Spoilers ahead!

When we last left Sonic, he and his fellow freedom fighters had managed to stop a devastating duel between the dark wizards Naugus and Mogul while destroying a powerful weapon at the tragic cost of a noble hero's life.

Now, Sonic is looking for his friend, Tommy Turtle, who has disappeared after wrecking a considerable amount of Tails' and Rotor's nanite-technology experiments. At the same time, Dr. Eggman finds out through really poor deduction skills who the mysterious hacker known as Anonymous who has begun to reveal itself and summon new powers to Mobius. Even after the fight with Anonymous, Sonic's still got trouble in the form of his relationship with Fiona Fox, who has a few dark secrets still up her sleeve.

The story, in comparison to The Darkest Storm, is a little more jagged and confusing. The Anonymous character is not too shocking and when he is defeated, it's not really spectacular, save for the death of another interesting character like Sir Connery in Darkest Storm. However, the return of Tails' parents is a nice recovery from that. The twist with Fiona is an interesting surprise also, though you might see it coming if you know a bit more about her. At any rate, this book is a bit of a let down from Darkest Storm. I'd say a six out of ten stars.

It really does feel like the authors are trying to build a real building with Duplos. The characters and stories in the first 25 issues of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic are not good. But here we are anyway trying to amplify them and whatnot.

This book is a letdown on content because it looks like it's missing issues between the last volume for no particular reason. It feels a little jumpy and disjointed and tries to have, like, a Death of Jean Grey moment which does not work. Also, and more on this in a later review maybe, the authors' conception of women and romance is really bad.

Let's just say for now that despite the numerous female characters, including some that talk to each other, these books do not pass the Bechdel test.

Felt like the A.D.A.M arc could have been longer. If we had spent more time with Tommy, his sacrifice would have been much more impactful. My favourite story definitely is "I Am." Shadow's discovery of his past and who he is meant to be is always great. Not to mention how funny this story was. The fact that Snively attacked the Freedom Fighters just because he lost his last six hairs and tracks each one individually. is hilarious

It's amazing the depth of character and the complexity of their stories. These characters have been through a war and it shows. But along with the fatigue and melancholy, there are moments of love and joy. It's a compliment to good writing that an all-ages book based on a video game character made for engrossing reading.
