There isn't even a cover for this book on Goodreads, and yet . . . there are no words for this book.

This was the perfect ending to a series. Book 4: THE VOID OF MIST AND THUNDER was definitely . . . genius. Everything about it was just so . . . SMART. I definitely give this book a 5/5 stars. This series has been near and dear to my heart since I was 10. I'm almost 15 years old now. Yeah. Books. That's the magic of them.

James Dashner, you are a god, and for your books, I give you an A for effort. And also an A for the Awesome Ending of VOID. You are The Man!

This book...was amazing. I read it in 13 hours during one video chat with some breaks in between. I wish I could have savored this final installment in the series that literally changed my life, but it was so good I couldn't stop reading it.

Wow. This book was amazing.

Just wow.

This book was originally meant to be two books, but Dashner made a good move and combined them into one. I can see how. The middle of that book was so...climatic. And the end of that book was so...climatic. It was incredible. It was so good.

Knowing Dashner, I knew one of my favorite characters was going to die in the end. Yeah, that happened. I didn't cry over it, though. It was a calm death.

That ending.

Holy flipping crap.

That ending...

That is the best ending to a book there could ever be.

The void of Mist and Thunder, by James Dashner, well the series is about a boy named Atticus, but he likes to be called Tick. He goes on adventures and journeys. My favorite parts of this book is when Tick becomes really epic. I recommend this book for people who like intensity and action.

This book was a bit dull. I didn't like it too much because the plot was slow and it was more childish than the other 3 books. Atticus has to save the world with his new "powers''. His friends helping him along he sacrifices everything to save everything he ever knew. It was interesting enough to read with some chapters being page-turners while other not so much. I would recommend this to some younger readers who would enjoy this novel more. I give it 2 out of 5 rating because this book wasn't as appealing as others I've read that are better.

I was scared about the ending since I really wasn't wild about the ending of Dashner's Maze Runner series, but, man, this ending was perfect.

Read this series.

What is a finally if not for its origin? What is a beginning if not for it's ending?
If there is a disappointing beginning it is redeemed by an exciting well played ending (people like improvement).
But if a story has an exciting beginning what does that beginning mean if there is a poor played ending?

I loved the first book!
The second book was REALLY good! I loved it too!
The third book was a bit unsophisticated, de-moralized, and unfulfilling... but! I was willing to hope for the last book to being redemption.

This was the last book. And it did not deliver. In the second book the author reveals an exciting side of our villain, and you want to learn more about her, but it is cut short.

The next book had no reveille, but it ended with the hero and the beloved villain stuck together in a place were they can do some serious hear to heart,
....
but.....
they.........
don't..................

The whole four and final book felt like there was no surprise, no reveal, and no satisfaction.

It was an end.

I loved this book, i finished reading it at 2 in the morning because i just couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved the ending - a complete surprise what happens to Tick. However i feel the new addition of Karma wasn't fully explained, I would have liked to know more about that.

Normally I'm okay with books being descriptive in a way where you get the looks of a place or thing described to you from a few different perspectives but I couldn't take it in this book. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that the 'evil' characters had no common sense or morals and most of the time I just wanted them to shut up or for Atticus to take their mouths off or something.

At least the people I wanted to die all did. I think everyone wanted Chu and Jane dead, but while I really wanted them to die, I was really hoping 'Master' George would bite the dust. Thankfully he did. I liked him alright in the first book which he wasn't really in, but I hate it when people withhold information from people. A good example from this book is with Tick and the soulikins he got from his alternates, you can't even say he didn't have time to tell him. He could have told him before or While Sato was investigating, or near the end when they all wink to their base at the Grand Canyon. This may seem like a small bit of information, but the series is all about understanding the why's and how's of what's happening and this may seem small in comparison to everything they go through but it's a big thing to Tick. George, what's Tick to trust him but why should he when he never tells them anything? Why when he tells him that he can't go home only to have him sit around when he could have already been home and back. I would have done the same as Tick, but I wouldn't have waited to do it. I mean what was George going to do fire him? He is one of the only two people that could control Chi'karda as well, he wouldn't have let Tick go easily. The fact that he played the victim when Tick 'deserted' them also made me sick.

Yeah, I really haven't liked this guy since book 2 so sorry but I needed to rant a little. Honestly, all the adults in this series need to grow up.

