My husband and I have gotten hooked on this reality show. Who'da thunk it? But one of the things that impressed me from the first time I watched it is that they pray together as a family at the end of every show. I downloaded a 'sample' of the book on my Kindle. Started reading it one morning on the way to work (I ride the bus) and was again impressed that every chapter began with a scripture. I love that they don't take themselves very serious but they do take their Lord very serious and give Him the credit and praise for the Godly wisdom they have asked Him for. Coming from a redneck background I loved the book. I grew up eating whatever my grandfather was hunting at the time. He would fry chicken, squirrel, rabbit, quail all in one batch, served with white milk gravy, hot biscuits, butter and honey. No one could fry up a batch like my Pappy. Want something different to read... I would recommend The Duck Commander Family.

I couldn't put this book down after I started reading. It was soooo good. I could start it over right now seriously, that is how good it was. Great God loving family, all of them!

This is another one of those "if you like the TV show, then you will enjoy this book." The book reveals more interesting things about the Robertson family that you don't get from the show. It was a fun read. Willie and Korie go back and forth with the writing, but what I enjoyed most is their strong faith in God, and respect in the family. Some good solid advice is also included in this book. I could care less about the recipes that were added at the end of each chapter, but it did add a uniqueness to the book. Enjoyed seeing the photos too. I must admit, I was stunned to read about the education of many family members, including Martin's. Favorite quotes in the book: "If you're excited when your kids or husband walks in the front door, then you'll have a much happier family." "Like Uncle Si says, it's never a good family reunion when you start firing relatives." "We made it through some really touch times. We were a lot like that roadkill. Most people saw a dead, stinky animal that had the bad luck to run out in front of the wrong vehicle. But when we saw roadkill, we saw something that could catch a sackful of crawfish. We saw potential in the most unlikely places!"

I liked it so much!! I loved reading about Willie’s adventures as a child and how this family came together to create such a legacy for generations to come.

Disclaimer first: I am not a Duck Dynasty TV show fan. I am a vegetarian, non-hunting, beach girl, this is not my lifestyle. I have seen maybe 4 shows and really enjoyed Si, and his offbeat ways,which made me curious. Then my much loved and repeated neighbor said he loves the show and the family and gave me this and another book written by family members. He talked about where this family came from with admiration in his eyes so I gave it a read. I thoroughly enjoyed their story and gained respect for them and their journey. I learned, again that the media is not the best way to judge a person or a family. I never saw any hate, nor any malicious words toward anyone in the pages. No, I found quit the opposite.
What a strong family these Robertson's have built. They fought through some tough times. They lived without many of the things we take for granted and survived with grace. They graduated college, they excelled in sports, these people are more than given credit for. Willie and his wife take us down the path of their grandparents, their parents, to them and finally to their children. They all played into the cards of this story, every card being an important play. This is what family is all about. I thought it was fascinating and about so much more that red-necks and duck hunting.
Quick and dirty-I love a good tale of fighting spirits who followed their hearts. if that is what you're looking for give this one a try.

I am a huge fan of Duck Dynasty. What you see on the TV show is real. The Robertson family does not "put on" for anyone and that clearly comes through in this book. It was a good book that flowed extremely well. Kudos to the writer! This family struggled for many years trying to build their company. There are so many things in the book that needed to be said. Example: I learned much about Korie's successful family and how they worked with the Robertsons to achieve a goal that Willie was sure was doable. This book covers the Robertsons' faith and family well and it gives some much deserved credit to Miss Kay for all the cooking she did for 40 years and the multitude of other jobs that helped keep her family and business going. I was also impressed to read that when the Robertsons needed financial help periodically, they weren't too proud to ask the Howard family, Korie's family, for help. When I started reading this book, I didn't want to put it down. It's just that good. If you're a Duck Dynasty fan like I am, you'll really love this book.

