37 books35 followersEileen Ainsworth was born on 16 December 1940 in the South-West of Scotland, where she brought up. She wrote since she was seven, but she decided become a teacher. After graduating she went to teach in the USA for a year - and stayed 18 years. She married Ian Ramsay, a Scottish mathematics scientist working on the first moon shots. They had two chidren. They returned to their native Scotland.
Her writing for children and adults has won several awards, including the Constable and Pitlochry trophies from the Scottish Association of Writers and the Romantic Novelists' Association's Elizabeth Goudge Award. In 2004 she was short listed for the Romantic Novel of the Year award.
Eileen is an honorary member of the Angus Writers Circle, was vice-president of the Scottish Association of Writers, a member of the Society of Authors and was on the committee of the Scottish branch for about six years and for four was the Secretary, and she was elected the twenty-seventh Chairman (2015-2017) of the Romantic Novelists' Association.

En Amor sin fin tengo dos opiniones extremas.
La historia de fondo, en la que se involucra a Blaise y Tony me encantó.
Viven, y sobreviven a través de situaciones extremas y el amor que surge entre ellos me atrapó y me mantuvo interesada a lo largo del libro. Si solo se hubiera narrado esta historia le hubiera dado las cinco estrellas, pero no.
Lo que odié sobre este libro es la historia de Holly. Creo que en pocos libros me he topado con un personaje tan pobre como este. Ni su inicio, ni su desarrollo y menos aún su final me gustaron. Y eso incluye a los personajes alrededor de ella, ninguno se salva.

I've been back in a reading slump and then decided to dig out this beauty. I'm so excited to read it again (apologies, as you can see, the front cover went missing some years back).

Holly Noble goes on an absolute roller coaster to try and discover why and HOW her beloved aunt Tony managed to keep a 50 year long affair with a world famous opera singer. When did they meet? Why didn't they ever get married? Why can't Holly remember him even though her aunts paintings portray a younger Holly playing with him when she'd go to visit? Tony told Holly she could do whatever she wanted with the paintings. "No one is alive now who cares anyway"... is that true?

This book is incredibly moving, mysterious, emotion evoking and easy to read. It is told over two different time lines, spanning over 5 decades and asks as many questions as it answers to come to a head with not one, not two but quite a few big reveals along the way.
I would 100% recommend it if you want to read something equal parts tragic and lovely 📖🥰💜 . It's intense from the very beginning and the literal whispers from the past are written in so well that you get goosebumps...

Ich hatte mich auf einen leichten historischen Roman gefreut, vor allem, da die Protagonisten ein angehender Opernsänger (Blaise) und eine Malerin (Tony) sind. In den Dreißigerjahren treffen die Engländerin und der Franzose aufeinander und verlieben sich sofort in einander, doch die Kriegswirren trennen die beiden. In den Neunzigerjahren desselben Jahrhunderts verwaltet Holly das Erbe ihrer Tante Tony und findet Spuren in eine Vergangenheit. Doch was ist aus der Liebe geworden? Warum hat Blaise ihre Tante nicht geheiratet? Teil ihres Erbes sind Gemälde, die Aufschluss über diese Vergangenheit geben sollen.
Fazit: Das Buch ist sicherlich nicht schlecht geschrieben, doch ich mochte weder die Charaktere, noch die plot-Entwicklung. Allen voran war mit die Protagonisten zu überzogen dargestellt. Sie liebt ihren Verlobten, ist glücklich und im nächsten Moment wird gesagt, dass sie schon seit Monaten unglücklich ist. Es wird viel zu wenig darauf eingegangen, wie es zu diesen zwiespältigen Gefühlen kommt. Ist es Unsicherheit? Hat ihr Verlobter einfach eine gute Fassade? Und natürlich benötig der Verlobte nur das Geld aus dem Erbe. Und ach ja - auch der "Antagonist" ist der sehr früh zu Geld gekommene Taylor, der Nachfahre von Blaise, ein unfassbar gutaussehender Grummelbär, dem keine Frau widerstehen kann.
Das erste Drittel konnte ich noch einigermaßen genießen, aber als es dann an die Auflösung kam, warum Blaise nicht mit Tony verheiratet ist, hätte ich das Buch am liebsten mit Eselsohren traktiert. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt war das Ende ebenfalls vorhersehbar und daher kann ich dem Buch auch nur drei Sterne geben.

