Harley was thrust into the realm of the supernatural at the hands of a sadistic shifter, and his world will never be the same.

Harley’s one-night stand turned into a nightmare when a vengeance-seeking shifter kidnapped him to use Harley as a pawn. Things didn’t go so well for his abductor, or for Harley. He’d never have believed there were werewolves...shifters, rather, in the real world. After being freed, his mind is a mess and he doesn’t know how to cope with the things he’s experienced. Fear and anger are powerful emotions, and when they are out of control, the harm caused can scare one’s soul.

Val Whitley only ever had one goal in life—to serve in Marcus Criswell’s guard. Val had looked up to Alpha Anax Criswell for a long time and was honoured to serve him. When an accident alters Val’s life, possibly forever, he fears he’ll be of little or no use to his Alpha Anax. What good is a physically damaged shifter, especially one as messed up as he is?

When Val is sent out on an order from Alpha Anax Criswell, he thinks he’s being pawned off since he’s blind in one eye and is less than any other shifter. He doesn’t expect to find a strength he never knew he had, or the love of a destined mate...

A few things about me...

I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me.

And it's really hard trying to think of descriptives for myself, so I'll just let y'all e-mail me or comment at the blog if there's something specific you'd like to know, and spare you from reading a boring bio:D

This stories MCs, Harley and Val, are both established characters introduced in book #4 (Rendered). Both of whom were left traumatised and injured by a certain loopy-tunes psychopath at the end of that book.

They were both emotional basket cases, but together they would work it out. That was what mates did.

That pretty much sums up the story. Yep. *nods*

This was not my favourite of the series (not by a long shot), but it was welcomed addition nonetheless. I strongly suspect that my lacklustre reaction probably had to do with how much I loved the previous story (Resilience). It would have been hard pressed to compare, but still an overall enjoyable addition to the series.

Continuing the story of the members of the various packs of the Southwestern Shifters series and focusing on the North American continent for now, this sixth book contains the tale of Harley, one of Joshua Dobson's victims, and Val, one of the Alpha Anax's guards who was injured in a previous book and is the only known wolf shifter to have ended up in a coma. With two men wounded externally and internally, emotions run high in this book, and I became immediately and deeply involved in Harley's and Val's plight. They had so much going against them, and yet, both seemed to feel they belong together from the start. But with Harley denying it and Val not sure because his wolf is "asleep" after the coma, their road is not an easy one.

Harley hates wolf shifters with a vengeance. After what Joshua Dobson did to him, he believes all wolf shifters are cruel beasts, and his fear almost paralyzes him. Even though Nathan and Marcus take him into their home and try to show him not all shifters are bad, Harley is so stuck in his beliefs they eventually let him go back to his apartment. Not even the man in a coma, who attracts Harley's attention just before he leaves, can change that. Harley is emotional, impulsive, and not exactly open-minded even after he has physically recovered from his ordeal. It's the mental and emotional healing which is far more difficult, and part of what this story is really about. His learning curve, once he meets Val and understands he is a shifter as well, is steep and painful. Luckily, Harley is a survivor and a lot stronger than he thinks.

My heart went out to Val from the very beginning. He is a freak among wolf shifters: so deeply wounded that even the almost-magical shifter healing powers don’t help, he is left blind in one eye and with a heavy limp due to a badly-healed wound in one leg. And worst of all, his wolf has "gone to sleep", as he calls it, refusing to come out. He faces the prospect of never being able to shift again. In a society where physical strength is valued above all else, he can't possibly fit. No matter that his Alpha Anax and highest commander thinks differently, Val will need to experience this for himself if he wants to truly heal.

As with the other books in this series, I loved the many twists and turns, the continuing larger story about the shifters' power games, and the secondary characters from previous books returning for an "update" or two. If you like shifter stories and complicated human-shifter interaction, if you have enjoyed the books so far, and if you're looking for a read that will give you deep emotions, devotion between mates before they even know they're fated to be together, and hot man-on-man action, then you will probably like this novel as much as I did.

