Robichaux / Sheldon #1

Having His Baby

Rate this book
A marriage of convenience...

It made perfect sense. Or so Dr. Talbot Robichaux told Dr. Stephanie Sheldon. Since both had busy hospital practices, their baby would be much better off - and their own lives much easier - if they shared parental duties.

Stephanie couldn't fault Tal's logic, but his thirteen-year-old daughter could. Not only was her father marrying some woman she'd never met, but now she was going to have to share his attention with a baby.

Stephanie sympathized with the girl, who had no way of knowing the marriage was only temporary. Or was it? Living with Tal, sharing his life and catching the special glances he gave her, Stephanie couldn't help wishing that "temporary" would become "permanent"!

Talk about angst, angst, and more angst

What a totally realistic story with wonderful characters and, did I mention angst??? This one had it all. And boy do I want a Tal as my hero! What a man. Stephanie and Tal worked at the same hospital as doctors. They had a one night stand and boom she was pregnant. I really thought it odd she knew at two weeks??!? But I digress, Tal is the tallest and silent type but he totally was in love with the heroine. They marry, she thinks it was due only to the pregnancy but it wasnt. She pushed him away but eventually she let him in.And then all the rest of the angst happened. A newly found niece, a missing twin sister, a 13 year old spoiled rotten step daughter , a bitter head of hospital, teen pregnancies, child abuse, and way more than I was expecting. But did it touch my heart, oh yes! The ending was simply great. I must say I am glad I read it.

Marriage of convenience story between two doctors who got pregnant after a one-night stand at a medical conference. The H/h had known each other for five years and worked at the same hospital in obstetrics. The heroine was divorced and a product of the foster care system. Hero was widowed and a member of New Orleans’s elite. He also had a hostile 13 year-old daughter.

The romance takes a back seat to all the minor characters and situations the H/h have to deal with. We’re talking teen pregnancy, drug abuse, gun violence, for-profit hospitals and family dynamics.
It was a very good read, but the romance takes a back seat, so be warned. I liked both the H/h and all the minor characters.

The only quibbles - besides the lack of romance - I have are with the teen mom workshop that the heroine ran. All the characters sound like the “prison Mike” sketch from The Office. The last minute black moment between the H/h felt out of character and tacked on. It was quickly resolved, so no harm, no foul.

If you want an absorbing, longer read, this will fit the bill.

Having His Baby

This was an emotional story line. They worked together and one night while at a seminar ended up together. A few weeks later she finds out she is pregnant. They both have secrets that will come out, but the hurt that those brings could either heal or destroy. I was involved enough that I had to finish it. Can't wait to read more by this author.

This book really surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. It was quite intriguing how the relationship between the two main characters started and how they tried to work on it when the heroine discovered that she was pregnant. The hero was a single father and you can probably guess what happened after he brought his new lady to meet his pre-teen daughter.

Something else that I liked from this book were the secondary stories. I like it when an entire book doesn't just go on about just the main characters' story.
