Practical furniture making with great instructions for the novice. Doesn't require a shop full of tools either. Most of the furniture is useful as is or as construction samples. If you want to start building furniture, buy this book, it's old, it's cheap!!!

About half the book is instructions and joinery, planing, cutting and other skills, the other half is furniture projects. Paired up with his Hand Tools: Their Ways and Workings it makes a great set. His Country Furniture is a nice supplement to these, but not required.

Extremely well illustrated, Watson is a true artist.

None of the plans are worth much, but the book contains a nice exposition on how to go about building things by hand. Plus, the sketches are quite good.
