Dating a Silver Fox

Rate this book
Lydia McCarthy doesn't want any man in her life, much less an incorrigible old flirt like Morrison Fox. Widowed in her forties, she likes being single and independent. She has carefully created a life that suites her. She truly can't see any sane reason to risk her peaceful life for someone who says he wants to make wine out of her one minute and then embarrasses her with innuendo the next. Does it matter at her age that Morrie might be her last chance to find true love?

To be honest I really didn't want to read about Lydia, Lauren's mother. She made me so mad in Lauren's book I didn't care about her story, but once I started a series I knew I had to finish. Well, this book was so intriguing and written so well I couldn't hardly put it down. Lydia's story was amazing. Her first husband treated her very badly and couldn't give her an orgasm and he left such a bad taste in her mouth she couldn't care less about men. She became a bitter old woman until she met Morrie. I fell completely in love with his character. He was so charming and persistent. He knew what he wanted and went after it, no matter how much rejection. It was so sad someone could make it that long in life not knowing what love was and how to be happy. I have to say I love Donna McDonald's stories and am excited for the next book!

This book wanted so badly to be funny that in the end it just got exhausting.
I was going to love this book because it had everything I like in romance: unusual protagonists (this time older ones), cameos of protagonists from other books in the series, humor, concealed trauma, etc...
Unfortunately, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. There was wayyy too many characters and it felt like they were all fighting for center stage, I honestly would have been fine not knowing every single character's inner thought in every given scene. This made for a very exhausting book with way too much dialogue (and inner-dialogue). I usually don't like too much description in my books, well here I was desperate for some description/narration, and a bit less witty dialogue. I found myself groaning "ok, Writer, I get it, no need to spell it out!" too many times to count.
The trauma thing was interesting enough, though the resolution was quite swift and even easy, considering it had been going on for 45 years... But I was fine with the writer's choice to tie up the story nicely, even though since it's a series anyway, it would've been fine to let some loose strings linger till next book.
I have a final nitpick about the heroine: she's a hot, very firm bodied 67 year old with a fantastic ass and the tits of a 20 year old... Need I say anymore?..

This is the story of Lydia McCarthy, who was a villain in Dating a Saint, Lauren McCarthy's book in the Never Too Late series. The amazing thing about this book was how Donna McDonald made me care about Lydia and understand why she was so bitter before the birth of her grandson.

Lydia is working as a volunteer at a retirement community where she meets Morrie Fox, a widower whose daughter owns the facility. Lydia doesn't understand his interest in her and assumes that her coldness will deter him. Yet Morrie sees past her defenses and decides he will do whatever he can to get Lydia to let him into her life.

I enjoyed Lydia and Morrie's journey and look forward to the next book in this series.

Deliciously grown and sexy

I could not stop smiling the whole time I read this book. It had been on my wish list for awhile. But I never forgot the draw to it I felt. And it does not disappoint. Boy if all the silver foxes were as smooth as Morrie, all woman wouldn't stand a chance.

If anybody would have told me when I started reading this series that I would be laughing at Lydia McCarthy’s antics, I would have called them a liar. But that’s exactly what I spent this book doing. There’s some pretty deep and powerful emotional undertow to this story, but I was laughing so hard for so much of the book, I usually never saw it coming.

What a change from the previous 4 books!! Never saw this one coming but so glad it did! There were plenty of laugh out loud moments, but also found a few tears as well. Who knew we could find a little bit of her in each of us!

I enjoyed the conflicts with the characters, and the story had a lot to say. My only reason for not giving the book 4" stars and is it dragged in several spots.

Horrible

I don't want to spend my time reading about bitter, witchy women. I was married to one for 25 years and I'm having flashbacks.

Older and sexy! Fun, touching, romantic

With Lydia, age 67, being flirted with by Morris, age 62, I was surprised at just how lively, touching, and romantic this story was. This is the most mature couple I have read so far and because it is part of a terrific series. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. Also, Lydia was not a kind character from a previous story. But I was caught by the perk behind her cold, hard exterior that the author revealed a scared, lonely, unloved woman who was then easier to identify with.

As Lydia allows Morrie to invade her world, her facade behind to crumble. That were some laugh out loud moments and cringeworthy ones, too. There's the start of the next book's relationship with Jane, 38, and Walter, 26. I will admit to already having read and enjoyed that one.

I like that this series delves into issues like Lydia having stayed with her cheating husband and her lack of sexual satisfaction. Having past characters from previous books part of this one was wonderful.

I recommend this story as it works on so many levels.