This was a great read and I learned so much about the Robertson clan that I didn’t know. The men are all very well educated and no dummies when it comes to business sense. I was quite surprised to learn that Phil is a very different man today than he was in his earlier years when he and Miss Kay married.
The Robertson’s are a very religious family and base their business decisions and family decisions around God’s teachings. They feel no matter if they win or lose, it’s because what God has planned for them and manage to take everything in stride.
For anyone who loves to watch Duck Dynasty will also love to read this book. It’s packed full of information that will blow you away in a lot of places. I might just read it again so I can remember all the things I learned about this talented and prosperous family. Now when I watch the show I’ll have a really good understanding of who everyone is and what makes them tick. Highly recommendable for sure!

I almost want to be part of this family after reading this book! (The thing holding me back is that I have a really awesome unique family of my own already.) I definitely want to be a neighbor to and friends with the Robertsons! The subtitle of this book is: How Faith, Family, and Ducks Built a Dynasty. I'm going to do this review broken into those same categories. (See? Even the subtitle is perfect and helpful!)
Faith: The Robertsons have faith in abundance without coming across as "preachy" or self-righteous. That's rare, y'all! (Granted, quite a large number of Christian authors are trying to be "preachy." They're trying to convert. That's cool.) These guys have real, day-to-day, sometimes messy faith. They have a we-gotta-get-business-done-son faith. A discipline the kids/delight in the kids faith. A family dinner faith. The Robertsons aren't blindly naive; they know they might be the only Christians in the board room & that they might lose a sale, but they never compromise on their faith. I respect that. With a capital R.E.S.P.E.C.T. tell me what it means to me.
Family: I really appreciated the respect and love for each other that's so obvious in this book. There's a lot of family history and reminiscing throughout this book. Not all of the memories are what I'd call "positive," but all of the memories are tinged with love. Sometimes forgiveness is needed, and it's always given unconditionally. If all the world loved like the Robertsons we'd be much happier! I also really enjoyed the intergenerational relationships. The bond between Phil and his grandkids is just as strong as his bond with his sons, or his wife or brother.
Ducks: Every chapter closes with a recipe. Not surprisingly, most of them involve duck. I'm not a hunter and not sure if I can find duck at my local grocery store, but I might try the (meatless) mac-n-cheese recipe!
I got this book from my library, but it was so good we're buying a copy for our personal collection. If that's not an endorsement I don't know what is!

My love of Duck Dynasty has proven to be the biggest surprise of 2013. Seriously. There is no way that I could've predicted my love for this show and this family. In a world starved for TV shows and books about family, faith and values...the Robertson family delivers. I love who they are...I love what they stand for...I love that they wear their faith brightly and for the world to see. I absolutely love it. The TV show shows them at their most zany but I have since watched many interviews with them as they talk about their lives and their ministry and their zany side is only one facet of who they are. I found the book and their background interesting. They always leave me wanting to know more about them. I like that.
I liked the behind-the-scenes look at the Robertson family. I liked learning more about their history and family dynamics. Their story is told from both the perspectives of Willie and Korie...it flip flops back and forth. I like Korie but I wasn't all that interested in her side of the family (who we've never even seen on Duck Dynasty). I just kept wanting to hear more about what Willie had to say.
I loved the good solid family values that were expressed throughout the book, the scriptures that were shared, the glory given to God, and I love that they don't take themselves so seriously. I especially loved that they didn't gloss over the past and the problems they went through with Phil. It was brutally honest and yet the focus was on forgiveness and second chances. Love that!!
There aren't many influences for good in the media these days. I love that the Robertsons are a wonderful spiritually based family and that kids (and America) are watching and reading!! There is something very refreshing about the Robertsons. I root for them and their continued success and family unity.

