A charming sweet compilation of stories that take place in a small town of Snow Falls Colorado revolving around First Night and the countdown to New Years Eve.

I love small town stories, and these were comforting quick reads that I couldn't help but enjoy. I loved the stories about the residents of Snow Falls and how they kind of ended up being linked in a way through the three short stories.

Winter's Heart by Jillian Hart
In the first one Shelby a widow, makes a move back to Snow Falls with her two children after loosing their houses. She stays with her grandmother while she works helping out in a bakery in the preparation of the First Night. On her way into town, she runs into a cop Ronan Winters, a blast from her past. Ronan has always had a thing for Shelby, the girl who crushed his heart when he was a little boy. Now back in town, Ronan has a hard time keeping away with Shelby, even thought the woman had made it clear that she wasn't looking for love. Adorable story even if it felt like it had a bit of an insta-love in it. I thought it was sweet the way Ronan handled her kids, and hoped to find his way into Shelby's heart.

Snowbound at New Year by Margaret Daley
Children's book author Ellie Summers traveled to Snow Falls to meet with her new illustrator because he cannot get the drawings right. When she climbs up the mountain his house is perched on, a snow storm hits and Ellie finds herself trapped in the house with a man who she was close to firing. Seeing his two daughters, the way he acts with them melts her heart. Also a very cute story, even if the characters started to kind of picture the future together from the first hour spent with each other – I still very much loved it.

A Kiss at Midnight by Brenda Minton
This one has to be my favorite. Jolie and Jake had shared a kiss at midnight a year ago, but Jake is a man her father had once stole from and Jolie had to pay the money back to Jake. Jake is the owner of the Lodge and is gracious enough to display her artwork during the First Night. When Jolie runs into Jake and his niece, she has a hard time forgetting that kiss last year when the little girl so happily wants Jolie to join them for dinner and ice-skating. A touching story, I loved the way Jake took his niece in and took care of her. The only thing I was really confused about is the fact that there was a problem that Jake had to go downstairs to take care of and it was never really expended on, even thought it felt like it was important.

Still, sweet, cute stories that was easy and fun to read. Wonderfully written, that kept me immersed in their lives. I really enjoyed them, as I absolutely love small town books and the way they connect their characters that live in town!

A sweet set of 3 novellas all revolving around a First Night celebration in Snow Falls, Colorado. I think the third (by Brenda Minton) was my favourite. It featured characters that had known each other for a long time, and while the 'scope' of their story was only one day, their backstory made that one day time frame believable. All in all, though, I enjoyed all 3 stories.

Countdown to First Night -Jillian Hart, Margaret Daley & Brenda Minton
This Harlequin Anthology takes place in Snow Falls, Colorado. As the town prepares for First Night, the countdown to New Years, we find our characters in and about town for different reasons. The three authors have done a fantastic job with each story as they take the reader through the snow filled beauty of the mountains during this celebration. You may even catch glimpses of the characters before meeting them in their own stories.

Winter’s Heart By Jillian Hart
Shelby Craig’s life couldn’t get much worse, she hoped. A widow, a mother, no home, no job and her old car was definitely on it’s last days….maybe minutes. At least they made it to Snow Falls where they’d be staying with her granny until she could find a new job. And at least through the First Night Celebration. When she sees her childhood friend, Ronan Winters, it’s like all the years between have vanished. Can these two bruised hearts beat again and find love?

Snowbound At New Year By Margaret Daley
Ellie Summers writes a children’s series. She has come to Snow Falls during the First Night celebrations to meet with her new illustrator and as guest celebrity for the First Night countdown. She ends up gaining much more than she ever expected from her time in the snowy town.

Brody Kincaid is content living on top of the mountain, away from people, and raising his twin girls. He had his one true love and lost her and closed her heart and mind to ever finding love again. He didn’t expect Ellie. Her beautiful attitude and kind heart along with the way she immediately took to the girls. Maybe a second chance is possible after all.

A Kiss At Midnight by Brenda Minton
Jolie Godwin has never felt like she fit in with the other towns people. She always felt that they viewed her as the daughter of Mac Godwin….the man who stole from his wealthy employer and was fired for it. She just couldn’t let the past go and accept that she was making her own way as an artist. If only she could fight her attraction to Jake, the same man her father had stolen from.

Jake Wild was more than just the wealthy owner of the Wildwood Lodge and one of the most sought after bachelor’s. Most women only cared about those things though. Not Jolie. She seemed to do her best not to get close to him. Can these two put their rocky pasts behind them and make a new start on this First Night celebration?

Winter's heart by Jillian Hart

Loved this book. I enjoyed it. Just loved Shelby and Ronan and of course Shelbys children. Her grandmother was great too.

Love the cast of characters and the storylines.

