El Espiritu Santo A Pentecostal Perspective. This book presents a deeper theological position on the Pentecostal view of the person and work of the Spirit. Dr. Palma deals with the initial, physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (which he defines as speaking in tongues), and seeks to offer a new approach, while remaining classically Pentecostal in his point of view. He also challenges the Pentecostal interpretation of John 20:22 as the new birth of the eleven disciples of Christ. In this book, Dr. Palma also presents, as a Greek language scholar, studies on relevant Greek words.
Such a solid read! Palma breaks down the difference between being baptized by the Spirit and in the Spirit in a way that finally clicked for me. Also, learning that “be perfect” actually means “be mature”? Game changer. Protects my overachiever heart from going full legalist. As someone who grew up Baptist and wrestled with cessationism, this book helped me see how much I’d boxed God in. A little academic at times, but freeing, insightful, and totally worth the deep dive. 🔥
