Can high school delinquent Mafuyu clean up her act and still kick some butt?!

Mafuyu is the no-nonsense, take-charge and hard-hitting leader of her high school gang. But when she gets expelled for being a delinquent, her mother, fed up with her daughter’s wayward ways, sends Mafuyu to an isolated school far off in the country.

Hayasaka has been gloomier than usual since he hasn’t been able to see Super Bun in a long time. Shinobu butts his ninja nose in and suggests Hayasaka and Super Bun go on date for Christmas Eve. Mafuyu very reluctantly agrees to play “matchmaker,” and dons the rabbit mask to help cheer up her friend. But the date goes much better than she expected! How is she going to deal with Hayasaka now?

Check out more manga and graphic novel reviews @ Perspective of a Writer...

As this is a multi-volume series my opinion is also influenced by the previous volumes... And there may be references to the plot of those volumes... SO READ WITH CARE! Here is my review of volume 1... and volume 2... and volume 3... and volume 4... and volume 5... and volume 6... and volume 7... and volume 8... and volume 9... and volume 10...

Mafuyu is away at boarding school to clean up her thugish ways and runs into the man who influenced her, who is now a teacher, Takaomi Saeki. She has finally made her first friend, Hayasaka, a rather dense thug. Together they are the Public Morals Club!

The art in this volume was good but it didn't stick out or impress me in any way... It just was at the same quality as its been the last few volumes which is pretty perfect.

The story though was a great mix of main story and perfect interlude! Mafuyu must deal with another student council member... and this time something SHOCKING happens... She runs to Saeki because yeah... its THAT shocking... And superbun goes on a date with... Hayasaka?! This was fascinating... both his actions and her conclusions. I can't wait to see more development here...

The tension was YEEEHAW high this volume because of the SHOCKING event... I was glad though that it was resolved in this volume, because I don't think it would have been fair to drag it out. I'm loving the moments with Saeki... we needed that this volume and it hinted at the past again (which I LOVE!) So I was pretty heart pumpingly satisfied this volume!

Totally authentic how Mafuyu followed "Aya-bean" and figured him out... It didn't come easily to her but she had to seek help... And I loved how all the events in this volume went toward giving those answers she needed. This is not always the case with this series so it made me really happy!

I'm not sure if it is because I haven't read for a year or what but this and the previous volumes have been so, so good! This has always been a 4 star read to me... good but forgettable at times ... But now we've hit the HIGH times... quite worth reading to this point!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

BOTTOM LINE: Another student council member... FIGHT!

In volume 11 of Oresama Teacher we follow Mafuyu through winter break and on to the start of the next term. The Public Morals Club now has to face the next member of the student council, the mysterious loner Ayabe.

Volume 11 had a lot of really great moments. I loved seeing Hayasaka getting one-on-one time with Mafuyu, even if it was Mafuyu as Super Bun. Tsubaki is definitely giving the impression that Hayasaka is hiding something and I am very much looking forward to learning what that is. I also loved seeing Mafuyu together with Kangawa and Maizono, and I thought the development between Kangawa and Mafuyu in particular was great. Kangawa is one of my favourite characters in the series, he’s just so precious and adorable. Ayabe is also a favourite of mine so naturally I really enjoyed his story arc. Tsubaki is just as ridiculous as always so finding out what was in Ayabe’s guitar case came as less of a surprise than it should have. I also really liked that Ayabe brought out a more vulnerable side to Mafuyu and forced her to work through something she’s never had to deal with before. I also think Mafuyu and Ayabe have fantastic chemistry, and I really liked how he puts up with her pestering and acts motherly towards her.

El capítulo sobre Mafuyu regresando a casa para año nuevo, con sus amigos acompañándola me encantó, me hizo reír, por otro lado, todo el asunto de Ayabe fue extenso, al punto de no atraparme por completo..

In Summary

After some holiday themed comedy, Tsubaki-sensei introduces the Public Morals Club’s next threat: the mysteriously powerful Ayabe. Unlike previous Student Council members, Ayabe recognizes Mafuyu for who she is and forces her to battle him with everything she’s got. But once Mafuyu figures out the trick behind his strength, the ultimate outcome of their fight is rather disappointing.

