Aimed at students wishing to improve their writing skills, this guide deals with the key basics of grammar, punctuation and spelling while also showing students how to construct a sentence, how to build a paragraph and how to structure an essay. This third edition includes an expanded 'Spot the Mistake' section.
This was recommended by my university and I can see why. I enjoyed this book. I liked the easy-going informal style. There is plenty of information in the book many a student, if not all, would find useful in some way. I am always seeking ways to improve my writing. I will definitely use some of their strategies and revisit the book. I think it's important to seek ways to improve our writing no matter how well we are or think we are doing.
I attached quite a lot of lil sticky notes in to this book, so it definitely has useful information inside. It is easy to read, and the authors try to make the subject as light-hearted as possible. Personally, I don't think the last chapter is necessary, but overall this does what it says on the tin, and I'm sure I will keep it nearby during the coming year at university.
Only contains three pieces of valuable advice, everything else is garbage and a waste of time. Do not recommend. Despite what the reviews say, do not buy this book. I repeat do not buy this book. Your wallet will thank you.
An instructive book. The authors go into great detail to get over the style of writing through their own writing - a dry terse, style... Aimed more at students than writers of fiction.
