Ten years of penance for a crime I didn’t commit. I confessed, hoping to spare them from the searing pain of the truth. A secret only I am left to carry. Now my father wants me to leave the life I’ve built behind and come home. He wants me to run his brand-new ER. The same ER Carter works in. Going home will destroy me. I barely made it out the first time I left. But this decision isn’t just about me. There are others to consider. My punishment is just beginning.
Carter
Unity’s always lived in my periphery, like a shadow, but after ten years she’s back. And she didn’t come alone. She was my forever until she destroyed both of our families and broke my heart. I can’t stop her from coming home. I can’t control how she charms the entire town into dismissing the monster that lives under her sun-kissed skin. But I won’t forget. And neither will our ghosts. Unity Bliss destroyed my life.

Jay Leigh likes all the beverages both alcoholic and caffeinated. She hates seafood and pumpkin spice, and adores every flavor and genre of fine men and books. She resides in the wilderness of Michigan, boating and camping all summer, writing all winter. She's a decent photographer, and shamelessly purchases all things dachshund. A prolific breeder, she has a huge family, having far more than the allotted 2.2 children with the hottie who put a ring on it. One day she hopes to hang up her stethoscope permanently, spending all of her time palpating nothing but her shiny new retro keyboard. Dreaming in stories, she wants nothing more than to drown both your face and your panties with her words.
Finding My Bliss is a bitter-sweet story of a second-chance romance that kickstarts when Unity Bliss decides to move back to her hometown after a ten year hiatus. And she’s got a cute little surprise in tow.
Carter and Unity once shared a relationship that seemed like a match made in heaven, but that isn’t all they shared. 😏Their history is packed with emotional trauma, secrets, betrayal and all the usual banter that stems from young love. It’s everything I love to read and feel when I read contemporary romance, and Mrs. Brown’s writing was the dose of medicine I needed for my reading fix.
🫀To all you readers in the healthcare profession, this one is for you as the two main characters both share an occupation in the medical field.

All the feels in this one. I loved this book. I devoured it. Second chance romances are such a struggle for me because I know it has to break my heart before I can find peace, but I loved everything about this book. Unity is strong and fierce and broken. Carter is kind of a 🍆 (in the beginning), but he's charming and hot and broken. Events of the past broke both of these characters and watching their journey back into each other's lives was absolutely beautiful. I can honestly say that when I finished this book, I was not ready to be done with these characters.
Ok so this book was a mixed bag! The start was hard to get into, the staff roles is something I have no experience in and using the acronyms made it even harder to understand. You could have been more inclusive to your readers in this story if you has used simpler terms or bypassed the acronyms. And the nickname of the hospital, wrong type of book for that joke to stick. I loved the medical terms even though I had to dictionary some, it made me feel like we were in an episode of greys and I thought that might be where we were heading, but alas it was not.
There’s a lot of trauma in this story, lots of secrets. I had figured it out early on what the secret was but I enjoyed the journey getting there on paper.
But what looses me the star… Is the paranormal element that was never discussed. We just gloss over someone’s Aunty telling her stuff. Was that real, or what that his hallucination because he obviously lost his mind a bit there. The almost bicker between the ones gone, go or stay, what did he want them to do… argh unknown! Or are we left using out own interpretation there. And I would have really wanted to see the scene of him coming home, or read the phone call or something from his side showing his journey of that last part. I felt a little ripped off that we didn’t get his side of the crazy.
The writing was nice, poetic in some parts and dragged out in others but mostly really enjoyable to read. And the trick The End. I was like, no flipping way! Nice one!
The was nothing happy, joyful or blissful in this book. At times it felt like reading a medical journal, and as a someone who reads them for fun found it utter miserable . It also felt too wordy , like the author was try to fill the story line with words and feelings that didn’t need to be there . Unity and Carters relationship was miserable and in the last chapter of the book I was hoping there would be no so called happy ending , which would actually be a happy ending for them both. The epilogue set 3 years down the line seems to have just been popped there as filler . As for Charisma, she was written as a quirky 50 year old in a 9 years olds body . If your looking for a book to confuse you and annoy you and at times wonder why you wasted time reading it then this is for you . If your times is precious give it a pass . 2 stars as I liked this book a little bit more than the horrendous book I last gave 1 star to.
I really enjoyed this story. I wanted to punch Carter and Unity in the face for a lot of it, but really did like the book! I had an idea of what the secret would be but when it all came out, was surprised at the 2nd half of it. I read another review that the book was like a medical journal and too "wordy" and I can see a bit of how that thought came to be, however I don't think it detracts from the plot. It just isn't written with the assumption that the reader won't have a clue what the medical terminology for things would mean. If this got more popular, I think it would need to bed edited a bit to be dumbed down for the average Joe, but it was still easy to read without medical background. I wish we had gotten a bit more story after the letter before the epilogue, but overall this is a book I will absolutely recommend to read.
This is the first book I have read from this author. It was very fun to dive into the world of medical romance. I don't know a lot about the medical field, and Brown did a great job of making the terms understandable in context to the reader. The relationship between the two MCs is very interesting. Brown does a fantastic job of bringing the reader into the thinking of both MCs and you spend the book rooting for them to get their heads out of their a$$ and just jump in! There's a very nice paranormal element to the book as well, but it's subtle. I couldn't put it down and had to keep going just to know what happened! Highly recommend if you like romance with some spice. Not too much spice, but enough to make you wanting more!
A second chance romance that’s like it’s right out of an episode of your favorite medical drama, this story will throw mystery and twists that’ll keep you glued wondering WHAT is going on?! My suspicions were not accurate, but I won’t say more so I don’t spoil the mystery for you. Unity is a broken FMC and my heart grieves for her and what she’s been through. The author does a great job pulling us into the story’s headspace. While I don’t usually prefer multi-POV stories, the author was able to use the multiple POVs to give us more breadcrumbs and amp up the mystery. If you enjoy House, Grey’s, or a good second chance romance this is definitely the book for you!
I love stories when your loved ones stick around after death to help guide you or are just telling you that they're always with you. The secrets in this one dragged on a little too long making the resolution seem too quick and easy in comparison. Maybe it was just her crushing guilt and his ignorance to the truth? Overall, I felt this was a great story and can't wait to see more from this author.
This is amazing story about love, loss, grief and lies to protect the people she’s loves. Unity and carter are so very much ment to be together but struggle to find their way back to each other. If you’re looking for a book that is sad, sexy and forgiving with a HEA you must read this! check the trigger warnings.
So this was an interesting story. You have the dynamics between Unity and Carter. Then between Carter and his parents. Between Unity's parents and Carter's parents. It was a lot to unpack. I was a little put off with all of the medical terminology. Simpler terms would have been preferred. I did still enjoy the story though.

This book is amazing, and anyone who likes Romance with a truly emotional, truly human story should read this!!! Jay Leigh Brown captures how the heart and the head are not always on the same page and, the turmoil that causes us, how love looks different for everyone. This is one of those books that has you cursing and grumbling and crying and smiling so big someone watching you read might think you are crazy.
This was a fantastic read. This book had me captivated from the start. The characters were amazing to get to know. The writing style was phenomenal @jayleighbrown_author has a way with words that can grasp your attention and make you feel the emotions that the characters are going through. I felt so in tune with the book that I could visualize the book as if it was a movie. All opinions are my own.
