The Chilkoot Trail is behind the group of Yukon Gold Rush re-enactors. Only with Andria's satchel of foraged foods and goods she and Tyson had bought back in Skagway were they able to cross the border into Canada. Things had turned in her favor, or so she'd like to think.
In order to keep peace with the group, Van was taking Olivia over his knee. Andria tried to accept it, but she doesn't trust Olivia and she didn't like it. She kept telling herself, just a few more days, and then they reach Dawson City. What more damage could she do? What more could possibly go wrong? Just a few more days and a whole new life awaits Andria with Tyson and Van, just around the Winding Arm.
This is the third and last of the Sam McGee series, which NEEDS to be read like it is one book because these do not stand on their own. That being said, the characters and relationships really develop here, and they're not perfect... Even for a menage tres. Andy still has a low, easily-damaged self-confidence that is rocked to its foundations as Van continues to spank Olivia for the good of the group. Her world is turned upside-down when she discovers while on the trail, after meeting a couple of hippies that knew her father--that she really WAS the battlefield of her parent's war with each other. And this all makes Van and Tyson have to be especially careful if they're going to get their Bride back to Tucson with them to become their ACTUAL bride.
I loved it--I couldn't put it down. There wasn't a whole lot of discipline in the whole series, but there was a lot of spanking and it was all built-up well. What sets this apart from other books is the plot and the characters that just keep developing and developing so when the book ends, you're not ready to let the characters go! Normally I'm not one to tell an author to write a sequel, but even I have a guilty desire to beg on hands and knees to see how their relationship develops at home. THAT's going to be the true trick--how they're going to manage their happily-ever-after. Still, I felt this book did leave at a good point and I have read it like... four times or so, despite the fact that you have to sort of start the book at the beginning and go through till the end, so it's quite an ample-length tale! Well worth the money, though, even if you have to buy all three. At least it was for me--I spent hours and hours enjoying this series for the cost of a date to the movies with my husband. :)
You can really feel the tension in this final installment as it builds through out the story. I felt even more drawn into the lives of the characters. It was interesting to see how the finally show down between the girls play out. Also, how Van, Tyson, and Andria begin to really think about the reality of their relationship.
This was an awesome ending to a really great series. The attention to detail was great and made you really feel like you were part of the Yukon Gold Rush. There are definitly still problems between the characters but nothing that wasn't all handled nicely in the end. GREAT SERIES!