On an ending note, I listened to the audiobooks for this series to make finishing it easier because I haven't had the time to read.

p.s. I was very tired of this book around halfway through and listened to it at x3 speed. I have a headache but at least I finished it. I wanted to DNF it honestly but I had already gone so far, I was going to finish it.

The book, Void of Mist and Thunder by James Dashner was a very enticing way to end off the series. As a reader, this series was never incredibly interesting to me, however, I was always so intrigued by the story line that I just had to finish it. I enjoyed the dynamic character of Tick, who goes from being a whiny little kid (my personal opinion), to becoming a selfless boy, willing to sacrifice himself for the lives of others. I really enjoyed the fact that this book was not revolving around Tick, but rather those close to him. I enjoyed the character changes in them, too. Those, along with the very interesting and bizzare storyline completed the series very well, and made this book my favorite in the series.

My favorite character in this book is probably Sato. Although some of his moments are cheesy, I really enjoyed watching him grow throughout the series. The fact that he went from trusting no one to leading an army really meant a lot to the series. I especially enjoyed how stoic he remained throughout the entirety of the story, and his ability have enough a presence to lead his army without question. The fact that they win every one of their battles under his rule fortifies my enjoyment of his character.

My favorite quote from the book is probably, " A cellphone would be magic if you showed it to someone one-hundred years ago" - Lisa, Ticks sister. I don't know why this is my favorite. I just really enjoy her understanding of the world, and the fact that she is blassed with things that people would have never dreamed about century ago. That just really sticks out to me.

As I read, I noticed many interesting structural elements, if not those just description. During the beginning of the book, it describes Tick's journey from the Nonex to the real world. The way that James Dasher describes the Fourth Dimension is so confusing, but perfectly fitting. Nothing makes sence, but that makes it perfect. That really stuck out to me how he was able to outline the overall idea of the Fourth Dimension-which is the biggest idea throughout the whole book- in just a few, brilliantly written chapters.

Honestly, this one was just awkward.

First of all, the relationship between some of the characters is almost TOO perfect. Take, for example, Tick's family, particularly his mom, Lorena, and his sister, Lisa. I think Lisa was sixteen (correct me if I'm wrong), just so you know. Here's a typical conversation between the two of them:
Lisa: Mom, I'm scared.
Lorena: I know, baby. It's going to be alright.
Lisa: Where's Tick, anyway?
Lorena: I don't know, sweetheart. All I know is, we're going to find him as sure as there'es a nose on my face!
Lisa: You're right, Mom! You're the best.
Lorena: I know.
Lisa: Mom!

...So, yeah. What sixteen year old likes to be called "baby" or "sweetheart"? To add onto that, every time Tick sees his mom do anything, he's just like, "Wow, my mom sure is a brave lady!" Yes, lady, not woman.

Second, the dialogue is just strange.

Third, the names that Dashner comes up with are just bad. For example, there's a group of women (this isn't a spoiler; it's introduced in, like, the fifth chapter) who are basically followers of Mistress Jane. Their name? The Ladies (again with ladies/lady instead of women/woman) of Blood and Sorrow. Also, there's a character named Tollaseat. No joke. I literally cringed each time I read it. Granted, he comes from a world where everyone's name from objects, but still. Tollaseat?

Fourth, the ending left me unsatisfied. There are so many things that I'm still wondering why it was so, but not in a good way.

All in all, I would say that this book is for middle schoolers or elementary kids.

Oh, wow! I can't even express how great that ending was. This book was insanely action-packed. I felt like there wasn't really any slow-going scenes to catch my breath. I really, really liked this book because it had fantastic action scenes, my favorite characters- Sato, Paul, and Sofia- had more scenes, and the story ended perfectly.

Although, I do have a few complaints. Master George is probably my least favorite character throughout this whole series. I always found him annoying and repetitive. For example, he always, always has to say, "Goodness, gracious me". I sometimes thought that he could be gay but Dashner didn't really clarify on that characteristic. So, we're stuck with a british-like character who is too flamboyant and out-of-this-world weird.

On to my next complaint! The antagonists - Reginald Chu and Mistress Jane - became boring. They both kept spouting that they either wanted a Utopia or to rule all of the Realities by any means necessary. In each book it was like this. A good evil character does something wildly unexpected and devious to keep the protagonist on their toes. But neither of these characters did that. They were super cliché and overall annoying to read about.

