A virulent disease sweeps through the Sawblen Province. The source is unknown. As hundreds fall victim, the healers race to contain it and find a cure before it engulfs the realm, but a would-be healer complicates the situation by concocting dangerous drugs.

While the officials are distracted, a counterfeiter takes advantage of the events. Credentials and money are faked, putting several lives in peril and resulting in deaths.

The Great One's council and sage population hurry to track down the sources of the trouble and right the multiple crises before anyone else falls prey to the events. Rare natives of the planet have important information to impart if the sages can decipher their cryptic message.

The Sage Seed Chronicles combines a bit of fantasy with classic science fiction for an exciting tale of survival. Very reminiscent of Dark Eden and by Chris Beckett, dystopian and speculative fiction fans will certainly be intrigued by this concept. Though I admit to getting confused a few times, the story flows well overall and moves at a steady pace, sometimes picking up for the more intense scenes, and lingering a bit for more atmospheric scenes. Barbo created moderately complex characters, that do definitely grow and become more known to us throughout the series. They aren't battling much in the way of inner demons, which is absolutely a good thing because there is so much happening around them, the last thing any of these people, er, um aliens, need is to have to deal with more problems. I am enjoying this series thus far and would love to see more out of it.

I enjoyed this book very much. I have not read the first book the Founders, but this book proved to be astonishing in its own right. The characters were ones whom I could relate to and stand in awe at the author’s ability in creating them. I love animals and her descriptions and their interaction throughout the book was enticing to me the reader to continue on. The unexplained puzzling disease was no match for the Sages and the Healers but time proved to me the suspense and I found myself on the edge of my seat several times as if it affected me persona ally. Very nice change of pace and book for me.
I received this book in a give- away and certainly appreciate the chance to read it.

Holly Barbo creates a vivid world of interesting characters that slowly become family and friends to readers. Better, her other-worldly creatures appeal to sci-fi lovers in their intelligence and their amazing abilities. Divergent Paths, Book II in the Sage Seed Chronicles, is pure magic that makes a person long to step right into the pages. Her ability to pull at emotions (yes, I shed tears in a few spots), and get so wrapped up in the tale is a talent that all need to be made aware of. I'm actually thankful I came to her books late because that just means I don't have to wait for the next one. I just have to download it! Oh, and love, love, love Raow!