Countdown to First Night by
4 STARS

There is 3 novella s that mainly take place New year Eve in Snow Falls, Colorado-on First Night. The main complaint is I wanted more. All three stories are a clean read. Each one had children being raised by a single parent. Love all the kids and thier joy.
Winter's Heart by Jillian Hart
Shelby Craig is down on her luck. She lost her husband a cop before her second child was born. Now they are almost homeless and she is coming to Snow Falls to stay with her grandma and at least as a few days work for the First night at the bakery in town.
She is almost to her grandmas when she gets a flat tire. A cop pulls her over and she has expired plates.
The cop Deputy Winters recongizes her after a while as the fist girl who broke his heart at 10. He lives next to her grandma house still.

Snowbound at New Year by Margaret Daley
Ellie Summers childrens author has come for the first night festivals from the east coast. She is to open the first night and give a talk, read her book. Really she agreed because she needs to talk to her new illustrator not really working out. If they cant get together on what she wants she will need to find a new one fast.
Ellie decides to meet with him now instead of in a couple of days. She gets directions and travels up the mountain. The weather takes a turn for the worst. She is snowed in.
Brody has not told his twins that he might be working with thier favorite author.
They want him too they also want to matchmake for thier father. They are cute girls. What a handful they are.

A Kiss at Midnight by Brenda Minton
Jolie Godwin is a artist who had a rough childhood. She has had hard feeling for Jake Wild the hotel owner. He fired her father years ago. Last year they shared a kiss at New year.
Jake Wild has a hard time trusting women. He has just got custody of his niece who has hearing problems while her mom is in drug rehab.
I don't want to say too much about these books since they are so short. Makes me want to go to First Night. They are cute stories.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.

COUNTDOWN TO FIRST NIGHT by JILLIAN HART, MARGARET DALEY, and BRENDA MINTON, is three stories between the covers of one book.

WINTER’S HEART by JILLIAN HEART

Shelby Craig moves back to Snow Falls with her kids after losing her home, to stay with her grandmother. It was just her luck to run into Ronan Winters on her first night. Even though Shelby had once crushed Ronan’s heart, he still found himself attracted to her. Even when she made it perfectly clear she wasn’t interested in a relationship.

SNOWBOUND AT NEW YEARS by MARGARET DALEY

Ellie Summers, a children’s book author, heads out to illustrators, Brody Kincaid’s home. As she heads up the mountain, the weather has her walking the rest of the distance to Brody’s house, intent on discussing his latest drawings for her book. If she thought she was going to leave any time soon, she was mistaking. The weather wasn’t about to cooperate. Meeting his daughter’s changes everything, including Ellie’s feeing for their father.

A KISS AT MIDNIGHT by BRENDA MINTON

I have to admit; A KISS AT MIDNIGHT by BRENDA MINTON, is why I purchased COUNTDOWN TO FIRST NIGHT. A huge fan of BRENDA MINTON, I purchase every book she puts out.

Creating a romance in only ninety-six pages is no small task. But if anyone can do it, it would be BRENDA MINTON. It’s no surprise I loved her characters as well as the plot. Her writing skills were certainly not in questions, and on all accounts, she didn’t disappoint.

Jolie Godwin never did forget the kiss she and Jake Wild shared on New Year’s Eve years ago. And apparently either did he. The past threatens to keep Jolie at a distance, but Jake will have nothing to do with it. He’s not the man she has him made out to be, and hopefully he can convince her of that.

3.5 Stars First let me say in general each story was sweet. I am not one who enjoys the whole “We meet, we aren’t meant to be together, we need to be together, we love each other” in a matter of a couple of chapters but these stories were sweet enough to keep me interested.

Winter's Heart by Jillian Hart
This was a very cute story. I liked that the main couple already knew each other as children and had reconnected. I really enjoyed the main male character of Ronan when he interacted with the children. Very sweet story.

Snowbound at New Year by Margaret Daley
This was cute but not as cute as the first one. I was a little tired of the main male character Brody’s attitude. He should have been named Brooding because that is what it seemed he was doing the whole time. I enjoyed the children of the story too even though trust me no 6 year old speaks the way they do.

A Kiss at Midnight by Brenda Minton
Once again I enjoyed this story as much as the first story. I liked that the characters had a history and in this case a very long history. The characters are really interesting and I loved that little Anna spoke sign language. There is true romance in this story.

Winter's Heart by Jillian Hart - 5 stars
This is a delightful story about Shelby Craig and Ronan Winters, childhood sweethearts who meet again after tragic events in both of their lives. The sweet romance is delightful to read; I wish there were more couples like these two in the world today.

Snowbound at New Year by Margaret Daley - 4.5 stars
The professions of the two main characters, an author and an illustrator, made this one very interesting to me, and the way they interacted was interesting. It made the reader ponder how much many of the creative arts are approached in somewhat the same manner. The twin girls made a delightful, amusing addition.