Another wonderful read

I love reading stories where it's not just the young people finding love. This author reminds it's never to late to find and fall in Love. Thanks for the great read

I appreciate that this book focuses on older people, in this case, a couple in their mid-to-late sixties. It's the demographic I want to read about. However, I couldn't finish this book.

In romance writing, having the woman seem virginal is a frequently-used plot device. But with Lydia, it was just unbelievable. She couldn't even bring herself to say common words for body parts or interaction between lovers. (I'm trying to keep this clean so my review won't get bounced!)

It's not impossible for me to imagine that you could have people in their sixties, seventies, eighties or whatever, for whom THIS romance is the once in a lifetime, glorious BEST. It isn’t necessary to twist them into infantile, repressed people like Lydia. As interesting as older people are, I’d like to see a romance where the “first ever” aspect is more believable, and frankly, less yucky.

'Dating a Silver Fox' is the fifth instalment in the Never Too Late Series and Donna McDonald definitely doesn't disappoint with this one! From beginning to end, the story is full of excitement and wonderful romance.

Being 21, I was worried that with this novel I wouldn't be able to relate to the main characters - for one, they are 40 - 50 years my senior and also, Lydia was definitely not my (and for most other people I imagine ;) ) favourite character. This completely changes throughout this novel as you gradually hear Lydia's story. She is a wonderfully complex character and you just end up willing her on throughout her romance.

Yet again I really enjoyed this novel, and am extremely excited to see that Donna is going to write a 6th book in the series!

Thanks again, Donna!

I thought I loved Ben in Dating Dr. Notorious but I have to say I am so in love with Morrie. His teasing had me laughing all weekend. I literally could not put the book down. I was cooking (almost burning) dinner while trying to read. Up late at night by the glow of my Nook. The patience Morrie had for Lydia is just breathless. I didn't think at first I wanted to read Lydia's story after all she was a piece of work, but man am I glad I took a chance because this is now my favorite of the series.

I really like how the author started setting up Jane and Walter's story and continued to bring the characters from the other stories in the book.

Again I can't say enough good things about this series!!!

Loved this book!!! Morris and Lydia, ages 62 and 67 respectively. I do appreciate that they were a more mature couple. I'm not there yet, but when I get there, I hope I'm having as much fun as Morris and Lydia.

We are also introduced to Walter and Jane in this book; another older woman younger man story.

I enjoyed the characters. I even started to like Lydia. Morris and Harrison were so funny. In fact, this entire book was funny.

A romantic comedy full of sarcasm, sexy sassy women, sexy determined men, fun, friendship, humor, and love. This one left me with a smile on my face.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

At first, I wasn't too impressed that this book was going to be about Lydia McCarthey but I'm glad I read it.

The story about why Lydia was the way she was made me sad. I like how you come out of her shell thou and she and Morrie come together. The shock of Lydia going to see Dr. Logan was funny and then they became friends.

I like how all the books keep all the characters in each of them.

I've enjoyed this series and I'm currently reading Dating a Cougar II.

I loved seeing Lydia thaw and find the joy in life. Morrie is a joy, and of course, Harrison is playing match maker. It's great to see mature characters with great chemistry who can generate some serious steam! Dr. Notorious is back, along with Lauren and Alexa and some hilarious dinner conversations from the ladies. Enjoy!

I swear...I have just totally enjoyed this series! I can't get enough of it either! Lydia and Morrison's story was a hoot. Morrie cracked me up with his non sense he would spew! LOL. And I honestly wondered if Lydia would ever redeem herself in her daughters eyes....heck in the readers eyes as well. She does though and I am so thankful. I just love a happy ending! On to book 6!

I think wasn't easy write of Lydia and was strange for me read, but the story was nice, Morrie is one big character and know the Lydia's past make we understand better her behavior with Lauren and other people. Is good think that is never too late for love and sex, and so live fully own life.

This is what is currently the last in the series, however, I know that they are not going to stop there as Donna is too good an author with a large following, and they are all eagerly waiting for the next instalment, as am I.

Silver Fox indeed

I was not thrilled to find out that this book was to be Lydia's story. To be honest I even thought twice about staring it! Boy was that dumb! With all of my favorite characters along for the ride I can't believe I ever had my doubts! Such a great story!

Dating a Silver Fox was the last (to date) in the Never Too Late series by Donna McDonald. I've been enjoying the series, but this one was just OK - maybe the weakest in the series so far.

I loved the first four books, but not this one. I do not like Lydia at all. She burned that bridge for me in Lauren's book.