Thirdly, although it was action-packed, I sometimes found myself lost or uninterested in the story. Unlike in the previous books, I just really didn't care about the story itself. I kept daydreaming, which lead to reading sentences over and over to get on with the plot.

But overall, I really did like this book! Don't get me wrong, the story was great and the ending was crazy! This is just my personal opinion, and my reasons for having trouble getting through this book. But this series was really, really fun to read. I just don't love it enough to buy it.

Why someone always has to die?!! Like... Okay first, let me complaint about Tick's character... I was always hoping Tick, as the main character won't be too stubborn... I mean I know he did the right things... Following his guys but sometimes I feel like he's losing his old self... The loving, obedient, humble Tick... And that makes me feel like Reginald Chu and Mistress Jane were right about what he's going to be... Other than that, Tick is a wonderful person...
•••••
Here we go on Master George 💔💔💔. Honestly, I really like him... Maybe at last he becomes a bit harsh or emotional but he had to do that for me... He deserved the respects from everyone... He's a good leader and if I have to work with him, I will give my full respect to him... He's being a considerate leader... Listen to everyone's opinions... Bear with the Realitants' attitudes... It's such a hard thing to handle people but he did well... And he still consider Tick as his favorite...
•••••
Rutger!!! Nothing much I want to say about him but he's just too cute!!!
•••••
Sato is probably my fav in this book 4... I mean he has the leadership skill... And he is also stubborn and rude sometimes but he never complaint whenever Master George gives him tasks even though he felt like it's a ridiculous task... He's obedient enough for me...
•••••
A bit disappointed that Mistress Jane couldn't build her Utopia... I wish she could be a good person... Idk... I feel like she's being a villain for some good reasons... At least, let Tick build the Utopia for her...

“The Thirteenth Reality (The Void of Mist and Thunder)” by James Dashner is a book where there are different realities meaning that there are the same people and worlds that have split of from huge decisions. When a major change happens it creates a different reality. Smaller decisions makes smaller realities that eventually die. In this book they are joining together with their biggest enemy to try to fix the unstable worlds and battle with the foe, Karma. I absolutely love this book from the time I picked it up to the time I finished it, and still do. I had such a hard time putting it down because it was so so good. I read whenever I got the chance and even when I probably should have been doing other things. This is one of the few books I was truly sad that it ended because I almost got so attached to the characters that I felt like they were real. I felt like I was friends with them and felt like I could relate to them so good. The characters had such a detailed description even being weirdly shaped and sometimes weird personalities the author really gives you a good idea of what they are supposed to look like. Another thing I really liked about this book is that it is so long. The whole series is only like 1000 pages and this book is about 250 pages. This is one of my favorite books of all time and would love to read the book over and over again. The theme of this book is to fight for the greater good to benefit not only yourself but also other people.

Again the paperback version is not shown on this website. The ISBN is 9781742998398.
Tick, Mistress Jane and Reginald Chu are stuck in the Nonex. They finally manage to escape but Chu is still machinating to take over all the Realities and Mistress Jane who is only slightly less evil, still wants her Utopian Reality - which is still just as unreal as you can get.
Although we still have lots of action, we are now confronted with another sort of threat from a type of Reality called the Void of Mist and Thunder which while not a sentient being, seems to behave in a manner as if it was, seeking to wreak havoc and mayhem on all the other Realities.
All in all, though, I didn't like this final showdown. It has departed from pure science like fiction and bordered on theological notions again - we even get introduced to Karma! Also, I didn't like the ending. One of the main characters dies and what happens to Tick is just so....screwy?...I just wanted him to return as a normal boy - I won't spoil things by saying what he has become but I felt terribly flat and let down at the end of this series - the first two books got things going but the last two got too weird and I would not recommend them to be read by children under the age of 12 at least.

Atticus “Tick” Higginbottom finds himself facing the biggest challenge of his life, knowing what is at stake. Along with his new friends, Sofia, Paul, Sato, and all of the other Realitants, they try to fight the newest threat to the realities with all of the strength they have before it’s too late… The 13th Reality series has quickly become one of my favorite series for its use of witty banter, mind-puzzling riddles, and the use of real-world science to completely encase you in the series and keep you reading to the end. The way the characters grow and develop shows how they would act in real life if they were to exist and just makes you love them even more. One thing that I disliked about the last 2 books in the series is how some of the sections were stretched longer than I would’ve liked them to be. Other than that, I think this is an extraordinary book and a wonderfully written series altogether.

