding out she’s not a wolf at all.
What happens though when one of her bonds is taken?
I loved this story and can’t wait to find out what comes next for them. Garnet is a strong willed female and ready to fight for those she loves.

I absolutely loved this book. I could not put it down. Garnet was raised as part of the wolfs and thought she might be cursed because she couldn't shift. Her life takes a turn when she discovers she as more than 1 mate and her "brother" goes missing. One of he mates is tasked with finding him, and they go on the hunt to find him and find out who is kidnapping vampires and werewolves.

Def a self discovery journey

The beginning was very instant, but that's to be expected when fated mates are involved. The characters were developed over time, but I love Luca, the childhood best friend 🧡 he's adorable. A few twists and turns keep the plot interesting and definitely wanting to know what comes next.

I love a story about a MFC coming into their own and discovering they're more than they've been made to believe. That's what this one is. Garnet is pushed aside, made to feel like she's useless. Until things take a twist and she discovers the truth. This story has a nice mystery, an evil villain, and a few twists. I'm anxious to discover how Garnet and her men are going to save the day.