Pensé en esta novela como una lectura de transición entre el poemario y las enseñanzas de Neville Goddard.
Pero me ha sorprendido gratamente, debo ser una de esas pocas personas que se sienten fascinadas por los amores trágicos o las historias sin "comieron perdices y fueron felices". En apareciencia la protagonista femenina es Holly la sobrina de la pintora Tony, quien recibe un legado inesperado a la muerte de su tía. A partir de ahí su vida se comienza a tambalear, y junto con el sobrino del que fuera el amor de la vida de Tony (el famoso cantante de ópera Blaise) tendrán que lidiar con secretos, sentimientos y una historia que les supera a ambos y eclipsa a cualquier otro personaje. No en vano son Tony y Blaise que se conocen en el primer año universitario (estudiantes de bellas artes y música respectivamente), y comienzan un romance que perdurará más de 60 años, separados por mentiras, guerra, conveniencias y unidos por una pasión más allá de todo raciocinio. Es una historia agridulce pero que se paladea como un plato exótico. Nada tan exótico como la vida cotidiana, la realidad social, los errores humanos, los accidentes, las promesas incumplidas.

Part of the reason for my low stars is that I was expecting a different kind of book. This book is a romance novel, not completely trashy with heaving chests etc, but not much better. I've been on a Europe during WWII kick and I thought this would be about that and lost art works. It did shift between Holly Noble and her Aunt Tony's lives. Tony Noble was a young woman in WWII and found the love of her live in London, before the war separated them. When Tony passes away, Holly uncovers a stash of Tony's artworks and discovers Tony's secret life.

Schmetterlingstage verbrachte ich keine mit diesem Buch. Die Seiten plätschern belanglos vor sich hin. Schottland, Kunst, Liebe, Krieg und ein bisschen Drama, ein bisschen Kitsch... aber eben, von allem nur ein bisschen und von Klischee zu Klischee, nett aber mich hat es nicht gefesselt, da bin ich doch von meinem wirklichen Leben weit mehr angetan...

Es el primer libro que leo de esta autora y me ha gustado mucho.
He sentido pena por la historia de Tony, y me ha encantado el final de ambas historias de amor.
La recomiendo sin dudar.

I think this book will stay in my heart forever. This love story had a bit of everything, comedy, tragedy, happiness. There is one long-lasting, all enduring love that flows all the way through the book, with a newly blossoming romance as well. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

El libro transcurre entre dos historias, una pasada y una actual. La historia pasada es conmovedora y atrapante, la actual mas de lo mismo.... Esas historias de amor que a los 2 minutos de introducidos los personajes ya conoces como termina.

