Wade Mitchell, one of the long-term foster kids and son to the Eden's, discovered that his parents had sold off a tract of land that holds a secret he and his brothers have been trying to hide for years. Trying to keep it hidden, Wade approaches the new landowner hoping to buy back the land. But he discovers the land now belongs to Victoria Sullivan, an architect he fired from his company for ethical misconduct several years back. Victoria was innocent and hasn't quite forgiven Wade for firing her without a word. There'd been mild flirtation and respect and the sudden betrayal caused her to stop trusting herself and men. So she's not about to sell the land where she plans to build her dream house back. Not when Wade wants it so badly. He'll do whatever it takes, even consider seduction. He doesn't have to seduce her - that pretty much takes care of itself. But once Wade backs off from trying to buy the land, Victoria starts to trust him. But he still wants it...or at least what's hidden on it. He'll do anything to protect his family, even if it means risking his love with Victoria.
A good start to the series. I started off with the sec9nd one actually and was curious about the other brothers, so I started from the beginning. Victoria and Wade were both likeable characters, even though I kind of think Victoria was acting rather immature. In the same breath though, I couldn't help but think that she was too forgiving of Wade having fired her in the first place. And he didn't grovel nor apologize nearly enough once hel earned the truth. And when Victoria later rationalizes her forgiveness, saying she was better off for having been fired and it didn't really affect her all that much, I began to wonder why she'd been so angry in the first place. Nevertheless, a pretty good story and an enjoyable romance.
