Go With the Flo

Rate this book
Nineties girl Florence Spring joined Avon to find her Edward Scissorhands but instead needs to rescue his porno alter ego.

When Florence notices her eccentric ex-boyfriend, Eddie, isn't putting on his usual show in the front window on Friday night she decides to investigate. She asks her best friend, Nelson Tyler, to help but he seems more interested in seducing Florence than in finding her personal flasher.

Florence has no idea when she embarks on the adventure she will accidentally shoot an undercover policeman, or that her actions will lead to Nelson's kidnapping.

Now with two men missing she has no choice but to continue and thwart the plans of a psychotic soon to be divorcee. She needs to rescue Nelson because life without him is unbearable, especially since she's discovered his long sensitive fingers are far more erotic than scissorhands.

Born and bred in the UK, my whole life was turned on its head when, at the tender age of eighteen, I met and fell instantly in love with my darling husband. I knew the minute I met him I was going to marry him and, fortunately, he came to the same conclusion less than six months later. My husband has shown me the world, starting by bringing me to Australia. The country we now call home, and where we have raised our two boys. It didn’t take me long to turn native, becoming a citizen and dropping the British accent. However, our wanderlust didn’t stop there. We have moved from state to state always ready for a new adventure. We have also holidayed in many destinations around the world. No matter where in the world I am I always keep my quirky British sense of humor. Well, you can’t give up all of your heritage now can you?

I was thrilled when I learned that Lillian Grant had a new book out. Her trademark erotic humour is one of the high spots in my reading pile. It’s hard enough finding good erotic romance, finding one with a healthy dose of humour woven through it is priceless.

She’s deviating slightly with Go With the Flo, winding back the clock to the 90’s with a gentle and funny romantic suspense. Remember the 90’s? Avon door-to-door. No mobile phones. Edward Scissorhands.

Florence Spring is a bit of a klutz. Always tripping over or having little accidents, she is a young Miss Marple with plenty of enthusiasm, but rarely any hard evidence. When her close neighbour, Eddie-the-Flasher goes missing, she determines to find out why, dragging her best friend Nelson along for the ride.

Her father detests leather jacketed biker Nelson, but I found him utterly delicious J Thankfully, so did Flo:

When he fluttered his eyelids and came in for kiss number two, Florence’s defences had already been torn down and the welcome mat and bunting were in place.

They’ve been platonic best friends for years, until one brief Christmas kiss and now Flo finds that Nelson is more intent on seducing her than finding Eddie:

Of the two of them, he was the one who usually played it safe where their friendship was concerned. She, on the other hand, was ready to leap into the unknown at the drop of a hat and hoped to God he saved her. She had a feeling the unknown with Nelson could be dark, brooding, erotic and dangerous and yet she ached for it.

Right from the start, there’s plenty of fun as Flo breaks into Eddie’s house to look for clues, and ends up being rescued by Nelson. Side by side with the mystery surrounding Eddie’s disappearance is the growing realization that Nelson means more than she could have ever thought:

He cupped her face, brushing a thumb over her still warm cheek. “Sorry, I should have woken you but truth be told, I liked holdin’ you whilst you slept.”

Things escalate and suddenly Flo is out of her depth – especially when Nelson is kidnapped. She’ll do whatever’s necessary to get her man back:

“You want me to run back-up? I could grab the intruder from behind and put them in a headlock or use a karate kick to break their legs.”
Mr. Brown raised an eyebrow. “You do karate?”
She shook her head. “No, but I’ve watched Bruce Lee. How hard can it be?”

I loved this breath of fresh air. Flo is smart and sassy, if a little impetuous, and Nelson is, well, the perfect boyfriend * swoon *

I gobbled up this book and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Lillian Grant will write a sequel – or even better, a series of mysteries for Flo and Nelson to solve. That would be divine :-) 5/5

I need a Nelson. Not that I'm a Florence. Heck no... I'll leave the police to do their jobs, lol. Have to give her credit for caring so much, though.

Florence is a 23-year-old Avon lady and part-time cashier, still living with her parents. Nelson has been her best friend for years. When Eddie, a boy Florence once dated and who constantly flashes her when she walks by his house, goes missing, Florence convinces Nelson to help her find him. And Florence's best laid plans all get screwed up, as they usually do.

It was a really cute story. And the blossoming romance between Florence and Nelson was really sweet. They said their "I love yous" pretty quickly once it got steamy (and it did get steamy... I want one of Nelson's kisses), but they had been best friends for so long. It was just a new facet to their relationship, so it didn't seem out of place.

I giggled... I shook my head at Florence's antics... I giggled some more... I drooled over Nelson. :-) He really seemed like such a great guy, and the perfect guy to keep Florence on the straight and narrow. As tough as that was!

5***** A very funny contemporary romance. This is not my usual flavour but as I won the book I had to give it a chance. I'm very glad I did.
Flo is a very ordinary girl. No super powers or fighting skills. Eddie the local flasher has disappeared and she is the only one who cares. The police won't listen to her because she has a history of making a nuisance of herself. She is also a bit accident prone. Make that a walking disaster zone. Nelson is Flo's best friend who has always been there to look after her. How these two ordinary people manage to rescue Eddie is hilarious.
When I first started the book I wondered how someone who was living such a normal life could be the heroine of a story but that is the whole key to it. There are no superheroes or millionaires in this story just the type of person who is working on the checkout at your super market. A really fun book. I loved it.

Going with the FLo is an enjoyable read. I loved Florence and Nelson. Romances where the couple have been friends forever and finally admit they want more are the best kind. Nelson is very protective of Florence. He is always rescuing her from crazy situations that she gets herself into. They are a really cute couple and they had great chemistry together.

The mystery was pretty entertaining and kept me engaged. Even though he flashes her weekly, Florence becomes concerned when she doesn't see Eddie for a couple of days. Her desire to play amateur sleuth only gets her into trouble. It also gets Nelson kidnapped. There were some very amusing and moments.

This is the first book I have rad by Ms. Grant. I know I will be seeking out some of her other books. If they are like this one, I know I am in for a treat.

Okay this book made me laugh my ass off in certain parts! I loved that. I also loved Nelson. Oh my god.....he is gonna fill my tall, dark and handsome fantasies for many weeks to come. I liked the fact that Florence made me laugh but all her Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes b.s. was enough to make me skim thru the last third of the book. I wanted to know how it ended but I found all the unnecessary fluff to be just that.....fluff. Nelson=hot as fuck and master of my fantasies. I cannot stress this enough. I love any story where the guy and girl have been friends forever and then fall in love. That is just so awesome. The story was pretty good. Pleasant read for sure.
