Their group name derives from the diner hangout Peach-Pit from the TV show Beverly Hills, 90210. Although both have similar styles, with some artwork it is possible to identify which artist drew it. Both are known for their bishōjo styled works. As noted in their books, they are both Geminis and have "Almost flushed our phones down the toilet...twice."
The two of them grew up together and went to the same elementary school and have been best friends ever since. Both started as doujinshi manga artists, but not as Peach-Pit. Then they were scouted by Dengeki Comic Gao!. In 2008, one of their manga, Shugo Chara!, was awarded the Kodansha Manga Award for best children's manga. Shugo Chara was also turned later into an Anime television series.

October 23, 2022Best volume so far for sure. Ikuto really makes a difference in the story despite not appearing all that much, all things considered. The Amuto content in this was glorious, though, and Ikuto owns my entire heart. That is all.

Re-read 2022: 3>4 stars. This was great! A bit of a shame about the drama, as I said in my review for my earlier re-read, what did you want her to do, tell him Ikuto is there? Drag him out while he is there?
I am also still hoping that Nadeshiko/Nagihiko is going to be honest. I do think it is funny how Amu is blatantly oblivious to it all whereas people around are noticing it.
Other than that, I had fun reading this one, things are getting more exciting and there is so much happening. I love the transformations~

Re-read 2017: A bit too much dramarama for me, plus I felt the Prince was a bit over his head with his confession. It was cute, and I was happy that he finally found the strength to confess, but instead of giving Amu time he just kept saying it (I love you), even calling her by her first name, and then also getting pissed when he finds out that Ikuto was in the room when he confessed. Um, dude, what did you want her to do? Get him out of her closet? Tell you about him? That would have been infinitesimal worse. And sure, Ikuto was a bit mean about the confession, but that is Ikuto for you. *sighs*
The best parts were with Nadeshiko, um Nagihiko. I do hope that he will be honest with Amu one day though. Until then I am going to enjoy the chaos and how different Nagihiko is from Nadeshiko. Plus apparently even his guardian eggs think that, as he now has two of them! Temari, and another one. For each side of him one. That side story was brilliant, especially the last part. :P
We also learn more about Ikuto, Utau and their family and how they got stuck with Easter. I am worried for both of them. Utau seems to be doing better with each day, but she is still hurting. Ikuto seems to be deeper in crap than before, and I really don’t trust that violin. I just wish Ikuto would have seen it before things happened.
I had a laugh when Amu found Ikuto in her bed. And how she apparently was totally OK with it in the end.
Also Amu sure is popular with the guys. Kaiki, Tadase, and Ikuto!
Another cliffhanger at the end! Oh my, oh my.

The story and execution is really 'meh' and definitely not aimed at 36 year olds... At this point, I'm mostly reading it as drawing inspiration for magical girl comics. And I'm really not a fan of the weird sexualisation of young middle schoolers (And rapey-ness from Ikuto, the high schooler) this manga has going on. Yuck.

Wow, really enjoyed this volume and been enjoying this manga series, its very similar to the anime, but different in some aspects too : ) definitely recommend this series and also the anime, really good story and strong characters and some romance too : ) can't wait to read vol.8! : )

Easily my favourite volume of Shugo Chara! Not only is the volume heavily focused on Ikuto (my favourite character), but the volume re-introduces some older characters (and I always love it when characters come back and we get to see what's been going on with them and how their character has developed). This volume has drama, fan service and new fun friendship dynamics to explore. It is a DELIGHT to read!

This was better than most of the previous volumes. Ikuto is one of my favorite characters and I'm super glad he got some more time in the spotlight here. He brings something to the story that the other characters lack, but I can't put my finger on what it is exactly.

This has been my absolute favorite volume of all of them that I have read. I loved the time we got to spend with my favorite character. Overall everyone was on point and I am pumped to continue on with the series.

So in volume 6 you feel a shift in the story, but this one drives it home. It far more serious in a lot of ways, but I don't want to spoil anything. But I gotta say, this one so far is my favorite book out of the series so far.

