While the day belongs to humans, the night belongs to yokai, supernatural creatures that thrive on human fear. Caught between these worlds is Rikuo Nura. He's three-quarters human, but his grandfather is none other than Nurarihyon, the supreme commander of the Nura clan, a powerful yokai consortium. So, Rikuo is an ordinary teenager three quarters of the time, until his yokai blood awakens. Then Rikuo transforms into the future leader of the Nura clan, leading a hundred demons.
CONFLICT
Rikuo trains for a rematch against the yokai Tsuchigumo, who has his friend Yuki-Onna in his clutches. To get him up to par, Gyuki of the Nura clan has ordered Rikuo to attain a technique worthy of the Lord of a Hundred Demons in just three days. But time is running out and Rikuo hasn’t gained anything but bumps and bruises. Will he be able to save Yuki-Onna?
SO AMAZING. I love seeing how Rikuo grows up with each volume. He is more and more becoming the leader he was meant to be. And his companions are really interesting and cool.
The battle rages on in Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, Vol. 13: Conflict with Yura and her onmyôji brothers continuing to impress while whooping evil yôkai ass. What really stands out in this volume is the amazing display of teamwork shared between would-be enemies. Humans, yôkai, and onmyôji all come together, set aside differences, and fight as one. Go Team Nura!
I love the Tôno Clan. The cliffhanger ending gave me goosebumps. I cannot wait to pick up the next volume. These volumes are getting better and better and so intense. I may have to put this series on my favorites-shelf. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

My Thoughts:
In this volume, we discover why Kurama-Tengu is no longer working with Hagoromo-Gitsune and why Minagoroshi-Jizo seems to have taken his place. We still don't know where that creepy eye guy came from, though. Also, Yosuzume brought him that sword she took from Tamazuki way back when. What's going on with that chick? She seems to be working for someone, but I didn't think it was him. There was that scene where she was at the Nura Clan house speaking to one of the Execs, who doesn't seem to actually be an Execu, so there's still more to learn, I'm sure.
Anyway, Rikuo manages to learn just what Gyuki wanted him to discover and gains an even greater level of fear. Totally love it. Rikuo is becoming more and more manly which sounds strange because when he's human, he's not even 13, yet. =/ It's truly an amazing technique, though!
Meanwhile, Aotabo gets into the action when Shokera shows up at the Keikain Main House to collect human livers and nearly takes the girls from the Kiyojuji Paranormal Patrol. We get a glimpse into his past and see how he turned into a yokai. He gives Shokera the smackdown and sends him and his demons packing, but not before the 27th head of the Keikain onmyouji is struck down. It seems that old man wants Yura in charge. She's strong enough to do it, but she's so young! I'm rooting for her, though!
Rikuo finally manages to go rescue Tsurara and she's shocked when he tells her that she doesn't need to protect him, anymore. Instead, he tells her to trust her entire heart and body to him! I think she takes that the wrong way, but it works and he's able to shoulder her fear and cut off one of Tsuchigumo's arms! I can't wait to see what happens next! The Tono guys want to take Tschigumo out, too, but can they?
At this point, vol. 13, in a series my reviews can't not but contain a spoiler or two. I always find it a little hard to get going with each volume in this series and I think that is because there is such a huge cast of characters that I'm not exactly remembering them all until they've been around for several volumes. And sometimes characters don't last that long ... But, usually, as with this volume, by the end I'm totally engrossed and ready for the next volume! One of my favourite minor characters hasn't been around for some time but he's back in this volume, Aotabo, and we learn his history. Rikuo finally learns his Yokai battle power and wow! is it amazing and well worth waiting for. As I always say battle scenes are not my favourite part of shonen manga but Tsuchigumo is an awesome yokai and opponent; the art of his battle scenes is amazing and great fun. Lots of talk about Hagoromo-Gitsune but she doesn't show up; looking forward to seeing her next volume as she's a great villain and this volume brings about the death of a minor good guy. Loving this series!
