Cricket Creek, Kentucky, is a sweet river town known for its theater, shopping, and cuisine. Suddenly the man who knows all about making money finds himself needing lessons in love and what really matters in life…

I enjoyed this book. It has a lot of heart and humor, and the characters are fun and likable. For those who would like an older couple romance, you'll find a great one here with the secondary couple.
"Whisper's Edge" was #4 in the Cricket Creek series. As with the other three previous in the series there was a non angst love story with secondary characters. In this case the secondary characters were in their 50's and 60. I didn't feel their age, only the sweet love they had for each other which was adorable. Of course our main H/h, Tristan and Savannah, were fun to watch as they found love with each other. This story was very predicable but I still enjoyed it. The only negative issue I had, which was the reason I held back the half star to make 5, was I didn't have the same strong connection that I had with the characters in the previous books of this series. That being said I still enjoyed it.
Sweet, light-hearted romances are so comforting. That’s exactly how I would describe this book – comforting. Savannah is a sweet, kind-hearted person who loves her job as the director of a retirement village called Whisper’s Edge. She is loved by the residents, who treat her as a member of their families. When the facility falls on hard financial times (who isn’t familiar with this situation by now?!), the future appears somewhat grim. It’s here where Tristan, the grandson of a resident, invests and saves the retirement facility and Savannah’s future.
The relationship that develops between Tristan and Savannah is predictable, but so perfect and sweet. It literally makes you smile from the inside out. It’s one of those love stories that inspires the genre of romance time and time again. They just compliment each other brilliantly. The residents at the facility add a bit of fun too!
Overall, this book is warming. It warms your heart and your soul – perfect to curl up with and enjoy!
I love this series by Luann McLane. Savannah Perry and Tristan McMillan both thought they were happy until they met each other. Tristan bought Whispers Edge and had plans for the community but once he fell for Savannah he changed his plans for the community. He and Savannah worked through differences and get their happy ever after. Kate and Ben are also discovering that just because they are older does not mean they cannot enjoy each other's company

Hot shot lawyer Tristan McMillan is ready to show his grandfather who is the better man. He bought the run down retirement community from his financially bankrupt and emotionally bankrupt grandfather. The land is right in the middle of town, near the new baseball stadium, and right on the water, the perfect location for a new marina and fancy waterside restaurant. He has come to Town to find either an investor or someone willing to purchase the land outright for a tidy profit.
That last thing he wanted was for the residents of this little retirement community to consider him their hero. Nor did he count on the perky little redhead who runs the community center to think he’s her personal hero…actually he kinds of likes that since he can’t seemed to get Savannah Perry out of this thoughts.
This draw she has for him is not good for business. If he makes the hard decision to sell the property for profit, neither Savannah nor the residents of Whisper’s Edge will ever forgive him. He’ll need to choose between money and love, and with a lifetime of desire to show up his bitter grandfather, can love win out?
THOUGHTS: This was a nice, sweet romance. Cricket Creek gives off a quaint, small town charm that takes you back in time. We also see several of the other characters from prior books who have all been wooed by the small town charm and charming, small town girls and how they are helping the community grow strong.
You could quickly see that this was the type of book where our hero would eventually give in to the charm of the girl, the neighbors and the desire to do right by everyone and that he would find a way to save the retirement community and keep the girl.
Savannah had the usual orphan upbringing, bounced around from bad foster home to bad foster home, but nothing dark in her past, no abuse, etc. She runs out of money right when she gets to Whisper’s Edge and ends up being “adopted” by the woman in charge as well as the residents. She is perky and very appreciative of everything that has come to her since getting to Cricket Creek. She is so perky you want to hate her, but you can’t and just like Tristan you fall for her charm.
The only things that disappointed me was that I had chosen this book in hope that there would be some feisty senior citizens around with great stories or crazy antics, like a great Betty White type character. What’s the point of the senior community storyline if you don’t run with it? There were a few scenes with Miss Patty or the sexy George-Hamilton-like twins who had all the woman drooling, but these scenes were more on the mild side, but really not enough overall or with nearly enough liveliness.
If you like a sweet, simple romance, and we all do from time to time, this story and the rest of the Cricket Creek series is definitely worth looking into.
Romance blooms within a small town featuring a retirement community in crisis. Two couples find their way to HEA in Cricket Creek.
We read this book as a group read to discuss at Romance Junkies readers so I read it first before getting to the first three books in this series which are waiting in my print TBR Mountain Range. That wasn’t a confusing way to start the series at all, so don’t be afraid to try this one out of order.