Ich habe keine Ahnung, warum dieses Buch so viele Jahre ungelesen in meinem Regal gestanden hat. Gut, es ist sehr vorhersehbar, die gängigen Klischees werden erfüllt und es ist schnulzig. Sogar sehr schnulzig, aber ich liebe es.
Antonia - Tony - Noble und Blaise Fougère lernen sich als Jugendliche kennen und verlieben sich sofort ineinander. Diese Liebe hält ihr ganzes Leben lang an. Allerdings weiß niemand etwas davon, denn Blaise ist ein Startenor und verheiratet, Tony eine bekannte Malerin. Als Tony stirbt, kommt ihre Nichte Holly ins Spiel. Holly findet in Tonys Cottage in Schottland auf dem Dachboden den Beweis dieser lebenslangen Liebe in Form von Bildern, die Tony gemalt hat. Sie möchte die Bilder verkaufen, weil dies nach Hollys Meinung der letzte Wunsch von Tony war, aber Blaises Neffe Taylor ist dagegen und tut alles, was in seiner Macht steht um Holly vom Verkauf abzuhalten.
Das Buch ist in zwei Zeitebenen geschrieben. Einmal beginnend ab Mitte der 1930er Jahre mit Tony und Blaise und dann Ende der 1990er Jahre mit Holly und Taylor. Die Autorin hat sich darauf verstanden, die Nähe und die starke Zuneigung oder auch Abneigung der handelnden Personen perfekt einzufangen. Nicht selten kullerten bei mir ein paar Tränchen. Da Tony alles, was sie gefühlt hat, als Bild dargestellt hat, steht der Fokus auf den von Holly ausgestellten Bildern. Sie erzählen Kapitel für Kapitel wichtige Stationen in Tonys und Blaises Leben.
Blaise ist Franzose und so hat die Autorin sehr viele französische Begriffe in den Roman einfließen lassen. Diese sind aber nicht so schwer, dass man sie nicht verstehen könnte, sie runden vielmehr das Bild dieser wunderschönen Geschichte ab.
Ich kann das Buch jedem, der kitschige Mädchenromane, die in Schottland spielen, mag sehr empfehlen. Alle anderen sollten die Finger davon lassen.

I am totally NOT into romantic books but i liked this novel because of the heroine Holly is one of the most likable characters ever created. She is very strong willed and humane and you can easily relate her character.
The Thing i disliked about this book were:
1> I HATED HATED the 'past love story' it was extremely annoying as one chapter was present and one was past. After reading the dreadful past 1-2 chapters I skipped all past chapters altogether and read only present ones. The past was not even a love story it was more like a cheap affair.
2> The hero. He is another one of those sleazy romance novel hero as you know the so called "tall, dark handsome" types. He was not totally unlikable but I didn't care if he went off and jumped off the cliff.
But I give this novel three stars as I said above due the the heroine and her self realization and also I loved the the beautiful locations described in the book. :)

Es un libro que me enamoro y desenamoro, me hizo llorar y reír.
Con dos puntos de vista de dos mujeres completamente diferentes, contando su forma de ver y vivir el amor, ya sea de una forma buena o mala. Dando a conocer que a veces las circunstancias nos hacen tomar decisiones que conllevan consecuencias que afectan la vida de los demás. Es una historia muy bonita y recomendable, me hizo ver el arte y escuchar sonidos inimaginables.
Cuando lo leí me quede un poco confundida, pero poco a poco todo se iba desglosando, que aunque ya supieras el fatídico final, siempre tenías la esperanza de que Tony fuera feliz o que Blaise pudiera estar con ella como lo prometieron alguna vez.

April 28, 2016love makes you fly..love grows in hearts...time cannot stop the beating of the hearts which are in love. to love some one is the greatest of gifts. love endures....even when they drew apart their love never diminished..one thing time could not overcome was their love for one another.....they loved one another till time set them apart. still their love was beyond everything....it was beautiful...their paintings and their music.... their love...I have read this book over and over again...and yet it's fondness does not diminish...hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have...

La historia de una tía que al morir deja en herencia a su sobrina todo lo que posee. La sobrina pensando que lo que le había dejado eran las pocas pertenencias de su tía en vida, se asombra al descubrir joyas y valiosas pinturas que la tía pinto... todas alrededor de un romance del que nunca supo.

amor sin fin es una bella historia, esta demas decir que Blaise & Taylor me han conquistado. Tony es una mujer maravillosa, fragil pero a la vez tan fuerte. y Holly, en ocaciones queria darle bofetadas, en especial con su relacion John, lo que mas me gusto es que ella no se rindio, queria hacerle un tributo a su querida tia y lo logro.
es una bella historia, pero a la vez triste, es uno de esos libros que con leerlo una vez basta. creo que la historia quedara en mi para siempre.-

Not my kind of book but was quite enjoyable to read. Story seems a bit far-fetched, falling in love with someone who murdered an important person in your life seems a bit impossible for me. But as they say, never say never.

This is a classic time-slip novel. The writing is beautiful and the story haunting. Lovely. One of my all time favourite novels.