A Kiss at Midnight by Brenda Minton - 4 stars
This one was good, but didn't have quite as much going on as the other two. I kept thinking the little girls estranged father would show up, there would be money stolen, etc. The actual climax seemed a little more tame. Also, it confused me a bit that the hearing impaired girl wore hearing aids during one section of the novella, but that was the only time they were mentioned, and she relied totally on sign language otherwise. Maybe I missed something?

I would recommend this anthology when you want an easy, quick read.

This book is an anthology of stories written about a town in Colorado that goes all out to celebrate First Night. The first story is a rekindling of a friendship. We meet a woman who has returned 'home' seeking to make a better life for her children after the death of her husband has left them in dire straights. The second story is about a woman who writes children's books and is involved with getting a new illustrator for her stories. The male illustrator has twin daughters and no interest in another romance. He's been affected by the unforeseen circumstances surrounding the death of his wife. His daughters have other ideas, as they feel he needs a girlfriend. The woman is not sure about a relationship with the man. The last story is about a young woman, affected by the actions of her father, and the man who she is indebted to as he was her father's boss. They had a kiss at midnight on the previous year's New Year's Eve celebration and now he wants more but she feels she's not worthy of him. His niece has other ideas and tries to get them together so the sparks can fly.

I really found this book to be an enjoyable read. With three separate stories that all have a noticeable tie-in at the end, it was fun to read about the town itself, the people this author has created and the romances between them. What I found so endearing about this book, was that the romance is not simply implied. The tension, chemistry and love between the characters is palpable.

This novel was entertaining from beginning to end, with no sagging spots in the middle. The characters were all very likeable and people that I wanted to read about. By the end of this, I wanted to go there too!

I loved the first story in the book the most, but the others were very good as well. After reading this, I will certainly look for more romance novels by Jillian Hart. If you love true romance, where the men are worthy of being called heroes and the women are intelligent and well crafted characters, this is a really good choice.

This review is from an ARC copy from the publisher.

Posted at Oh My Books!

Happy New Year everyone!! Countdown to First Night is a lovely book. I liked the three stories, all of them were very sweet and I like family romances, you know, when one of the protagonist have kids and taking care of them comes first. I think the three authors managed this very well, all the stories had sweet kids and parent who weren't sure about having a romance.

I'm glad I read it in New Years Eve. It was great to get in the feeling, the three stories were so heart warming. Just what I needed for that time :) The romances were very light and sweet, but realistic, even when everything happened very fast (as always in short stories).

Overall, I loved Countdown to First Night. I think it was perfect to end the holidays!

Thanks to netgalley for my review copy.
I found this to be an interesting book as it focus's on New Years Eve. Each story is set in Snowfalls Colorado and the focus is the towns celebrations. The novellas are sweet and they move fairly fast due to the size but still are a good read. Each story has its own issues and its interesting to see how the characters deal with the different issues. The first books we see the hero and heroine meet when the heroine comes back to the town she spent summers as a girl and had a crush on the neighbour. We see what happens many years later. The second book deals with an author and and Illustrator and the differences they have to get the book right. The last one we have Hero and heroine from different walks of life and wondering if they can be compatible.
This is a good read.

This book contained 3 different stories by 3 different authors. The similarities between these stories are that it is based in Snow Falls, Colorado on New Year eve where all the characters are going to be. If you wonder whether would these characters integrate at the end of the story, the answer is no. It is written in such a way that the main characters have its own story to tell.

The stories individually are rather short and focus mostly on single parents raising their offspring and finding love at the end of the book. It is rather a clean story with not much conflict between the characters

If you're looking for something to read in the New Year, this collection of sweet and clean short stories is a good choice. Each story features single parents and the issues that go along with those situations. I liked the variety in locations and character types. Each story was different and very fun to read. With erotica gaining so much popularity right now, it was kind of nice to read something that didn't focus purely on the physical aspects of relationships. This would make a great fireside or airport read, depending on your travel plans this season.

Meh. I think these stories had some potential, but none of them even came close to living up to it. There was way too much silliness on all three heroine's parts for me to overlook, and in all three the problems that had to be overcome in order to get to the HEA seemed to have been solved with the wave of a magic wand. Or perhaps a sprinkle of fairy dust. Either way, they were all fixed way too quickly and without any substantial effort or reasons behind them.

This is a three in one book; three novellas written by three different authors all with New Years Eve-Day in common. The first two novellas were written very nice; easy to follow and kept my attention. Nice storyline and nice ending. However the last story I simply could not get into it. So didn't finish it. But I do recommend the first two. And the subject matter and language within the story is that that I could recommend to my pre teen readers

"The small, picturesque town of Snow Falls, Colo., is the setting for these three charming stories. The characters are well-formed in these short tales, and the children add a family feel.
