Kamui and Fuma have made their decisions and chosen their sides, but at an appalling cost. A traumatized Kamui needs the kind of healing that only a powerful psychic can provide. He goes to visit the seer Hinoto, and although her visions bring him clarity, they also unearth painful memories from deep within his past. Fortunately, there’s time for reflection as both sides of the conflict regroup: Kamui and other Dragons of Heaven attend school at CLAMP Academy, while Fuma finds his place among the Dragons of Earth.
CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.
In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.
In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.
A grown-up Subaru . . . so strange and sad to see him all alone, chain-smoking and wishing for what he shouldn't. Because this is CLAMP, which means you should be very very careful what you wish for.
I'm a little nervous (okay, a lot) about volume five, because Seishiro is off-the-hook insane and certain people don't yet realize they are on opposite sides of this battle, which will make for some pretty devastating revelations. Fuma is creepily similar to Seishiro (and doesn't he tell Kamui the same thing Seishiro tells Subaru - 'I'm the one who's going to kill you') and did I mention how terrifyingly insane Seishiro is? it's worth repeating. I really hope Subaru gets his revenge.
This isn't Subaru's story...but it's not NOT his story. I think the extreme juxtaposition of Subaru and Seishiro's whole THING with Subaru and KAMUI now went WAY over my head as a wee teen. Now? I'm climbing the walls. CLAMP, I just want a word outside!
Read 07/12 (Oh my god, I caught up on my goodreads reviews, BLESS!)
Ah, this is the volume "set up", where a lot of the fanfic I read would begin. Basically after the first volume in this one (Vol 10), that's when it'd begin. So I kind of never want to leave this volume. It's safer here.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this series is DARK! But, my god, it's so good. So much is happening and I honestly have no idea who's safe and who's not. I'm getting connected to the Seven Seals so I hope they'll all be fine but knowing CLAMP, they probably won't be. *tear* Two more volumes...I don't know if I'm ready.
Break the woobies. Break the woobies. Epic splash page. DESTINY! If you haven't figured out what you're getting with X by now, I'm afraid I can't help you :) Pretty, but repetitive. Epic, but also ridiculous. This is definitely a guilty pleasure reread!
Always, CLAMP impresses with their amazing artwork and deep and moving stories. This volume being no exception to that rule. I can't stop recommending there works to people.
While parts of X are definitely dated (especially given that I'm reading it for the first time in 2021), it's still a really gripping story, and the art is so beautiful!
While X definitely takes a while to get going (I would say that first 7 or 8 volumes are basically just the build-up for the later volumes), by this omnibus volume, the action has truly kicked off. As someone who's just getting into reading older CLAMP stuff, I'm loving the latter part of X so far, and I really appreciate how CLAMP is always able to create plot twists that surprise me.
the one thing i really don't get about this manga is fuuma. like this volume talks a lot about choice? saya choosing to die for toru, toru choosing to die for the earth (awful lot of women choosing to die in this series but let's save that discussion for another time). so i just 1000% don't understand why clamp writes fuuma the way they do? kamui made his choice and bam, fuma gets a creepy personality transplant out of nowhere. did he have a say in this? seems doubtful and pod person fuuma isn't telling. :l this here is what we call thematic inconsistency.
ah well. in other news i liked getting to see the dragons of heaven living together nakama style. the calm before the storm is always the best part! 3 stars
Some parts were repetitive but everything about Subaru and Kamui was wonderful. I am flying through the series so fast I have not idea what I will be doing with myself once I am done!
The only problem I have with this series is how utterly confusing it is. I can't keep track of certain things cuz it's so jumpy and therefore I'm having troubles while reading it. But it IS good!
