For Stanzie, being herself is more dangerous than ever.
There's no place like home...or is there? When Stanzie is asked to investigate her birth pack- Mayflower--she isn't prepared for what she finds. No one respects the Alphas and the newest adult member of the pack is being encouraged to leave. Why?
To make matters worse, the men are dangerously intent on mating and shifting with her. How far will the pack she thought she knew go to get what they want? Without her bond-mate, Liam, Stanzie must face this alone and, barely ahead of threat of violence, must solve the mysteries, and fast.
WARNING: Vulgar language, sexual situations, group sex, violence
I was supplied with this copy by publisher but as always on the basis that my opinion is honestly held and not influenced by whether the book was free or paid for. Integrity of reviewers is important to me, and false reviews do no favours to authors or readers.
Well – what can I say but that Amy has done it again, I felt wrung out at the end of the last book, but with book four my emotions for Stanzie have taken a further battering. Poor Stanzie – troubled childhood with dominating father, ridiculed by the Pack for her wolf who only wants to play, found love with Grey and Elena only to lose it all 10 years later and fall further into crisis. Made an advisor by Councillor Allerton along with her bond mate Liam but their problem solving for him has caused great strain on their very new and troubled relationship. Now he's requested she look into some difficulties within her birth Pack, Mayflower and once again Stanzie's life is threatened, but this time she doesn't have Liam there to aid her and back her up. Can she pull out her usual magic and find out the reasons behind the problems and at what cost to her personally.
The story moves on from the last with a death, a funeral, problems with her and Murphy, and a phone call from Councillor Allerton about a new difficultly he needs her to discreetly investigate – business as usual! I feel for Stanzie – she tries so hard to be fair and yet doesn't get fairness back by so many who know her history. I love love love Murphy but can see the problem from both sides and want the HEA solution of course but that seems a long while coming :( Stanzie has to face her fears returning to her birth pack beginning with the Car – and then discovers something weird is happening, no-one respects the Alphas, deferring to her father instead for decisions it seems and yet no one can explain why- and why when the pack is small and needs to grow is the youngest member being encouraged to leave? More facets of Stanzies early life is revealed in this book and I am beginning to feel I know her really well. What amazes me about Amy’s writing is the way she tosses in a throwaway remark that almost gets missed and yet proves integral to the story. Its why her books are such fun to read over and over, still revealing unseen things on second and third readings. Once again I shed copious tears for poor Stanzie – I do hope the final book gives her a break – she certainly deserves it.
As always the quality of editing is impeccable, the book is a decent length for price at $5.99 dollars for 217 pages – its available from Nov 5th on e-book. The whole series a paranormal romance but with so much more than just a love story, containing plots that have you wondering what is going to happen next and to whom. I really didn't see this ending but it explains so much from earlier books – I love series for that reason, the chance to really get to “know” characters. Amy's people are always so well written I feel I’m there with them. Stars: well picky as I am this can have no less than the full 5 stars and I really really hope book five is being written as I write cos I’m just desperate to see how the story plays out.
My Review: Whoa...what an amazing book. This book is #4 in this series and I didn't really realize that this was more of an Urban Fantasy series when I chose to review it. I haven't read the other three books before this one and that meant that I've missed a LOT of the story, because the story is ongoing with UF. Even with that though, this book was so incredibly good. It honestly hurt me to put it down for a second while I was reading it because the story was so engrossing.
My entire being ached for the heartache that Stanzie is going through. Her bond mate has left her and even without knowing her history with Liam Murphy from the other books, this hurt me as a reader too. Every time his name was brought up during the book, it made me feel almost sick with the emotion of it. That is some REALLY powerful writing, especially considering I haven't read the other books to become that attached to him. Add to that she has had to go home to the pack where things have never been easy for her. She left the pack 13 years ago and her family has since turned his back on her. She's the outcast and now has to figure out what's going wrong within the pack, so there's a decent line of suspense happening here too.
Absolutely Stanzie was my favorite character in this book, but OMG, I loved Scott and Alan too. I really didn't like Scott at first, but *sigh*....God, you have to love a protective alpha male. His relationship with Stanzie is never more than friendship (he's bonded to her cousin), but the way that he watches over her and protects her just made my heart melt. I loved him as her friend. Then there is sweet Alan. Another character who has gotten such a raw deal out of this pack. You can't help but love him especially with his devotion to Stanzie.
Even Murphy and Paddy....I know that there has to be something more to why they did what they did, but up until the point where they shredded Stanzie's heart, I truly loved them. I kept hoping that they would show back up. Maybe book #5. I've bought the first 3 books in the series and hope that they will shed some light on that story, but I have a feeling that they are just going to make me more heartbroken about where that story line went in this book.