Here we have the exciting conclusion to The Thirteenth Realities series, Atticus Higginbottom (a.k.a. Tick) disappeared without a trace to a place where none can return from. Trapped Tick must ally with his bitterest of enemies in order to escape. Meanwhile the Realitants while searching for tick, they have terrible crisis to deal with in the form of a storm that’s brewing, a void of mist and thunder.

This book is benign and a nice break from the five attributes of YA books, except for violence that occurs with lots of battles and conflict. If you’re a smart kid, can laugh at humor, cry in the face of suffering and rejoice at sweet victories, Id give this book a read. I mostly read this to finish the series and then let my sweetie read it next. As far as a class is concerned, this book rings of older middle school and it relates with kids who struggle despite being in an ideal family.

[The Void of Mist and Thunder (The 13th Reality #4) - James Dashner]

Rating: +∞/5.00

"I have been genuinely speechless by how exceptional the last entry of this four-part series is, that a five-out-of-five stars rating does not do this book justice. I love how no matter the plot twists and turns, it does not reduce the overall quality of the story. Instead, it escalates my excitement to pick up this book every morning more and more.

All I can say to end this review is that I have mad respect for James Dashner for releasing back-to-back-to-back-to-back pieces of literary perfection. I highly recommend all bookworms and casual readers out there to give the four books in The 13th Reality series a serious read."

Honestly, unless people are determined to finish the series (as I was) I wouldn't even bother with this book. Increasingly it had been "the author is just throwing random things together on the fly" and that is even more obvious in this book. It was just - random, kinda dumb, maybe a little cliche. Now, don't get me wrong, that can work. It all depends on the characters.

These characters were not strong enough to hold the story up. If you took out the plot, they would not be interesting or multi-dimensional.

So - start of the series: good! Rest of the series: please let me pretend you don't exist.

This book takes place in a forest when a boy and his grandpa are looking for the source of a big sound and then they see a rip in the reality and in it is Mistress Jane and Tick trapped in the Nonex. Then Tick, Mistress Jane, and Reginald Chu have to escape the nonex before it destroys itself. Then Tick rips apart the 4th dimension and it lets the void of mist and thunder get threw to the 13 reality and then will destroy the universe. I would recommend this book to a friend because it is absolutely amazing and it is very exciting.

This book was amazing. The ending was just insane. Atticus and the witch faced off in the end, completely destroying all of the reality except for the first dimension. The thirteenth dimension turned into a void, and Chaka-Ra was completely destroyed (Or so we think). "Good will come in the end. Never let the Chaka-Ra take control of you. Always stay in control. Page 245" I thought this quote was cool because he described Atticus, and also somewhat explained what had happened to the witch.

Wow. Just finished this book. It was long and I think that made it hard in places - lots of viewpoints, lots of stories. Weird ending to get my head round but I think it fit actually. Glad I read it as it was a different book completely to many others I have read so I enjoyed it but yes, strange ending.

Excellent, excellent book, but it was LONG. Blame college or impatience with the story, but it took me forever. Loved the ending though, because while it was painful (someone dies), it still was...not happy, but satisfactory. Like, it ended well. That's all I'm gonna say. Excellent plot, perfect characterization, this was wonderful.

I found the book repetitive, and the ending just dragged. The entire book felt as if it was Jane, Chu and Tick saying the same things over and over again. "You're crazy." "No, I'm not. I'm a visionary." "This can work if you just think about it." Again and again and again. I skipped probably 90% of the book and still feel like it was too long. I really wished I had stopped reading it at book one.

Pretty good but it has intense themes and is more like a triller rather than a sci- fi action book for children. It certainly opens up new possibilities for children as they're learning fifth grade science and all there thinking about is refraction to ace their tests, this a jaw- dropper. I would recommend this to the age group of 13 ++++

I LOVE THE ENDING!!!! Although I was expecting that Sato will be the next one to lead the Realitants. I think he deserves the love more since he has been dedicated to his job and excellently leads the Fifth Army.

Also, it was not quite clear for me on how did Tick had his power over the Chikarda. I hope this series will have a prequel!
