"The 60s were murder!"One of the Top 100 novels in The Launch Pads Prose Competition. “TUNE IN, TURN ON, DROP OUT... MAKE MONEY”
Story “Detroit, 1969. Money, power, and party drugs are now fueling the sexual and political revolutions sweeping the country, and everyone wants their share. So when the beautiful daughter of Detroit’s richest man is found dead at a remote city park — and the police realize she’d overdosed on a psychedelic drug — he’ll stop at nothing to ferret out the person responsible. As his hunt escalates, the girl’s innocent boyfriend soon finds himself the victim of a relentless cat-and-mouse chase with a detective who’s out to make his name on the case. Once their paths intersect, their lives are forever changed as they navigate through the city’s dark underbelly of excessive wealth and bulletproof egos.”
Overview: Set in the late 60s against the backdrop of the Motor City’s booming rock and roll scene, “Wasted” lays the foundation of The Hipster Trilogy. A world where anything goes, and everyone has a price.
Reviews: “In hindsight, I don’t know whether to thank God for all the sex, drugs, and Rock & Roll back in the 60s, or condemn him for it… but one thing’s for sure, “WASTED” and the Hipsters’ Trilogy is one hell of a ride.” Richard Lowry, Emmy-winning writer, producer, and baby boomer.
Other books by Steven A. Finly include the dark comedy "SINdication" (also available on Amazon), along with Book Two of the Hipsters Trilogy, "HIGH LIFE" (coming soon to Amazon), and Book Three of the Hipsters Trilogy, "THE COCAINE DIET"
Being a baby boomer, this book took me back to my teens in the late 1960s. Great characters from all walks of life that lend authenticity to the murder-mystery that propels the story into a real page turner. Definitely recommend
This book was a mind-blower, as it details the influx of psychedelic drugs into our society in the mid to late 60s... and the effects it had all everyone -- whether they took it or not. Set around the tragic homicide of a young auto heiress, the story never slows down as both the police and the young woman's boyfriend, and father, become involved in the investigation in way or another. As part of a trilogy, Wasted is an insightful, nicely detailed, fly-on-the-wall view of what living in the 60s and 70s was like for your average young adult. Recommend.
I've been a fan of the author since reading two of his older books (Blind Trust, and Off Season) and was excited to see he's started writing again. "Wasted," was a great start to the trilogy, its characters rich and full of human foibles that help create and extend the plot, not right along on it. Going to finished the trilogy soon, and will post again.
Wow! This book is a page turner you don't want to put down. Steve Finly captures the 60's perfectly in this exhilarating thriller. The best part...it's a trilogy. I'm ordering the next 2 books. You won't be disappointed.
I'm a baby boomer (70s) and this was a great mystery and thriller that took me back to my teenage days. A page-turner from beginning to end that made me order the other books in the trilogy. Excellent detail and characters that truly led the story. Recommend.,
"A must read, because history always repeats itself." Russ Gibb.
This caption was given to the novel's author by fellow Detroiter, and Grande Ballroom owner, Russ Gibb, shortly before his passing...because without his encouragement, and blessing, the book might never have been written. Welcome to a world of newfound vices centered around Detroit's emerging rock and roll heyday in the late 1960s. RIP Uncle Russ.
“Author Steven Finly takes us on a magic carpet ride into the psychedelic 60s and 70s when world views and ideals were shifting and culture clashes were disrupting our realities. The characters in ‘Wasted,’ though definitely rich in those bygone times, reflect the challenges we all face even in today’s fractured world – especially when one of their in-crowd is murdered. Remember, reminisce, reflect, be glad you weren’t there or wish you were there… this story offers something for everyone of every age and inclination. Plus, amidst the trials and tragedies, it’s also colorful and fun.” Pamela Jaye Smith