If you haven't gotten it yet, I LOVED THIS BOOK! I have searched all over and can't find any information about when book #5 comes out, but I am desperately praying that it's soon. In the meantime, I'm going to have to find some time in my crazy-busy reading schedule to go back and read the first three in the series. If you like Urban Fantasy or shifter paranormal, I highly recommend this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Inside Out by Amy Lee Burgess (The Wolf Within Book 4)
Inside Out is book four in the Wolf Within series, and I have to say it was also the first book that I’ve read written by Amy Lee Burgess. Her writing is great; I was swept into the story right from the beginning. The words flowed easily, the character descriptions are well written and I loved the entire story.
We meet Stanzie as you find out her past you see she has gone through so much already in her life that your hearts goes out to her, I knew immediately I loved this character and her personality. As you read you find out that Stanzie is alone and heartbroken, her bond mate has left her and she clearly is missing him more then she lets on.
During the story you find out a bit how and why he left and my god you want them back together. Even though Liam is not in this story, reading about what happened makes you pray they end up together it really heartbreaking that she lets him go.
So Stanzie who is now alone is sent out to investigate what is going on in her home pack, she knows this is going to be hard as she was kicked out of her pack many years ago. But she does what she needs to do and heads home. While she is there she is reunited with a few close friends, but she see’s and deep down knows something is definitely wrong. The more she digs the more danger she puts herself in. Inside Out is full of suspense and mystery I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. This book is one of those stories you stay up half the night reading as you really need to know what is going on.
Now I have to admit this was the first book in this series that I read, so I knew probably after the first chapter that I needed to go purchase the other three books right away. I will say that I was not disappointed at all and it was money well spent. The Wolf Within series is now one of my favorite series. Amy Lee Burgess is one great author and her writing is top of the line. I would read anything she writes.
I really think everyone should go out and buy Beneath The Skin, Scratch the Surface, Hidden In Plain Sight and Inside Out. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series and on that note I also hope that Stanzie and Liam are reunited as it would break my heart if they don’t end up together.
So I have rated Inside Out a 4.5 star rating and my followers please add this series to your to be read list as it is so worth it. Fantastic, Amazing, Suspenseful, and truly one of the best paranormal series I’ve read.
Amy Lee Burgess brings the reader into the world of Stanzie’s wolf pack and her childhood home, a place she hasn’t visited in a long time—and for good reason. When I signed on for this tour and offered to do a review, I wasn’t aware that this was Book 4 in an urban fantasy series. Yet, I was able to follow the story well as the author did a great job of sprinkling in just enough intriguing backstory for me to understand Stanzie and her history. After finishing INSIDE OUT, I now want to go back and start reading from the beginning with Book 1. The story was that good!
INSIDE OUT starts with Stanzie’s bond mate Murphy (and Paddy) leaving her after the events of Book 3. She pines for Murphy throughout the rest of the story and her heartache is deeply felt as I delved into what has become of her life. I kept wanting Murphy to come back, and I didn’t really know him that well, but the author’s depiction of him left me wanting to know this man so much more. I’d love to see him come back in Book 5 and the two of them work through their very real issues to an HEA.
In this chapter of Stanzie’s life, she’s been called home to investigate some nefarious activity happening in her home pack. She’s an outcast from the pack, having left it over a decade ago, but Stanzie needed this diversion to get her mind off Murphy (at least a little). I loved the suspense element as she investigated strange and dangerous occurrences with other members of the pack she trusted, all the while dealing with the fallout of her ban, and the people who had turned on her…including her own father. What she discovers is such a great twist that I didn’t see it coming! Kudos to Ms. Burgess for a surprising plot element! Stanzie faces her deepest fears and much mistrust by going back home and confronting her past. Her story in INSIDE OUT was a breakthrough for her, and she has now become a much stronger woman. I look forward to seeing how this series wraps up.
Ms. Burgess has a fantastic ability for characterization and the writing was excellent. The secondary characters were also well written and integral to moving the story along. I would highly recommend INSIDE OUT to fans of urban fantasy and particularly readers of shifter stories.
This book had an interesting mystery in it and the solution was hard to figure out. The reason for this book seems to be to explain why Stanzie's birth pack is the way it is. The birth pack's behavior shaped all of her decisions in life and this book explains why the pack was the way it was. The plot was well thought out and well executed. It answered many questions I had about Stanzie's parents and their attitude toward her.
I have to admit that I missed Murphy in this book and have high hopes for their relationship in the next one. This is where I wish for the pat romance situation to occur. The big problem occurs and one of the two finally gets to the point where they are willing to say I love you and fix everything. I am hoping for that. I don't really expect it though because Amy has not followed the romance pattern so far. I do expect that whatever way the story goes, it will also be a wonderful read.
I felt like the first three books in this series were more paranormal romance based and this was definitely more Urban Fantasy based. It threw me for a loop because I was really enjoying the love story between Murphy and Stanzie, and hoped to see more of Paddy in this one. I have to say though, that I can't wait for the next book in this series. Full review to come.
I once more found myself drawn into Stanzie's world, intrigued by her story & the other characters involved. This series has gotten better with each story & once again, Amy Lee Burgess did not disappoint.
