Charles Platt (born in London, England, 1945) is the author of 41 fiction and nonfiction books, including science-fiction novels such as The Silicon Man and Protektor (published in paperback by Avon Books). He has also written non-fiction, particularly on the subjects of computer technology and cryonics, as well as teaching and working in these fields. Platt relocated from England to the United States in 1970 and is a naturalized U. S. citizen.

Very useful encyclopedia!!

Ive learned things , the author should be proud of this encyclopedia. I recommand it , even more for hobbyist because it's a simple book to understand what seems complex to learn!!

solid gold. it is wonderful that it has suggestions on how and when to use certain components and circuits. it's like building with Legos

Nice, easy read for airplane rides, quick refresh

Nice, easy read also for professionals. Fairly comprehensive, very broad, not much depth. Great for beginners, good, quick re-fresh for professionals. I loved to read the series of all three books on an air plane. If you need in depth information then buy a book for the specialty you are looking for.

Charles Platt's books are the "MUST READ" ones for any hobbyist and enthusiast, embedded developers, and electrical engineering students. I'm a computer engineering student though, I love to merge software and hardware projects so I decided to study electrical engineering too, and Charles Platt is the best guy leading you to get to it. Thank you Charles for your priceless efforts.

Pretty good book for an introduction, and I think it would do well with its target audience of beginners. Just understand that as an encyclopedia it is in no way encyclopedic... I wanted to figure out some circuits for antenna impedance matching and also cascodes, and it's not going there.

Super useful and entertaining. Even though this is an encyclopedia / reference book, I read it straight through in order and enjoyed it.

A good summary of parts and what they're used for, though the book doesn't do much to teach people how to put everything together.