I think most of the reviews before me said it best - this is a book for people who like the show, and the people on the show. It's built of anecdotes from Willie Robertson's life, including some of Phil and Kay's history. In the beginning his wife, Korie, gets a few chapters, then she just interjects in Willie's chapters as the book progresses. Overall, it is a light-hearted read that strives in every way to show everything in the best possible light. I'm sure a lot of drama got glossed over in Willie's re-telling of his takeover of Duck Commander, but I think that's in keeping with the tone of the show and the book. One thing that I do have to commend this book for, which I think is missing from a lot of "how I became a success in business" stories, is that Willie and Korie don't make any attempt to hide how much help they got from their families their whole lives. I guess since it is in the title they couldn't really skip that part, but a lot of these types of stories want to highlight the did-it-on-my-own aspect of running a small business. I don't think it makes this story any less a success story because they admit they got advice, loans, and jobs from their family in order to make the business grow.

If you love the Robertsons and all their unique personalities, you will enjoy this book. It's a great read for any DD fans wanting to know more about what it was like growing up with Phil Robertson as your dad. I enjoyed this book and devoured it quickly. I know it was written by Willie and Korie, so most of the focus is on them which is fine. But for me personally, Jase is my favorite Robertson and I would have liked to learn a little bit more about him than was included. Also there isn't much mention of Uncle Si until the end when many of my most pressing questions about him were answered. Doesn't everyone want to know if he has a wife and kids? Yes and yes. :-)
I loved the focus on God throughout the book. One of my favorite things about this family is their love for and their focus on God first. I think it shows in their success and in their relationships with one another. There are almost no examples of this on tv anymore, and I love that about Duck Dynasty.
If you laugh til your sides ache when you watch DD and you are always left wanting to know more about this family, this is a great book!

The Duck Commander Family ; How Faith, Family, and Ducks built a dynasty,. This book is about a family who starts out poor and troubled, and find their way to riches and fame. But they didn't just stumble into fame, they worked hard for it. The main characters are ; Phil (dad), Kay( mom), Willie(son of Phil and Kay) , Jason (son of Phil and Kay), Jep (son of Phil and Kay), Korie (Willies wife), Also Jase’s wife, Willie and Kories kids etc. The Family started out poor and barely getting by, when Phil had the idea to start making duck calls and selling them. The business had its problems and at first wasn't going too well. The family started the business and it is still a family business today. Willie ( Phil and Kay’s son) ended up being the CEO of Duck commander. The family partnered up with other businesses and started selling their duck calls in large quantities. It took a long time , but with hard work came success for the Robertson family. Also they are very religious and uphold good values. Their business is very successful today, and they even have their own TV show called Duck Dynasty. The book was great , and i loved every bit of it!

I was not sure what to expect when I started to read this book. Autobiographies are a hit or miss and I wanted this book to be really good! It was not good, it was great! The book was well-written and perfectly organized by different stages in the history of the Robertson family. You will learn so much about the family. They don't leave any rocks unturned either. You learn that they don't see themselves as celebrities, but as ordinary people like you and I. You will also see so much of yourself in their stories. Also included are family recipes and their favorite Bible verses. This is one book you will not forget. Whether you have seen Duck Dynasty or not, this book is a must read for all ages.

Korie and Willie Robertson have written a feel-good, syrupy tribute to their family success at both running a business and maintaining strong family relationships. THE DUCK COMMANDER FAMILY is not momentous or literary, but it’s honest and uncovers some history we might not know about.
The book is a blueprint for those who have watched the hit TV series and wondered how such nonsensical antics translate into a multimillion dollar business. Strength in faith and family unity is the key. Willie and Korie make no apology for this simple approach to life.
The book is not a classic and is full of self-congratulation and repetitive dictum. It’s apparent that a tape recorder and a ghost writer put the book together. Name dropping is rampant, as is the tendency to downplay the seriousness of certain transgressions. But the tone is pleasant and the theme is important: In order to get to a safe place in life, get along with others and form strong bonds.
I can’t give the book itself five stars based on writing merit. All I can say is that I liked it. The Robertson family, though, is certainly all-star and deserves admiration for its accomplishments.

If you are a Duck Dynasty fan, it is a must. If you are not, I am not sure if you would like it. I loved the way it was written. Made me laugh. Loved hearing the back story of how Duck Commander came to be and the stories of when the guys were kids. The book makes me want to watch the series again.

