The Cupcake Club questions its loyalties when Mia makes friends with a mean girl in disguise. There’s a new girl in town, and Mia tries to take her under her wing. But Olivia Allen is not so nice; as a matter of fact, she might be even meaner than Sydney Whitman! Mia’s been saving for weeks to buy a new pair of shoes, but when Olivia asks to borrow money, Mia gives it to her—only to find out Olivia spends the cash on the exact same shoes Mia has been saving up for! Plus she makes fun of the other Cupcake girls and tells Mia she shouldn’t be friends with them. Will Mia see Olivia’s true colors before she wreaks havoc on the Cupcake Club?
Coco Simon always dreamed of opening a cupcake bakery, but she’s afraid she would eat all the profits. When she’s not daydreaming about cupcakes, Coco edits children’s books and has written close to 100 books for children, tweens, and young adults, which is a lot less than the number of cupcakes she’s eaten. Cupcake Diaries is the first time Coco has mixed her love of cupcakes with writing.
A fun read with my kiddos. Suggested by my 9 year old daughter, but despite his protests, my 12 year old son was riveted. We all cringed along with the main character as she navigated the tension between old and new friendships. An endearing telling of life from a child's-eye viewpoint. Good for a youngster to read alone or for family bonding time.
This book is about a girl named Mia and her cupcake baking friends. Then a new girl came her name was Olivia. Olivia was the new girl at school and Mia wanted to be nice to her so she would not feel sad. But Mia's cupcake friends did not trust Olivia. Olivia wanted to be part of the Best Friends Club instead. The BFC club were a group of girls that were not nice and did not like the cupcake baking girls. Mia loved a pair of shoes but did not have enough money to buy them. Mia and her friends had a cupcake business. mia was saving money to buy the shoes, but the money she saved for the shoes she used it to decorate Olivias new locker. But when Mia gave the receipt to Olivia, she never paid back the money used to decorate and Mia was not able to buy the shoes that she wanted. Olivia was not a good friend!
I absolutely love Coco Simon's books. But this one, well... 1) I feel like this gives the wrong idea about helping people. Mia is a kind person, so she befriends a new girl, who promptly betrays her. This made me feel a lot less willing to talk to new kids who would go to my school. 2) Mia was so ignorant. Everything kept going wrong, but still, Mia made excuses for a girl who wasn't really her friend. Really? 3) It was hard to get through. This goes back to point two, but I kept getting so frustrated with Mia, and Olivia kept rubbing things in her face. Ugh! This wasn't one of the best of Coco Simon's books, but she still is a great author.
This was a quick enjoyable read. I thought we were going to be done with the new mean girl dilema's in the cupcake diaries but, I guess not. Olivia, new girl tries to get in good with fellow cupcaker Mia; things start off well but she starts to say mean things and in the end Mia sees the real Olivia. This is one of the aspects of this storyline(s) that makes it very interesting. I like the fact that these girls are dealing with real situations and handling them in a "growing up" manner. Still like the series and the girls do become a part of you.
Olivia is new to the girls school and Mia sets about welcoming her and helps by lending her space in her locker and later money too only for the other girls to not bond with Olivia making Mia feel split between them all. However, as their rival group of popular girls take Olivia under their wing, Mia finds herself in disbelief but the other girls have her back as they cater another birthday party.
A story all about true friendship and loyalty as well as kindness and sticking up for yourself.
3.75 stars. This book's central focus is Mia. Mia attempts to befriend the new girl at school, Olivia Allen. The problem with Olivia is that she has a mean streak that's worse than Sydney Whitman. Mia is oblivious to Olivia's meanness at first. Olivia then starts gossiping about the rest of the cupcake club and instructs Mia not to be friends with them. Olivia also completes other schemes. These situations make Mia question Olivia's true intentions. Will Mia see Olivia's true colors before she wreaks havoc on the Cupcake Club? Overall, this is a cute book. The cupcakes sound delicious.
It's odd how much my opinions on these books have changed as I got older. I still like them, but I find myself cringing at the social things that happen. This one is pretty relatable, though. Mia is friendly to the new girl, who ends up using her and being mean, and Mia doesn't know what to do about it. She's split between being nice and being loyal to her old friends, which is actually a super hard situation and I get it. This book makes much more sense than the first one.
This book was amazing. I don't like her, she's an awful person -- don't get me wrong. I simply mean to say that she's a great character and this book really represents that there are going to be awful people like that. I've dealt with a few people like that -- acted like they were so nice, even though they really weren't. I have always loved Mia, too, so the books from her perspective are, in my opinion, so good! We even have the same name! Another great Coco Simon book.
This book was awesome! I loved the idea of sticking up for your friends. I thought it was a great concept of being friends with the people that matter and that you should always stand up for yourself and someone else even if they aren't your friend. I will reread this book at a later date. I recommend this book for ages 7+.
I thought there was a lot of details in this book.(but every book on this series is like that)There was also really good wording. Also there was a large amount of drama which I like. Coco Simon is a great author and I think this is one of her best books yet!!!!!🤩🤗🥳It was a mind blowing experience to read it because the book is so good!!!!!!!!!🤯🤯
I enjoy this book very much. This is perhaps my second finished book. As much to it, I like this book as I wanted when I was young. I still own this book, I love it!

“I am so easily distracted by fashion!” - “‘Some people are just not meant to be in close quarters together. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be friends.’” - Bro, every time Mia tries to make a new friend, it’s never the right kind of person. She assumes too much of the best of others to the point where she is excusing their behavior. I think Olivia is kinda worse than Sydney because she is fake.
That girl name Olivia was so mean and she was just using Mia's friendship and kindness. Haha to her at the end when she fell onto the pale of cupcakes at the birthday party and mess up her shoes that Mia wanted and Olivia need to pay the money back to Mia
I liked the book because it teaches me a lesson about not being mean and you want to be a nice kid to everybody and you want everyone to like you. You don't want your troubles to get worse.
