The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

Here and Then:
Rue Claridge's cousin Elisabeth had disappeared and Rue was determined to find her to make sure she was where she wanted to be and happy. Rue began her search at her Aunt Verity's home where she and Elisabeth had been raised together. Her aunt had passed away and left her home and a necklace to Elisabeth. Elisabeth had written about the necklace allowing her to pass through time and that she had found someone she loved in the past. Rue didn't believe the stories but found herself in 1892 when wearing the necklace. She met and fell in love with the Marshal, Farley Haynes.
Rue told Farley that she had come from the future. She found out that Farley had learned a lot from a love of reading. His dream was to save up enough money to purchase and run a ranch. He didn't plan on staying on as a marshal forever.
Rue first met the marshal when she was found in Elisabeth Forney's home. She then realized that she needed money to purchase food and appropriate clothing. She won some playing poker but that wasn't allowed of women during that time so she was arrested. She went back to Elisabeth's home after being arrested and eventually ended up back in her own time.
She went to the church graveyard and found Elisabeth and her husband's gravesite. She met a man named Michael there who claimed to be a great-great grandson of Elisabeth. He invited her to visit with his grandmother in Seattle. She went to Seattle to do some shopping to find some vintage clothing that would be appropriate for 1892 and to get some old money. Her sneakers, t-shirt and jeans weren't acceptable in 1892.
She put the necklace back on and went back in time again. Farley helped her find a boarding house to stay but the banker was also staying there and made a pass at her so she left. She sleeping with Farley that night. She discovered that her necklace and money had gone missing. They slept together that night and in the morning Farley announced that they were getting married. Rue wasn't so sure.
Rue went out searching for her necklace in the morning. The townspeople thought she was strange when she started looking around their outhouses, which was where she was when she came back in time. She found the necklace and had lunch with Farley. He told her that the justice of the peace would be by shortly. Rue went by Elisabeth's house and was happy to find out that she was back home.
Her and Elisabeth talked and Rue was told that the house caught on fire in the past time and her husband and daughter had been caught in it. He had the necklace and they were saved by going into the future. They came back to find Elisabeth on trial for their murder. She was cleared and married the day they returned. They honeymooned in San Francisco and she was now pregnant. Rue told her that she wasn't meant to stay in the past and Rue was going home now that she knew that Elisabeth was safe and happy.
Jonathan had gone to check on the townsfolk since he was their doctor and had just returned. He came back with Farley who was angry at Rue for missing their wedding. They were arguing and ended up in the future together. They spent the night together and headed out through Seattle to the ranch in Montana that Rue's grandparents had left her. She wanted Farley to become the foreman so he would have a job in her time.
They married in Montana after a few days and Rue found that Farley had brought the necklace that carried them through time with him. He told Rue that he was going back to settle things in 1892. Rue asked that she be able to go back with him and he agreed but went out early in the morning and didn't return.
He had been gone a month when Rue was getting sick in the mornings. She also remembered her conversation with Michael Blake and called his grandmother. She told Rue that she had a letter for her and Rue drove to Seattle through a snowstorm to read it. The letter told her where the necklace had been hidden by Elisabeth. Rue went to her aunts house and found the necklace. She used it to go back to 1892 and to Farley. He was supposed to have died after being shot in a bank robbery. Rue arrived during the robbery and the necklace took both of them to back to Rue's time. Rue then realized that she was pregnant.
Dalton's Undoing:
Seth Dalton was out walking his mother's dogs when he saw someone drive away in his $30 thousand 1969 matador red GTO convertible. The driver was the new elementary school principal, Jenny Boyer's son, Cole. Seth took him home as she was headed out to a school board meeting and rather than have him charged with stealing the car, Seth suggested that Cole work for him to pay the cost of repairing the car after running it into a ditch. Jenny agreed. Cole had a bad attitude after his parents divorced due to his father leaving them for another woman. Jenny had moved to Idaho from Seattle to live with her father.
Jenny and her 9 yr old daughter, Morgan, drove to Seth's horse barn to drop Cole off for work. Seth showed them around the place until Morgan had an asthma attack. Seth helped her back to his house and told Morgan that he also had asthma. It had gotten better as he grew older and she would probably do the same. Jenny was surprised at Seth's attitude.
Cole worked with Seth a couple times a week. He seemed to change into a different person working on cars. He loved it. Seth got him up on a horse for a little bit each time he came out and he was gaining confidence. When Seth first dropped off Cole at Jenny's, Jenny told him that she wasn't interested in becoming friends with him. She was very attracted to him and felt her best defense was pushing him away. She was 4 years older than him and she had two children. Her husband and deserted the family and moved to France with another woman and she didn't trust herself around him. Seth was more intrigued than he was previously. Jenny's attitude made him more determined to make her like him. He invited her to join his family and go into the woods to cut down Christmas trees. He wore her down until she agreed.
She went sledding after they all had trees and she was talked into going down the hill herself. She flew off the sled and hit her head. Seth carried her to the house and his brother, Jack, the doctor came and checked on her. She slept for 45 minutes and Seth stayed with her. He kissed her when she woke up but she told him that she couldn't risk her reputation by being seen with the town's bad boy. They didn't see each other for two weeks because Jenny was avoiding him. He drove Cole home one night to find Morgan having a severe asthma attack and Jenny's car wasn't running. He took them to the clinic and then back home. He stayed the night and fixed her car. Jenny and he kissed again in the garage. She couldn't seem to help herself.
They spent some part of the day together for the next 10 days and Jenny was determined to break things off when Cole and Morgan interrupted them by involving them in a snow fight. She somehow accepted an invitation to finish her Christmas shopping with Seth in Jackson Hole. They finished and went to dinner. They ran into an ex of Seth's who tried to punch him and ended up giving Jenny a black eye. There happened to be a blizzard outside and they had to stay in a hotel for the night and they ended up sleeping together.
Jenny got a call from her assistant at the school telling her that their caterer's wife had gone into labor early and she didn't know what to do. Seth took her home and when he dropped her off, he asked her why she wasn't taking a date to the school Christmas party. He was hurt when she told him that she didn't want to be seen with him. He accused her of using him, throwing back at her what she had accused him of doing. He went home and tried a couple of drinks and that didn't work to take away the pain. She reminded him of his abusive father who had never accepted Seth for who he truly was. He just saw the asthma and not the boy behind it. He talked a bit to his brother and then went to the bar. He ran into an old friend who was married and had 3 girls and started telling her about Jenny hoping to get some advice.
Jenny had worked out the catering problem by going to his house and finding the food he had prepared ahead of time. She finished up some of the food herself and the party seemed to be a success. Everyone was having a good time except for her. She spoke with her assistant about Seth and she already knew the truth about how she got her black eye. She told Jenny that Seth really was a good guy and she shouldn't worry so much about being seen with him. Jenny decided to go apologize to Seth and give him a chance. He had told her that he thought he was falling in love with her when he had dropped her off.
Jenny was on her way to his place when she spotted his GTO at the bar. She stopped and saw him talking to his friend and almost left. They stopped talking when they noticed her and she went to his table and was thankful to find out that the girl was married and not interested in Seth. She apologized and he accepted.
Six months later, Seth was at the bar with his brothers and he told them that they should wrap up the bachelor party. He was bored and he suspected they were too. They prepared to leave when their wives and Jenny came in. They weren't having too much fun at the bachelorette party either. They decided to put their makeup to good use and came to collect their guys. Seth and Jenny were married the next day.