I confess that I have not seen their show. But I've certainly heard of it! I think everybody and their brother has. I've been curious about it, so I figured maybe a look into their family life might be interesting. I was right! It begins from both Willie and Korie's childhood and continues until present day. The Robertson family has certainly had it's fair share of ups and downs. I really enjoyed hearing about their adventurous beginnings. Because adventurous they were!
When hunting is more than a sport, when shooting that duck means you'll have meat for supper tonight and missing means you won't, you get pretty good at it. And these Robertson boys are hunters in every sense of the word. I don't think there's a single animal they haven't shot or eaten. It's quite obviously in their blood and they can't imagine life without it. Not being a hunter myself, I could still understand the need to have food on the table and if you can have fun while getting it there, then all the better. ;) Willie and Korie aren't afraid to talk about the struggles they've had and the mistakes they've made either, yet the obvious love and respect they have for Phil and Kay shone through every word. The Robertson's are a family that refuse to stop dreaming and still keep each other grounded at the same time. Life wasn't always easy for them, especially in the early days, but it's a testament to Phil and Kay that their family has stuck together no matter what.
Listening to Willie and Korie talk about their lives made me feel like I was right there involved and part of the family. That was definitely the fun part of them reading their own story for the audiobook. Plus hearing their southern accents made me feel like I was back home again! :D The downside though, is they tend to sound monotone sometimes. The book could have used a little tighter editing also. There were several moments that felt choppy and some repetitiveness that could have been eliminated. And while I do believe that their faith in God is a big part of their life (and I'm absolutely thrilled that they want to talk about it!), they repeatedly mentioned it so often that it started feeling slightly forced by the end of the book. Like they felt they had to add it in there to appeal to a certain audience or something.
But don't let that discourage you. While it's not perfect, this was easily a fun way to be entertained. Life is never dull down in Louisiana! And you get to hear all about the family with the beards and the duck calls. ;) Sharing their hearts as well as lots of recipes and funny stories, they make you feel like you could pull into their driveway unexpectedly and they'd immediately open their doors and invite you in. Then they wouldn't let you leave until you'd been thoroughly filled with Kay's or Willie's cooking and with loads of stories filling your head. A happy thought indeed. :)

The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family, and Ducks Built a Dynasty, by Willie and Korie Robertson, truly gave me an insightful view in to the life of the Duck Commander family. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of their show ¨Duck Dynasty¨. You may not know it by looking at them, but the group duck slayers is actually a very spiritually based family. Willy and Korie stress throughout the book about the importance of staying strong in one´s faith, and that you should always be thankful for what God has given you. This book was also written around an interesting topic: food. Every Chapter has a different food for which it is named and structured. Whether it is about duck wraps or fried fish, the food encompasses everything in the chapter perfectly; not to mention, there is a recipe to go with each chapter! A key point of this book for me was the second viewpoint of Korie Robertson, the wife of Willie. Normally in one’s biography, it contains their viewpoints and thoughts only; however, in this book, Korie often times chimes in to voice her viewpoints too. With this new way of seeing things, we don’t just see Willie’s side of the story, we see Korie’s perspective too. It added a whole other aspect to the book that I really enjoyed. We also hear about Willy’s other brother who is not on the show, and how all the Robertson kids were raised. The stories of their youth seem improbable, and often times they had little to no supervision. Willie even said that the things they did as kids, “would make me cringe as a parent today.”

