Twelve-year-old Lauren Silver is ready to hit the beach for her annual family vacation. Aside from the sun and sand, she’s especially thrilled to be reunited with her gorgeous summer crush, Charlie Anderson. Sure, she’s only spoken to him once, for exactly thirteen seconds, but she knows they are meant to be together. She’s even spent all year developing The Love Plan, a foolproof way to get to know Charlie and have him fall for her.
But plans don’t always work out, which Lauren learns when she finds out a friend from school, Chrissy Porter, will be joining her family on their vacation. As if having to make Chrissy part of The Love Plan isn’t bad enough, Lauren then has to face a very tough reality of crushes: Sometimes they are not mutual. And sometimes, when fate is playing a really mean trick on you, the object of your crush ends up crushing on your friend Chrissy.
Can Lauren survive her beach vacation? And more importantly, can she survive her first crush?
This was a 3.5 for me. I thought Chrissy was such a good friend to Lauren. Never judging her even when she felt Lauren was being ridiculous. Always up for a good time and giving Lauren sound advice, hyping her up even when she was hurt. Lauren honestly didn't appreciate her enough and took Chrissy for granted. It was crazy how Lauren kept pushing Chrissy to switch crushes when she herself couldn't let the idea of Charlie go. Frank was such a sweet guy! He was willing to help and listen and I found it adorable how he tried to make feelings known. Wish there was more Frank in the story haha Lauren learned to be herself, to listen to her friends and their worries, to not let a boy change her. She was at a vulnerable age and an only child, so I kind of get it, but her antics were a bit annoying after a while 😅 Ending was a bit open ended but with promises of a good things to come😊
What I liked: This is a cute story about tween crushes, first loves and learning how to just be yourself. It's well written with a steady pace. The friendships feel genuine and the focus on "romance" is not over the top. The "quizzes" cracked me up because I remember them all too well!
What left me wanting: The girls in this story are in MS but at times, it felt as if they were a little older. The boys seem older too but there's no mention of their ages.
Very cute & innocent middle school romance story. The main character is completely obsessed with a boy and her teen magazines (and quizzes). Her friend is the perfect friend that stays with her throughout her selfish boy drama and helps her see the truth. Predictable story, but perfect for innocent middle schoolers.
Three books in the series were donated to our school library and they are never on the shelves...
This was a cute book about a middle school girl's plan to win over her summer crush. The author really nails the awkwardness that young girls (and I suppose boys) feel when they are around the person they have a massive crush on. It brought back memories of my middle and high school years! Ultimately, though, the book is about making friends and learning to be true to yourself. This would be a great book to recommend to girls who like a little chaste romance in their stories.
Very cute tween read about a girls first crush. A squeaky clean, relatable story perfect for the tween genre. Lesson 1: you shouldn't plan out your life because plans may not go accordingly. Lesson 2: things always happen for a reason. I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to the next in the series. Bravo to you Angela!
So based on the title it was surprising to find that the friendship between Lauren and Chrissy ended up being the most enjoyable part to read. It's also nice to show younger readers that even the best laid plans sometimes won't work but everything will turn out alright in the end. And the emphasis on being yourself is much appreciated.
This was a fun read. It was fun to read from the POV of a teenage girl. The characters were funny and the story was very relatable. But if she were to ask me, I could have told her that Charlie was out of her reach. He's just a pretty boy. He would have broken her heart anyways.
The exposition of the book Laurens Beach Crush is that Lauren is going on a beach trip with her parents. The thing includes seeing her crush once again , which she has not really interacted with. They end up inviting one of Laurens friends Chrissy which could possibly ruin her plans for her crush. Lauren is a shy person who does not interact with people so this would be new to her and would hopefully not ruin her LOVE PLAN.
The setting of the story is at Laurens house planning everything at and how its going down. The second setting is they are on the road to the beach house. The third setting is the stop to get food. The last setting is at the beach where Lauren will soon find her crush.
The antagonist is no one because Laurens friend ends up helping her. At first Lauren thinks that Chrissy is going to ruin everything. The real deal is she makes it better and makes it work between Lauren and her crush. So there really is no antagonist.
The protagonist is Lauren and how she overcomes a obstacle that she did not think she would overcome. The deal with her is she is a shy person and does not get a long with everyone. Her friend Chrissy ends up helping her with her crush. She brings a new Lauren in to the world. One that is not shy and one that can handle anything. Lauren becomes more confident with her crush.
The conflict is Chrissy ruined the LOVE PLAN Lauren has plan for them for the beach house. She will talk to her crush and tell him about her feelings. When Lauren finds out about Chrissy the conflict is there. Lauren hopes that Chrissy does not interfere with her plan.
The rising action is when they arrive at the beach house and go walk around. As they walk around they run into her crush , who actually talks to her and makes a conversation with her. Charlie ends up inviting them somewhere and Lauren is scared about it. Chrissy does not care and wants to go, she is not the shyest person ever which differs from Lauren.
The climax , is when Charlie tries to kiss Lauren on the cheek and she does not know what to do. She is shy and scared at the same time. They hug and meet up the next day and see where it goes from there. They end up seeing how far they can go before Lauren has to leave back home. The end up not getting far.
The falling action, is when Lauren has to eventually leave for her home again. That is the most hardest when her and Charlie are just getting close. She ends up fighting with Charlie and Chrissy from the frustration that she is going through.
The resolution is Charlie will wait for Lauren until she get back. Lauren will take Chrissy next time they go to the beach house again. They all end up being good in the end. They all go out to eat and go to the beach . Charlie ends up liking Lauren even way more then he did before.
Secondary Character is Chrissy. Chrissy helps Lauren being a confident person then she was in the beginning . They start being BFF something Lauren thought she would never get. She ends the beach house trip with a big smile on her face. She has a boyfriend and a BFF all in one how can it get any better. She happy with life and how it is going.
The memorable quote " She couldn't wait to tell Chrissy later. But right here, right now, all she wanted to do was enjoy the moment, and wonder at the way sometimes thing really do work out okay in the end.... even without a plan." This quote really opens my eyes on how it can go from a shy trip to a open trip. She really over come everything. Her friend Chrissy is what helped the situation better. At the end everything worked out.
The rate of the book is an 8 , because it is a really kiddy but cool book. I really enjoy it in many ways. I just love , love stories that is probably why and how it changes over time. They are really joyful books. Everything worked out great at the end.

Lauren is the everygirl with a crush on a boy she doesn't really know. The summer she decides to use The Plan to get him to notice her, she finds a BFF who is willing to help her - to an extent.
This is a really cute read for the tween crowd - sweet, fun, and most importantly, clean. While the idea of romance is introduced, this really is a story of friendship and being true to one's self.
This book was pretty good, though it did not stand out from other books. I think since it was a short book it kept my attention longer. It's not the best book but its ok.
This book is really predictable. It sounds like every other love story.I thought the book was okay and I might read the next book in the series.Hopefully, the second book is not just like this one.