Time travel romance is my all time favorite reading material. I have read several of Linda Lael Miller's books and I would have to say this is up towards the top of the list. The plot was a bit unusual and was hard to guess what was next. I do that sometimes just to see if I can. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm so busy these days I can't find much time to read. This book was hard to put down. So lets say I found the time to finish it in two days. If your thinking of reading it I would say to add it to your list.

This was made up of 2 books. The first story by Linda Lael Miller. A sweet love story but I could not get into the part where Rue goes back in time to look for her cousin. The going back and forth in time was so unreal. While in the past Rue meets and falls in love with the sheriff--Marshal Farley Haynes. He ends up coming back to the present with her but feels he must go back to the past eventually and set things straight. Necklaces with power and letters from the past showing up just did not appeal to me.

The second story was written by Raeanne Thayne. She wrote a sweet love story but it lacked much plot. Jenny is divorced and mother of 2 and moves to town where her father lives to become the school principal. Due to circumstances she gets to know the town playboy, Seth, and both are interested in each other. Jenny thinks he is just a player and does not want to get involved with him but her feelings are pretty strong. She is trying to fit in in this town and getting involved with Seth she felt would give the wrong impression. She thought he would be interested in her for a few weeks and then drop her but this is not the case. Typical- boy meets girl, fall in love, have problem and get back together. A light read for summer

Very readable and enjoyable set of cowboy romances, with one time-travel fantasy and one contemporary. Both heroes are fine, as are both heroines. Everyone's pretty likeable. The first one is good fun, if you're willing to accept the time travel on face value, though the ending is so rushed I missed it - I actually had to re-read it to figure out what happened. The second one is nice and sappy, and fairly realistic, though there were some incorrect wording here and there that pulled me out of reading - i.e. "later" instead of "early" used once, and "razor burn" where the character clearly meant "stubble burn" (unless the heroine was really planning on showing up at a work party with razor burn on her face; in which case, this book might be more far out than I gave it credit for). Still, funny in parts, sweet in others, with a mild tinge of heat in both. My main complaint about this edition is that the book is too thick to read comfortably unless I completely broke the spine. I would have enjoyed these better as separate novels, but who's going to complain too much about a two-fer?