Savannah Perry is the social director at a retirement community where she works and lives. Not old enough to be retired herself, she has found a home more like family in this community of residents who have adopted her as their own. Not having a family has been hard on Savannah over the years and it has taught her to appreciate the one she has developed amongst these kind-hearted, as well as quirky, neighbors.
Tristan McMillan thinks he has his life goals all figured out until he meets Savannah Perry. Welcoming a new career after his experience as a lawyer, Tristan takes over his grandfather’s failing retirement property. A vision of what it could be, as well as the challenge to prove to his grandfather his business savvy, has Tristan focused on much more than anyone else imagines.
Will a retirement community in crisis survive in Cricket Creek when profit is the end goal?
WHISPER’S EDGE is the fourth book in author LuAnn McLane’s CRICKET CREEK series and takes place within a failing retirement community of mobile homes. I couldn’t help but love these engaging residents as they try to protect and encourage their well-loved social director. Savannah fits right in with her own quirky personality, unmarried and anticipating her thirtieth birthday with no prospects for romance until Tristan McMillan rescues her from a pool mishap. Their attraction is immediate but can Savannah get past the idea that he’s her new boss?
WHISPER’S EDGE has a secondary romance between Savannah’s mother-like friend, Kate, and the handyman, Ben. It’s really a nice change to have an older couple finding love as a secondary romance, and it added to the story for the couples to double-date. Kate and Ben ended up being my favorite characters, creating some entertaining laugh-out-loud moments and I’m hoping for a few more of my favorite older residents to find romance in the future.
Cricket Creek is a cute small town with challenges very much like most small towns today. The residents’ positive attitude and ways of helping one another through a financial crisis will make you smile. Author LuAnn McLane creates small town scenes that are easy to imagine because they’re so very much like real small town life. Come on in and sit a spell, you’ll taste the craft beer and want to find karaoke near you.
Savannah Perry grew up bouncing from one foster home to the next as a child. Until she stumbled into the retirement community of Whisper's Edge in Cricket Creek, Kentucky she never had a real home. Savannah’s boss Kate took one look at her and gave her the great job of social director for the community which Savannah loves almost as much as the residents. The only problem in Savannah’s life is her lack of a social life and interacting with people her own age but that changes when Tristan McMillan, Whisper’s Edge’s new owner, comes into her life and turns everything upside down.
Tristan McMillan has one goal after buying Whisper’s Edge from his grandfather and that is to make enough money so his mother can retire and to rub it in his grandfather’s face after the way he treated his mother when she found out she was pregnant with Tristan. What Tristan didn’t expect was to fall in love with the residents of Whisper’s Edge or the curvy, sexy social director Savannah. Tristan now has to decide which is more important revenge or true love?
I was a little weary about starting Whisper’s Edge just because I had such a hard time with Pitch Perfect, the last book in this series. I am very happy to say the series is back on track and Whisper’s Edge was very cute, funny and full of romance. This book moves away from the Cricket Creek Cougar baseball team that the other books have revolved around and moved on to Whisper’s Edge, Cricket Creek’s retirement community. I thought that not having the series revolve around the baseball team was a breath of much needed fresh air and it was fun to meet different people in the community.
Whisper’s Edge tells two different stories one of Savannah and Tristan but also of Kate, Savannah’s boss and Ben, a widower living in Whisper’s Edge. I liked the parallels of one couple finding love for the first time and the other couple finding it again after a lot of heartache and loss. I felt that both stories flowed together very nicely and neither took away from the other. I am usually not a fan of multiple plots being told at once but these two worked together and added instead of taking away from one another.
Whisper’s Edge is a very cute contemporary romance and is everything that Cricket Creek fans will want. I’m very excited to see where this series goes next and I hope that we get to continue to meet more the residents and explore more of Cricket Creek with future books. I’m so happy this series is back on track!
Although I had not yet read any of author Luann McClane's books before, I knew that I wanted to read Whisper's Edge as soon as I saw the book's description on Goodreads. It seems this book is part of a series of books named Cricket Creek novels, each taking place in the small town of Cricket Creek Kentucky.
The main focus of this newest installment centers on the town's retirement community named Whisper's Edge. It is a struggling community, suffering from hard economic times as well as neglect by the previous owners. When the residents find that the community has a new owner they feel as if their prayers have been answered. Unbeknownst to them, the new owner, Tristan McMillan only sees dollar signs, and plans to sell the community for a profit.
The book begins as Tristan is arriving at Whisper's Edge to take a look at his new investment. Hearing a commotion by the pool, he goes there to find the community's social director, Savannah Perry splashing around in the water trying to rescue one of the resident's dog. Thinking that she is drowning, Tristan quickly jumps in to save her. After her pulls both the dog and Savannah to safety, he finds out that Savannah could indeed swim and that the whole rescue was a misunderstanding. And when Tristan introduces himself as the new owner of the property, Savannah is mortified, thinking that she will be fired. But Tristan laughs off the misunderstanding, and assures her that her job is intact.