The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family, and Ducks Built a Dynasty, by Willie and Korie Robertson, truly gave me an insightful view in to the life of the Duck Commander family. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of their show ¨Duck Dynasty¨. You may not know it by looking at them, but the group duck slayers is actually a very spiritually based family. Willy and Korie stress throughout the book about the importance of staying strong in one´s faith, and that you should always be thankful for what God has given you. Okay, so it is not most thrilling prose in the world, and I read the entire book in just a tad under 4 hours, but I have to admit I enjoyed every minute of it. I know these folks, intimately, oh not the actual people in the Robertson family as shown on Duck Dynasty, but my husband's parents, his sisters, his brother, his aunts, uncles and the whole passel of "twice related on your mama's side" relatives that come along with them.
There is something infinitely comforting in reading of folks who think like my husband and I do, who have the same basic values we do, who make no issue of working hard, paying their bills, playing hard, making "stuff" stretch till it falls apart rather than go into debt to get "stuff." I think there is a special sense of self-worth that comes of successfully taking the bad and the good without having all sorts of nervous hissy fits along with it. I think that all comes through in this book. I appreciate that they are not afraid of showing everyone how they sit down to family dinners, the whole extended mess of them, and offer a prayer before eating ... just like my mother and
father-in- law did every single year of their 70 years together:) I enjoyed that they do not mind telling us that their family is so intimately involved in their respective churches in so many different ways. I enjoy seeing that kind of self confidence. Reading this story makes me oh, so grateful, that I married into a family just like that, and for that reason alone I would say it is a successful book :)

My kids and I enjoy watching Duck Dynasty on A&E. Especially my 13-year-old son. So, when I saw this book sitting on the shelf of my local Barnes & Noble... I just had to buy it!
"The Duck Commander Family" by Willie & Korie Robertson is a fun read about the life of the Robertson family. If you're a fan of the show, you'll love reading about the early days of Duck Commander and how it's progressed to where it is today. They did it with a lot of hard work and a lot of faith. And God has blessed them for their diligence.
I was truly impressed with the devotion the Robertson family has to one another and to their family business. Clearly it comes from being rooted and grounded in a firm faith in God. The Bible says that "man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7) And the Robertson family has a heart for God. Phil and Kay have raised their family to have a firm foundation in the Lord, and they demonstrate their love of God in the way they live their lives.
You'll get to know them a little better with stories from Willie and Korie. You may even bump your cooking skills up a notch with the recipes found in the book. :)
This one's a fun read! You're gonna love it!

Written by one of those bearded duck guys, Willie Robertson, and his wife (Kori), this book tells the success story from their perspective. The Robertson family's success is much more than their 15 minutes of fame.
Phil, the Robertson family patriarch, conferred the CEO position on his son, Willie. Willie describes the efficiencies and changes he attempted to effect despite the negative feedback from many valued customers. Kori came to the defense of her husband by writing and posting a message on the Duck Commander website, calming those vocal customers.
Through Willie's hard work and added contacts, Duck Commander grew to include Buck Commander, more products, and the popular TV show.
Willie and Kori also discuss their faith and the family values that hold everything together.
This book illustrates what it takes to begin with a very small company and build it into a thriving successful company. It requires a vision and the inner grit to risk it all by making the changes and following through even when you might feel like clocking out at 5 pm.
Most of us are just willing to go to our jobs day after day and complain about our bosses/job situation. Willie knew what he could do and he did it, even when it required putting normalcy and comfort on hold and jumping on a plane to connect with people that would enable him to build his dream.

I was given this book for Christmas by my father-in-law, who fancies himself a little like Phil Robertson. my mother-in-law giggled sort of apologetically when I opened the present, explaining that her husband chose it for me. I like the show, and find it entertaining, but I'm not a "fan" in the traditional sense, and I think she knew that this book is not really my style. I actually asked my husband if I should even read it at all, but I am glad that I gave it a chance.
The narrative is mostly written by Willie, but occasionally Korrie inserts her two cents about the story. Reading it is sort of like having a conversation with Willie, and occasionally his wife pops in to insert her perspective, but he wrote 90% of it. I'd give the writing 2 stars, of course- just not my style of storytelling, as I stated before. Still, I bump up the overall rating because the Robertson family story itself was encouraging, and in ways God knew I needed!

