A wild and offbeat comedy about social outcasts who are obsessed with fandom, Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends is like Genshiken, the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Toradora all wrapped into one.
Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends began as a light novel series in Japan, and has been adapted into two hit manga series, an anime series streamed online by FUNimation, and a video game for the Sony PSP. Funination is also streaming the second season of the anime starting January 22, 2013.
This is the second volume of an ongoing manga series that is sure to appeal to today’s manga fans in the same way The Big Bang Theory appeals to geeks.
New characters are introduced (though well, not new for me), I laughed hard at the Hentai Game re-enactment that Sena had to do as she was so going on and on about how pure it was. :P Though I have to say that Yozora is a bitch at times. She is so rude and harsh towards Sena. :| I know I had the same frustration in the anime. I just wanted to smack Yozora at times. Art was great, just a shame of some of the expressions.
I think this was so much better than the first book, loved it!!!! Finally got to see depth and history of the characters and the topic itself. The humor got better, and what I really liked is seeing the true sides of the girls rather than that annoying vibe they gave me before, I started to like them now <3 Definitely more curious to read the rest of the series.
Is it possible to say that Haganai got even funnier with the second volume? Cuz’ I mean, the first was freaking hilarious, but I was laughing pretty hard at this volume too. Reading the manga adaptation really makes me want to start watching the anime and read the novels — If they’re (the novels) translated to English, that is.
This was a Sena-heavy volume, but I don’t think too many people mind that… err, well, I didn’t. She is so freaking hilarious, guys. We meet Kodaka’s little sister, who has become quite eccentric ever since she came across a little thing called Iron Necromancer (brownie point for whoever gets the Fullmetal Alchemist reference) and she is under the impression that she is a sort of ancient being/vampire/magician it wasn’t made really clear, but it’s extremely similar to Chunibyo, Love, & Other Delusions’ Rikka’s chunibyo complex… Which I love with a great passion, so Kodaka’s little sister, Kobato, is already on my “Most Kawaii Imouto List.”
I’m starting to like Kodaka more with this second volume, he doesn’t have quite as much of a transparent/self-insert-y type of personality, but he still has those qualities. Is it too much to ask for a Harem lead with an actual very distinct personality? I know you’re trying to make him as likable an as self-insert-y as possible, but look at Clannad’s Tomoya Okazaki, in my opinion, he had a distinct personality. Since this is only the 2nd volume, I will give some leeway, so I better see some more character development and imouto!
I will give a summary of the first two chapters:
Chapter 6: We meet Kobato, Kodaka’s little sister. He is given the task of dinner *gasp*. We learn a little bit as to why they’re there without parental guidance. Imouto’s bath was cold, so she leaves it up to Onii-chan to attempt to fix the problem whilst she runs around naked claiming that ancient beings cannot get colds.
Chapter 7: Sena is gaming away, she has her headphones on so she doesn’t realize Kodaka and Yozora entering the club room. Yozora decides to unplug the audio cord for Sena’s headphones, and what plays on her speakers is something I’m not repeating. Totally not something to play at school, in public, or ever… really. Sena is then forced to recite the verses from her game to prove just how it’s a work of art, which is what she claims.
Story: 3/5 - I can see some character development is in the works, so I’ll be patient. This story is mainly based on humor, so don’t expect much more than just that for a while. Art: 3.5/5 - Pretty nice to look, all of our characters look pretty attractive, except when they’re making those insane expressions. Characters: 3/5 - Still awaiting for character development, but hopefully we’ll get that soon. These are pretty entertaining characters, I’m not sure if they’re meant to be much more than entertainment though.
Thank you for reading, I hope it helps! I give my honest opinion as detailed as I wish and hope to influence your chances of purchasing the subject under review, whether it is positive or negative.
I think this volume was a bit better than the first one. I really like the male characters, but I just hope that the girls wouldn't fight so much or that they would change how they fight. I usually just get bored every time they start fighting with each other because it's always the same.
This manga was awesome Kodaka is just a boss lol and u get to meet his siter and she's so cute lol and in this Kodaka and Sena go on a date ?? haha u will have to see lol overall this volume was great cnt wait to put pickup volume 3 :D
It's definitely inappropriate, but has funny humor to it. Kind of like the first book except filled with more "Oh, you wanted to read this? Ha! The first book was only the icing of dirty ideas!"