The Review

Volume 11 starts off with two holiday themed chapters. First, it’s Christmas time, and with Hayasaka in a funk after missing Super Bun’s last appearance, Mafuyu arranges for him to have a date with his hero. Tsubaki-sensei’s gotten some mileage out of Hayasaka’s Super Bun crush, but she milks it for what it’s worth by having a giddy Hayasaka and a self-conscious Super Bun/Mafuyu touring the town doing typical Christmas date stuff. Then it’s New Year’s at home with Mafuyu’s former minions Kangawa and Maizono. The humor in this chapter is a little more difficult for Western readers to understand as most jokes require knowledge of hot pots and Japanese New Year’s traditions, but you do get to enjoy Mafuyu having fun with her old pals.

After ringing in the new year, Tsubaki-sensei picks up with the next challenge to the Public Morals Club: Ayabe Reito. The arc begins well, presenting an enemy with an astounding strength that belies his nondescript appearance. His everpresent guitar case, bouts of illness, and the fact that he’s the only officer that wants out of the Student Council add to his mystique.

Mafuyu’s battles of late have been under the guise of Natsuo or Super Bun so it’s refreshing when Ayabe recognizes her actual capabilities. His directness forces Mafuyu to respond in kind and revert to the intensity of her gang leader days. Tsubaki-sensei truly draws you in as Mafuyu struggles to figure out how to take Ayabe down on her own. Once the secret behind his power is revealed though, it’s a bit of a letdown. The intensity disappears, and their duel devolves into a kind of silliness that leaves you wondering how Ayabe could have ever posed any kind of threat.

Synopsis:

Hayasaka has been gloomier than usual since he hasn’t been able to see Super Bun in a long time. Shinobu butts his ninja nose in and suggests Hayasaka and Super Bun go on date for Christmas Eve. Mafuyu very reluctantly agrees to play “matchmaker,” and dons the rabbit mask to help cheer up her friend. But the date goes much better than she expected! How is she going to deal with Hayasaka now?

My Thoughts:

This volume starts out with Mafuyu as Super Bun on a date with Hayasaka. They have a good time, but it seems that we get a bit of a glimpse into Hayasaka a little more. It was a cute chapter.

Next, we get to see Mafuyu go home and visit with her friends for New Year's. I'm still convinced that Kangawa has a crush on her. Maizono was as hopeless as ever. I love that guy.

When the new term starts, Miyabi sics Ayabe on the Public Morals club and Mafuyu gets her ass kicked. She doesn't handle it well at first, but Takaomi helps her come to her senses. I still want to know what he really thinks of her. He seemed to want to take care of her injuries himself. Later on, he started to say something to her, but stopped himself. What was he going to say?!

When Mafuyu bounces back, she decides to research Ayabe and pretty much stalks him. Before you know it, she's somehow made friends with him. It was weird, but cute. When the secret behind Ayabe's strength was revealed, I was incredibly shocked. That dude is as weird as everyone else in this manga! I love him, though.

Finally, a volume where Mafuyu is the focus again! I still maintain there are too many characters and its hard to keep them straight. But at least we finally get some Mafu time a midst the chaos.

Mafuyu's Christmas trip home was a fun interlude, and I enjoyed seeing her hang out with her old gang. Hayasaka's date with SuperBun was cute, too, though I can't believe he hasn't figured out that that's Mafuyu.

The best part of this volume, though, was Mafuyu's battle with Ayabe, aka Aya-bean. Yes, he's another random student council guy, which would normally annoy me, but he's just different enough to make him interesting. The fact that he could mysteriously beat Mafuyu in a battle was crazy, and I loved with Mafuyu set out to follow him and figure it out, as well as his reaction to it all. Their lunch together was so funny and cute. And then, when Ayabe finally told Mafuyu the secret of his strength, I couldn't stop laughing, especially at her reaction. It's a weird thing, and it makes no rational sense, but I'm fine suspending my disbelief. I like seeing Ayabe and Mafuyu together, so I hope we see more of him in the next volumes. Maybe he'll join the Public Morals Club, too?

Fun, Christmas and New Years, all about Mafuyu this volume. I don't know why the guy could be blackmailed into student council with his "secret," it wasn't particularly bad.