When I first watched the TV show Duck Dynasty, I thought it was silly, but as I watched a few more episodes, I began to appreciate the values being portrayed in this reality show. My husband really laughed watching it, and I became a fan, too. So I ordered this book for us to learn more about the Robertson family. After reading it, I can say that I really admire the values of this family. I like their motto of family first, and family, faith, and other virtues. I enjoyed the down to earth story telling of Korie and Willie Robertson in this book. They didn't cover up the negative parts of their lives, but told it like it is. They give all the credit to their success in life to God. They live by what they believe; they read, study, and live the teachings in the Bible. I like the parenting skills they use in their home, and the respect they have for each other in their marriage and their marriage advise, too I highlighted a lot of quotes and thoughts of Korie an Willie as I read; they are gems of wisdom. I will remember and live by a lot of the ideals they shared.

Duck Commander fans will enjoy these easy read and learn more about the entire Robertson family as well as a few of their recipes. As a fan, I did enjoy learning more, the section of pictures, and the back and forth style of writing between Willie and Korie. But while the stories were entertaining and felt more like a chat between friends than reading a book (both good things, in my opinion), I felt like tying each chapter up to fit the recipe theme made it feel a bit like a collection of high school essays. The first few were kind of cute but by the end of the book, it was overkill. The only other thing I wanted to comment on is not a big one, but felt odd. Willie usually only calls his parents by their names and does throughout most of the book, until the last chapter. Then, all of a sudden, he's using "mom" and "dad." Like I said, a small thing, but something that struck me. I'm curious for the reasoning behind that. Overall, I would recommend this to fans of the show, the company, or the larger than life personalities of the Robertson family.

As a new fan of the Duck Dynasty show on television, I was excited to buy a copy of Duck Commander Family because I wanted to know more about the Robertson clan. This book definitely did not disappoint me. It’s well written, honest and very entertaining.
I loved the fact that Duck Commander Family is written from the points of view of both Willie and his wife Korie. There is definitely a difference in the way they were both raised as children, so to get the two perspectives enhances the reality of the book. Willie, a “redneck” country boy, was raised with a lot less money than Korie, who is a self-proclaimed city girl. So when the two get together, it’s fun to see the dynamics of clashing cultures.

3.5 stars. Quick read, I enjoyed it. Not sure if one would like very much if you didn't like the show. Definitely emphasizes the family's faith and close ties, which was nice. Virtually everyone who works for Duck Commander is family, an old friend, or has some family connection. Theirs is truly a story of a small family business that has now exploded to the mainstream. I liked learning more about Willie and Korie's relationship from the start and their kids. The family pictures are great. Willie was SO cute when he was a teenager/in his 20's. I would love to see what he looks like now underneath all that hair/beard.

Ok I'm a fan, so maybe I'm a bit bias but I really love this family. The word that keeps surfacing as I read about them (or watch the show) is "real". How do I mean that in this context? Yeah, they tell the good and the bad, that's part of it. But what gives them the depth and I believe is part of their mass appeal is they are comfortable with who they really are and they are happy to share that with you.
This is not great literature, it's great conversation. It's inspirational but only in the sense that they show us a life that we can all obtain with faith, hard work and love.

I resisted the whole Duck Dynasty thing for a long time thinking it was just a gimmick redneck show. My family really wanted me to watch it with them and it turned into a fun family activity for us. I was hooked after about 3 episodes and I really liked it. It was funny, and I liked that it promoted a family dinner and prayer at the end. I wanted to know more about the Robertson's and their background so I read this book. It was enjoyable and I loved how they give all the credit for their success to God.

This book is different than the other two because it reflects more on the Robertson family as a whole instead of stories being told by an individual perspective. It really goes in-depth on the family, like sharing how Phil's boys grew up. It also has pieces of Korie's growing up years and what was different about her family and Willie's.
This book was interesting, don't get me wrong, but there were some things that I didn't really like. The book didn't really have any exciting parts. It was kind of a long, dull read. Over all it was a Good book.

If you love this show like I do, then you'll certainly enjoy the book. It only goes a little into the actual show, but it does give a good background of most of the family and how they got into the business and how they developed their strengths. More refreshingly, they attribute all their success to God and the blessings He has bestowed upon them. The book drives home a lot of great points, such as the importance of faith, family and forgiveness. Fun read for the Duck Dynasty fans.