This one got the series back on track for me and I really enjoyed it. Harley was feisty but yet emotionally damaged (what Harley went through at the hands of Joshua Dobson was devastating) and I thought it was wonderful how Val was so patient and tender with him. He helped Harley reclaim his life. And then there's Val, who's physically damaged (blind in one eye, limping from a leg injury and unable to shift due to an attack by Joshua Dobson), yet Harley put aside his fear and hatred of all shifters and helped Val see what a sexy and strong man he still was. They were perfect together and really helped each other heal. The introduction of Harley's brother Ryder and the circumstances of Ryder's conversion opened up another avenue for the series to take in future books, plus the search still continues for the missing shifters in Amsterdam, so we'll have a lot of interesting storylines to look forward to and I for one can't wait :)

A very quick, but fun read on the whole.

I thought the build up and the start of the story was really great. I was curious and invested in Harley and his pain at being trapped in a house full of werewolves—excuse me, shifters.

The pacing of the first half felt great too, because things didn’t just happen ‘like that’ but rather a few weeks pass until Harley manages to get home—and his contact to Val—who becomes his mate is there, but limited.

The tension holds very well until the middle of the book, then, unfortunately, everything hurdles toward a happy end. Way too quickly, in my opinion. Had this story been twice as long, and the characters had a chance to slowly get to the HEA, this would have been a really awesome read, but instead, within two days Val and Harley would die for each other and love each other head over heels.

I felt it could have been drawn out much more, and I was a bit disappointed, particularly because the author has a nice writing style. It’s easy to read and moves nicely along. The dialogue is for the most part good—but the second half did get a bit tiring when so much was being “explained” through conversations, sometimes repetitive too.

I’d say this has great potential for a story, but ended up being rushed. Still, even as it is, I thought it made for guilty pleasure reading.

RATING: 2.5

Out of all Southwestern Shifter series, I like this one the most. Although, the plot with this one kind of fell apart (as is per usual). That pissed me off because it was $8. Not happy. I liked the fact that they were both broken and came into the relationship together and were able to heal... but I felt like, it didn't happen. The greatest part of the story was just skimmed over. Then BAM!

Harley and Val's story struck a great chord with me. These two are much more powerful than they think. I like the inner core on them - and they don't really degenerate into whiny dogs either. Love this series!

Reverence returns fans to the ongoing series storyline that was last visited at the end of Rendered. Up to bat is Harley, the human that Joshua Dobson kidnapped and terrorized back when he was trying to get Alex off of his trail. Not surprisingly Harley trusts no shifters and cannot leave Marcus’s territory fast enough when finally given the okay to return home, no matter how strong of a pull he was feeling from the unconscious and injured shifter he discovered in the infirmary. Because he doesn’t trust shifters, he refuses to tell Nathan and Marcus what Joshua did to him except to confirm that he was not raped. But as Harley sorts through his memories we learn that although he might not have been penetrated by Joshua or any of his men, he was violated. In an effort to “escape” his memories and nightmares, Harley begins clubbing, drinking, getting high, and hooking up with random strangers. It is during one of his clubbing nights that he encounters Val.

Unbeknownst to Harley, Val is a shifter. He’s another of Joshua’s victims and he’s been sent by Marcus and Nathan to insure Harley’s safety – with strict instructions NOT to mess with him. Due to the injuries he sustained when Joshua hit him with the Hummer, Val doesn’t ping Harley’s shifter-radar but he does set off Harley’s gaydar and Val is firmly in his sights for the night. While I didn’t like that Val was injured, I had to agree with both men that having Val’s wolf-side suppressed was probably the best thing that could have happened once they realized they were mates. After what Harley endured at Joshua’s hands, there was no way he would have accepted an aggressive shifter for a partner let alone as a mate. And while they didn’t wait long before getting sexual – and good grief was the alley scene HOT (only in books is making out in an alley sexy) – they did take it slow (by shifter standards) and got to know and trust one another better before they fully consummated their relationship. I enjoyed watching them connect emotionally and building the level of trust needed for a non-shifter relationship. It also made for some hot foreplay and sex scenes.

