3.5-4 stars...

A short Christmas romance with a grumpy hero, a precocious orphan girl, and a loving "governess" that ties them all together. This sweet novella moves at lightning pace due to its length I guess. Nevertheless, I loved the change of hearts that occurred and the patience that allowed it to happen. I hope Noelle, Brigitte, Eric & Fuzzy live happily ever after!!

My first Andrea Kane book. Would read others by her.

A short "steamy" scene is included towards middle of book.

Set in a village and manor in Victorian England, our story begins in October with unruly, defiant, four-year-old Noelle being returned to her uncle, the earl, who has isolated himself at his estate for the past five years. Farming Noelle out to the local villagers has proven unsuccessful, and now the earl must seek a new solution to the care of his niece, orphaned at the age of six weeks. Eric appeals to the local vicar to find him a governess, just at the time that the vicar's granddaughter, Brigitte, returns home. Noelle, Eric, and Brigitte are thrown together in an unusual arrangement. Naturally, secrets are revealed to explain the current situation.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella, especially the author's style of writing. She creates the voice of all three characters in a charming and believable way. Noelle is a pure joy of stubborn, precocious curiosity. The story unfolded in a convincing manner. I could only have wished for it to be longer.

I enjoyed this short story which is not my normal genre.
It is definitely a feel good story and maybe a predictable but sometimes that's just what works for a reader.
I wouldn't read this type of book all the time but made an enjoyable change.

Four-year-old Noelle is a handful. Such a handful in fact, no family in the county wants to raise her and they keep returning her to her embittered uncle, until one day he snaps and decides to acquire a live-in governess for the girl. And he's adamant in accomplishing his goal, even if it means he has to marry the unsuspecting "victim".

This was a story about a spoiled brat of a child in need of a good thrashing, a brooding hero in need of a good smack on the head with a shovel, and a saint of a heroine that heals them both with her love and brings all of them together as a family just in time for the holidays.

It made my teeth ache with all the sugar, but it accomplished its goal of making me go "awww" in the end.

It was definitely too short, making the plot appear hole-y. The characters never really got the chance to shone through and this severe underdeveloped failed in making me know them and empathize with them, which caused huge disbelief in how easily it was all resolved (all thanks to love).

As far as novellas go, I can kind-of, sort-of see myself re-reading this one in the future… at Christmastime when I want something short and sweet. Of course, I would have appreciated this as a longer novel... there was *so* much backstory that it was hard to unpack it all in such a short time. But it has some Beauty and the Beast elements to it, which is one of my favorite tropes.

In "Yuletide Treasure", the reader travels back in time to late autumn of the year 1860. We visit a grand manor house that has been closed off to the world for years, Farrington Manor, in Dorsetshire, makes for an atmospheric holiday read.

A traditional styled historical romance, "Yuletide Treasure" features Lord Eric Farrington, and Brigitte, the woman he marries in order to care for Noelle, his orphaned four-year-old niece.

Since his niece's birth the wealthy Lord Farrington has become a very solitary recluse. He left his little niece with well-meaning villagers and shut himself away in the manor. He takes care of himself as he let all the staff go. After being shunted from family to family, Noelle's behavior has become incorrigible. The last family, at their wit's end, return Noelle to her volatile uncle. Desperate, he tries to hire a governess for the girl, but as he lives alone at the manor, society dictates that he must offer marriage to the governess.

It would seem that the vicar's granddaughter is the answer to his quest. She is not unattractive and she has a charming yet firm grasp on how to handle the naughty Noelle and her constant companion, the stuffed cat she has named "Fuzzy".

Because she has never known parental love, Noelle is a very unhappy little girl. She acts out, striving for attention. With Brigitte, the high-spirited and precocious Noelle has finally met her match.

As the Christmas season approaches, and the weather outside gets colder, things inside Farrington Manor are warming up...

This charming novella is a 'feel-good' historical romance that will be appreciated by all who are fans of the genre.

I purchased the Kindle edition of this novella, guessing that it would be a nice change of pace from my usual diet of thrillers and mysteries.

I got my Christmas romance fix with Yuletide Treasure.

This short novella takes place in Victorian England, so the historical setting is a bonus for me, although it didn't play much of a part in the story.

Eric has been holed up in his manor house for years, seeing no one and going nowhere. He's isolated himself since the death of his sister. He has a niece, Noelle, who is returned to him after short stays with many different people in the village -- and she's a terror. Eric decides he needs a governess, and then is convinced that he needs a wife. Even though his demands for privacy and seclusion are unbelievable, he finds Brigitte to accept his terms. It turns out Brigitte has always been in love with Eric, since she was a little girl.

OK, so you have to roll your eyes, but then get over it. It's unlikely, but Brigitte's handling of Noelle is priceless -- as well as her handling of Eric. It's definitely a "happily ever after" story, but that's what I was after.

I could have stayed with these characters a little longer. The novella is only 90 pages, so things must happen very quickly. Eric's transformation is, shall we say, astounding?

On the other hand, it's not a huge investment, gave me warm fuzzies, and ended with a Christmas celebration. So, if that's what you are looking for, you can't go wrong with Yuletide Treasure.

From my blog

Andrea Kane can do no wrong in my eyes, she has proven she deserves the place of my favourite author. I came across her suspense novels 3 years ago and have loved every one. I am still working my way through her back list. Well this gem was announced to release as an ebook and I knew I wanted to try her holiday story.

This is not a suspense holiday read but an adult fiction, historical romance. Andrea Kane is talented, she writes suspense, romance and historical fiction, I am so impressed.

This is a charming read I highly recommend. The feel of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett mixed into one. I loved both of those as much as this one. I would have loved for it to be a full story but the short story was also perfect.

The characters attach to your heart and the lovely little Noelle adds a lovely touch for a 4 year old girl. I would love to read more of these characters.

What is the meaning of life? All the characters, young and old, figure this out.

Readers will be enchanted by the story of dark and brooding young recluse, Lord Eric Farthington, and what happens when his search for a governess for his niece results in a woman who proves to be far more than he or his wounded heart could have ever dreamed.

The story found within the scant 80 pages of this read is full to the brim with humor, romance, loss, love, and redemption.
Noelle Farthington, will capture your heart with her precocious wit and delightful humor. It is often hard to believe that she is only 4. Eric is the perfect tortured soul. A man consumed by the mistakes of his and unable to see the joy in his future. Add to this mix the spirit, fire and sheer joy that is embodied by one young Miss Brigitte Curran. Can she smooth the rough edges of her rowdy young charge? Is she the Christmas miracle of Eric's most secret wish?

Noelle is three going on four and she's a constant reminder to her Uncle of the sister he once loved and lost. Angry and full of self-loathing the Eric can't bring himself to take car of Noelle and instead sends her to live with every family he can find in the parish.

The things is Noelle is "spirited" and has been returned to Eric repeatedly. He's all but exhausted every avenue he has to ensure he doesn't have to deal with the child that reminds him of everything he's loved and lost.

Noelle is a highly mischievous child but one who clearly acts out to get the attentions she's been denied for her entire life.

Enter Brigitte, our heroine, who can see through Eric's anger and refusal to be part of Noelle's life and Noelle's antics for the cry for love it is.

Brigitte not only connects with Noelle but brings love, hope and Christmas to a little girl who has never had any.

This story was short, simple but profoundly beautiful. I would read this again.

I've heard you should read The Last Duke and The Theft as they are all tied together.

Very nice, although the 4 year old girl is not quite believable as a 4 year old. She's adorable, but written too mature for 4.