This was a pretty emotional read. From love (which still feels cheesy) to sadness and everything in between, it kept me invested.

SO MUCH, IKUTO. YES YES YES.
Unpopular opinion, but I really don't like Tadase that much. Like, he's okay for a side character, but as a romantic interest, it just doesn't work for me. Kairi and Ikuto seem more infatuated with Amu. I think Amu and Tadase respect and admire each other more than they have actual romantic feelings, but that's like half the point of this series, right? To explore the different kinds of love we feel? I think he is a great friend, but not the one I want Amu to be with.
Ikuto jokes around with Amu a lot, and the romantic feelings are there, but he is still very respectful of her without taking anything too far as he recognizes the age difference between them. It's only five years, but five years is a lot between a 12 and 17-year-old. My heart absolutely MELTED when he told her to hurry and grow up already! >.< HE IS GONNA WAIT FOR HER, AND I AM HERE FOR IT.
Lastly, we NEED to talk about Nagahiko becoming a more important character again. They came in at such a perfect time, and I'm so happy to see them back!

OKAY THEN. Tell me how this middle-grade manga is so woke about trans issues? Nagahiko's struggle with their identity as a man vs. a woman is so well depicted. Even the symbolism of now having a male and female egg who have yet to hatch! Which will they ultimately decide to be, which encapsulates their spirit more?
I'M DYING. Such a good volume.

18th review) I skipped to the 7th volume of this series because I've also been watching the anime of this series. I still like the story plot of this series because there are a few twists and turns here and there. One about a cross dresser (I guess you could call him that), love confessions, and a seventeen year old crashing into a ten/eleven year old's bedroom. A lot of things reveal in this volume, and secrets are also uncovered.
I actually wrote another review of this book like two minutes ago... I then accidentally deleted everything... I can't believe I'm writing another one, so yeah. If this sounds like not as descriptive as my other reviews, it's because of what happened two minutes ago. My other review of this was really descriptive, but now it's all gone.
Anyway, Amu also gets heart broken, while she breaks another person's heart. She notices that this time was the only time where she actually noticed that she hurt someone really, really badly. She starts feeling depressed and she doesn't know what to do.
There's a lot more events that happens through out the story. Some in which might surprise you if you start from the beginning of the series. It's actually amazing, at least when I first encountered to event/happening. Some parts of the book surprised me quite a bit...

This is always the volume that I think of when I think back on Shugo Chara! (╹-╹)
It's giving DRAMA.
As much as I like the Nagihiko scenes, the Ikuto plotline is what stands out. And while yes it's problematic, I think it was done really well- specifically the way Amu's mom reacted. It's inappropriate for Ikuto to be staying in Amu's room (and the whole shower scene)- I can only imagine what was going through her mom's head- and she pointed out how not only the situation was inappropriate, but how the age gap was too "Amu you're only in elementary school...normally, this is something we would report to the police,"- and it would have been normal and perfectly fine to do so, but I really liked that her mom reacted calmly, pointing out the issues with the situation (her worries), and listened to her daughter. I think this was a really good representation of a good parent that we don't frequently get (in manga or otherwise)- and kids/teens who feel safe are more inclined to talk and feel safe with their parents.

Amu was a great character, she was a little whiny at times but overall she was able to fight and stand up for what she believed in. I liked her relationship with everyone else.
The guardians added some comedic humor to the series and you can't go wrong with a little battle magic.
For fans of Sailor Moon and Tokyo Mew Mew.

As usual, Shugo Chara is great on art, great on humor, great on characters, but a bit weak on the story.
This volume involves a new Jack, a new relationship, a secret (or two), and the beginnings of a threat. Oh.... and guys wearing skirts. ^_^

This series just keeps getting better and better. I loved all the Amu and Ikuto scenes and all the character development that has been happening in the last two volumes. I hope the energy continues as the plot develops.