In addition to having Reverence pick the series thread back up, I liked how Bradford dropped in references from Resilience so that fans can identify where the books’ timelines overlapped. I really liked the introduction of Harley’s brother and am excited to find out where that storyline will take series as well because something is seriously brewing there. Reverence is another great addition to the Southwestern Shifters series and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Harley and Val heal mentally and physically so that they could start their lives post-Joshua Dobson anew … with each other. I am looking forward to reading Revolution so that I can find out what happened to Adam’s friend Jameson as well as catching up with Adam and Todd.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I read the blurb and was intrigue so I took a chance when I learned this was the sixth in Bailey Bradford’s Southwestern Shifters series. Once I began reading two things happened: (1) I was hooked and (2) I was able to quickly figure out the players. (happy dance!)
Both Harley and Val took me on an emotional roller coaster and Ms. Bradford began the ride from page one, word one. Harley’s fear was palpable. I could almost taste his loathing for all things of the shifter persuasion. Ms. Bradford painted with words Harley’s distrust and angst as he was held in his words “prisoner” in the compound. But I also felt his struggle to move past his fear. Harley’s determination was equally apparent. He wanted to move on but couldn’t figure out how. And Ms. Bradford did a wonderful job of showing us Harley’s mindset as he tried to put his capture and treatment behind him.
I was equally impressed with Val. He was scarred in a world were shifters don’t scar. He saw himself as flawed but in spite of his injuries he fought to come back. I was nothing but impressed with his determination and lack of self-pity. Even as he thought he was less than, he fought to overcome his limitations.
Together Val and Harley were something special. Both scarred in different ways but willing to fight for each other and to be whole, even if they are slightly different than before. And Ms. Bradford wrote a story that conveyed their determination, their fears and their love in a well written and compelling story that was full of Reverence.

Harley is a mess emotionally, after being kidnapped by Dobson and being forced to do the most horrible things he has no trust for any shifter. All he wants is to go back to his life, but that may not be as easy as he thinks.

Val is a mess emotionally to but more so physically, after being hit buy Dobson's car he was in a coma, a first for shifters and he's not back to 100% may never be there again. But he's not gonna wallow in self pity, no he just wants to go on with his life and serve his AA, the assignment he gets could be seen as one he got because there's no one else, but he knows it's because he can do it the best. But he wasn't expecting Harley and with his wolf MIA he has to trust his other instincts to help him realize thair mates and together they can heal each other.

Their story shows the heartache they each have gone through and how they go on after it all. You see Harley and his reactions to what happened to him and how he saw things from his perspective. Val could be angry at his situation but instead he goes with the flow and finds he good in it. It's not all sweet and cuddly it's raw and emotional and there's allot of angist in this one. Another great addition to this series.

Hmmm, Harley and Val...maybe it is just me but the couple just weren't that interesting. In the beginning Harley is upset with every shifter. He is traumatized by previous events and is very scared. His life kind of spins out of control (drinking and anonymous sucking in bars). He is reckless. Val is sent by Marcus to keep an eye on him. Val is also traumatized by same previous events and can not shift. His wolf is hiding. And he is blind in one eye. Of course when in the same room they are magically drawn to each other. And very quickly Harley gets over his less than favorable feelings towards shifters. I thought it was just absurd how quickly Harley got over it. Than there is the side story about his brother. And there are pages of love making between Marcus and Nathan. I actually began to wonder who was the focus of this book. There was hardly any drama between the couple, while the beginning of the book makes you think there might be some rough times ahead. This book could have been so much more. But the mate bond, even if it is very weak, cures everything within seconds. Hope the next one is better.