This begins the charming tale of a quaint Southern town and it's quirky senior inhabitants. It is also a sweet romantic comedy as well. I have no doubt that you too will be captivated by all of the endearing characters of this book. As you come to know Savannah, her boss Kate, Tristan, Ben, the community's handyman, and the rest of the residents of Whisper's Edge, you will be hoping for that Happily Ever After just like I did. You will be pulled in by the budding romances of not only Savannah and Tristan, but also of Kate and Ben.
I so enjoyed this sweet story, and I found myself smiling often as I read it. And being a fan of Southern romantic comedies, I will definitely be adding LuAnn McClane to my list of author's to follow.
I would like to thank the ladies @ Book Binge for providing me with a copy of this book for my review.
Savannah loves living in Whisper's Edge and hopes she can continue for years to come. She grew up in foster care and enjoys the feeling of family she gets while being the social director here. She knows it is for sale and hopes for the best when a new owner comes along.
Tristan McMillan is the grandson of Maxwell McMillan, the current owner of Whisper's Edge, he recently purchased the property from his grandfather and although he has always hated him because of the way he treated Tristan's mother, he wants to show him that he is a worthy person. Tristan wants to turn a profit on the property, whether it is to sell to another or develop it himself.
When Tristan suffers an embarrassing encounter at Whisper's Edge the residents assume he is here to save their community. Little do they know that he has plans in his office showing what possibilities the area could have.
Savannah and Tristan immediately are attracted to each other and as they enjoy their time together, no one realizes that Tristan is keeping a secret that could change the way Savannah and all the quirky residents live.
This is a very cute and fun story that I enjoyed from beginning to end. It is a light hearted romance that does not take itself too seriously. The residents of the community that take Savannah in and treat her like their granddaughter are fun with many laugh-out loud moments. I enjoyed Savannah's friend and boss Kate who also had a romantic story as her relationship with Ben, a widow who is just starting to feel again becomes a reality.
All in all a wonderful romance for those that love small towns with quirky residents and fun communities.
Received a copy from the publisher for an honest review
I really like Cricket Creek. This latest installment though was... awkward. It was like someone else was writing it. The dialogue and the action was just awkward. I couldn't imagine anyone opening up so deeply to someone they just met as the Hero does. The Hero's character was also muddy. He said he was a nerd, but acted like a high powered lawyer. There were things he said and did that just didn't fit what we had learned about him. And the kicker? We have a heroine who we meet and instantly love. She's fun and compassionate and smart. Wait, maybe she's not smart. McLane can't seem to figure that question out. The heroine doesn't know some "big" words that are actually pretty basic. Now, I know she barely finished high school, but come on. She's a voracious reader. Even if she just reads romance books, reading expands your vocabulary. So, the story was cute, the heroine was lovable and the secondary romance in the book was actually better than the main one. But it was all a little awkward.
Alright hard to rate it as a 4 for romance book--but it was enjoyable, and made me want to read about the other characters in Cricket creek--perhaps I will. Enjoyed Savannah as a former youth in foster care, who aged out and found herself a job/"family" and life...and then a hot man:) Ends up going to Hawaii and checking something off her bucket list, gotta love that! Check!
Luann Mclane never disappoints with her books. All of the cricket creek novels I have read so far have been excellent. This one in particular didn't disappoint. The love that developed between Tristan and Savannah was wonderful. Plus the added bonus of the love between Kate and Ben. This book is definitely worth reading.
This was a great and fast read. I loved all the characters. The characters in their "twilight" years had me laughing out loud with all their antics. I found myself smiling at the sassy attitude of Kate. I would recommend this series to any romance reader. The town is another one that just welcomes you in and makes you feel like you are a part of it.
This one was probably my least favorite of this series. I felt like Savannah whined a little too much. For her to have overcome so much from her childhood I felt she would have been this tough as nails girl, but had too many insecurities. Still a good read, but not as good as the others.
I must say that book 2 and book 4(this one)were my favorites. That being said, this book is like the others. Its ok but the story just feels incomplete in some way. Its like the author hints and more story, but then never gets around to it.
I enjoyed this funny, small-town romance that centers on the retirement community and its quirky residents. I liked that there were two romances--one between a young attorney and the social director and the other between two older characters. It starts with a fun "cute meet" as well.
The 4th book in the series had lots of funny moments. Willy the dog was a great part of the story and the Luann hat two romances going on and you did not know what was going to happen. Now starting her 5th in this series.