I have to admit, I was a little confused at first by the beginning of this one. The prologue starts a little into the story, and when chapter one starts we get a very upset (and rightfully so) Harley. Who, I’m trying to remember from all the previous charterers and books. As well has continue to read he’s disjointed rantings and ravings. Makes for a very confusing and not very fun first chapter or so. On top of me, myself wondering why we had another book? Since the bad guy was killed two books ago and we had a secondary character ‘got there story told, HEA’ in the last book.
But the story finally settled down, and we got the back story on why Harley is the way he is even before the capture. And the what happen to Val, and why even though he’s a guard to the AA we’ve not had any interaction from him. We also meet Ryder, Harley’s brother who was attacked and has his own story to tell.
Collectively, these people make a great team. And maybe because we didn’t spend much time alone with Val and Harley, I just didn’t get much of a connection with either of them.

Again, I liked the basic story and the series, but I'm really getting frustrated by the inconsistencies that come up.

When we first meet Val, he tells us that he's "never gone all the way with a guy" because he's basically hoping for a mate and saving himself for said mate. However, later he casually mentions lovers and loving the taste of, well, you know, and the rest has him having had lovers and topping and doing other activities but only being a virgin bottom. There was also a change in relating the details of what happened with Todd and Adam in Amsterdam that was covered in the previous book. Finally, there was an incident of name confusion at the end.

I like the plots of a few of Ms. Bradford's series, and this book coupled with the previous book leave clear openings for at least two more books in the series. I just hope that the proofing and editing can be stepped up.

My favorite line:
What kind of movies would scare werewolves? Ones about dog catchers or massive parvovirus infections?
Teats not tits

I don't like sex in my books that doesn't involve the MCs, even if it's a couple from a previous book. That's just for titillation and adds nothing to the story. (Still love that the alpha of North America is a bottom.)

Great angst, believable reactions for someone who'd been tortured for so long.

How did Ryder get turned? He willingly bit someone's dick during orgasm? How would that work even if he were drugged?

Peril not so great this time around. It was hinted at but again, best stuff happened off page.

But the angst stuff brings it back up a notch.

I give it a 4.5

I was rather disappointed in the last book in the series but this one is a winner and my new favorite. The story's well written, smooth flowing, has a complicated plot, Harley and Val have nicely developed personalities and vivid descriptions. Both men are carrying around lots of heavy emotional baggage but over the course of the story learn how to deal with them individually and as a couple. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the story interesting and moving along to the end. It's highly entertaining and I hope the next one is just as good.

Okay, I admit I should have read these in order but I didn't so my opinion is probably not as high as it should be. The book was well written and it had some fairly dirty sexy stuff (which I LOVE) so bonus points for that. However, I didn't see Harley's rescue or Val being attacked so I started a little behind. That being said, I do think these two made an adorable couple. They accepted each other faults and all and neither was perfect by any means. I'm hoping to get a story about Ryder (I haven't looked yet) because he's gonna be a tough one to mate. :)

After a few weak books in the series, I'm happy to say that I found this book to be of the same quality as the first few. The story line was engaging and trim. The sex, while hot and frequent, did not overpower the story line and drive the novel. The development of both main characters was appropriate and believable. The main secondary character, Ryder, was developed enough to give him some flesh and set the stage for a book of his own in the future.
Ditch the British spellings and I'll be a happy camper!

Interesting story development although I hate how the story isn't consistent (i.e. I wish the author would just give readers a continuation of the story from where the book was last left off instead of using fillers to extend and complicate the plot). Anyway it was an interesting read what with there being rogue shifters turning people into shifters and the knowledge that there are things out there that can permanently damage a shifter besides datura.

One man’s fear is pushed aside when he meets a man he can’t resist in this captivating m/m paranormal romance. This story is enjoyable and entertaining with some surprises and it introduces some new characters both friend and foe. I think Harley and Val just might be my new favorites of the shifters although I do wonder if Harley will ever agree to be turned into a shifter.

This installment though short tied in nicely with the rest of the series. I am glad Val got his wolf back and a mate - that the mate was Alex's one night stand, who I thought was feisty and needed his own HEA was a nice surprise.
