Antiques dealer Annabelle Elder’s life is nowhere near as passionate as the erotic art she collects. A cheating ex-boyfriend and her business have seen to that. So when she attends a New Year’s Eve party at Haven Hotel, she sees a chance to blow off some steam. But she never expected to meet anyone like Jared—or to experience such passion in his arms…

But unrestrained passion in the bedroom is not the only spark between Annabelle and Jared. Their mutual attraction is confounded by their separate pasts. Caught in an ever-growing web of painful secrets and sensual fantasy, will they be able to face the truth about themselves and trust in true love?

So,Annabelle, Belle as we are going to call her, has bought New Year’s Eve tickets for her and her friend Kate to attend a swanky party at the Haven Hotel. She meets Jared, one of the hotel’s co-owners, and they have eyes only for one another and he invites her to a much more private and hedonistic party. Their first night together is full of delicious sex but neither is being very honest with the other and, by next morning, Belle overhears a conversation not meant for her ears and storms out.
Jared spends a lot of time tracking her down – not easy as she’s living under an assumed identity. He can’t let her go – despite his hedonistic lifestyle and lack of desire to find just one woman, something about Belle really calls to him and she’s never far from his thoughts.
This is quite a multi-faceted story – there’s a lot going on here. We have hidden pasts, missing antiques, family trauma, personal heartbreak with the addition of a great love story. It’s much more than porn without plot but it is an erotic romance novel and, oh boy, does Stephanie Julian know how to write seriously hot, melt your e-reader, sex scenes. I really think they’re some of the hottest I’ve ever read especially when you add Jared's friend Dane into the mix as well for some really delicious, almost dream-like ménage scenes. It’s an incredibly sensual, deeply seductive read.
I really liked Jared as our main hero. He’s grown up with money, privilege and family dysfunction yet still manages to remain grounded, caring and protective of those he loves. He’s a blond, blue-eyed Adonis and he’s able to completely sweep Belle off her feet, literally and figuratively.
Belle is a bit of a sweetheart too – she’s been hurt before and has also had a very conventional upbringing, deeply marred by tragedy, but she’s managed to put all this behind her and is now moving forward. She’s perfect for Jared and he knows it.
So this is a great contemporary erotic romance with a bit of a fated-to-be-mated theme going on with the lost jewellery. It’s the first part of a series but there’s no cliffhanger, Jared’s and Belle’s story is complete by the end of this one and the series will continue with other characters from the book.
My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed. The whole story had built their growing feelings for one another so well that it all happened a little too fast in the end but I am very much looking forward to whatever the author comes up with next. Either Dane or Tyler, Jared’s brother, need to find their forever girl!
3 1/2 stars-–Erotic romance with a good, solid plot centered around art. As many know, I'm not a fan of ménage and there were two ménage scenes in this book. I found these scenes worked for the plot and were tastefully done. Overall, I enjoyed this story.
This was easily one of the hottest erotic books I've ever read.. One of the things that really pushed it over the edge though was the fact that it wasnt just book porn.. it was erotic with a real story!!! A lot of erotica is just simply alot of good smutty sex.. not the case here.. The sex was through the roof hot and the chemistry between Jared and Belle was sexy and real. I really hope that Stephanie Julian is going to be writing Kate's story next.. she's Belle's best friend. Her and Jared's brother had a connection and we definitly need to see where that goes! This is my first book by Ms. Julian and I will for sure be checking out her other titles. She sold me with this one!
Wanting to experience a night like she’s never had before, Annabelle is recovering from breaking up with her jerk of a boyfriend and wants to let loose. She enlists her best friend Kate to go with her to a New Year’s Eve party at Haven Hotel and meets the most gorgeous man, Jared Golden. He, along with his brother Tyler, owns the hotel and after a few dances together, she gets her wish and has a hot, semi-private sex with Jared in the hotel gardens. Jared wants to invite Annabelle to an exclusive gathering at the hotel in the Salon; a place where fantasies come true and anything goes. Annabelle, feeling alive for the first time in years, agrees and it’s the start of a sexual relationship with Jared that makes her come alive and experience feelings and desires she never thought possible.
Annabelle is hiding a painful secret about her parents that rocked her world when she was a young girl. The scandal surrounding her was so devastating her Grandfather helped her change her name, set up a new past and buried the truth about her parents so she could live in peace. One piece of her past that remained somewhat hidden was the art her father created – the hidden fact being that the artist was her father. The pictures show her parents relationship in an erotic and sensual way as it was a relationship that was not considered the norm and was the ultimate cause of the scandal. Jared, being an art collector, noticed the pieces her dad created in both Annabelle’s antique shop and her home and was instantly curious about her and her connection to the artist. He starts digging into her past and that is never a good thing for a hero to do.
“I absolutely love a man in boxer briefs.” Her sexy voice reached out and stroked his libido, making his balls tighten and his cock throb. (…)
Reaching for some of his legendary control, he leaned back into the couch. “Why don’t you come here and take them off me?”
Annabelle had never in her life seen anything as sexy as Jared Golden reclining on her couch in only his boxer briefs.
He should have been a Calvin Klein underwear model. He certainly had the body for it – broad shoulders and muscular chest, washboard abs, slim hips and powerful thighs. A swimmer’s body.
When did the man find time to work out? And why did she care when he was spread out like a banquet just for her?
I really enjoyed these two characters. Both Jared and Annabelle are so likable. They care about their families and friends, they work hard and they’re sexy as hell together. They go into their relationship not expecting or wanting more than sex, but sex turns into dates, which turns into a working together, and that leads to spending more time with each other. They’re so erotic, every sex scene between them is hot ranging from hard and fast, against the wall sex, to pushing Annabelle’s limits when Jared invites his best friend Dane to join them, to sweet and romantic moments. They just worked as a couple on all levels, they’re very engaging and it was easy to get swept up in their story.
A nice supporting storyline is the interest building between Tyler and Kate. Tyler’s had pain in his past, losing the woman he loved to an illness. Kate was engaged to a man she didn’t love and after breaking it off, it felt like she was crushed more for losing the dream of a husband, family, and home then she was losing the man himself. There are big sparks between Tyler and Kate and I can’t wait for more. I’ll be interested to see what role the Salon plays in Tyler’s book as he’s not into that scene at all. I can’t imagine he’ll stay completely away once he and Kate get together.
This story hooked me from the start and didn’t let go. It’s erotic without going overboard with the sex scenes and Jared and Annabelle are so easy to root for. I loved seeing them separately dealing with their families or their jobs, but they really came alive when they were together. A steamy read I’d definitely recommend.
Really enjoyed this book. I can't wait to read more in the series. Full review on Fiction Vixen Book Reviews
Annabelle Elder is going to give herself one night of fun. From a bad relationship to a consuming business she has no time for herself. She decides to buy two tickets to the New Year’s Masquerade at Haven Hotel in Philadelphia. The party promises good food, dancing and yummy drinks. She will take her best friend Kate, they will have the time of their lives and then she will return to her business.
Jared Golden loved beautiful women, cold champagne, and the hum of a well-run party.
Not always in that order.
Jared and his brother are the owners of the Haven Hotel. He loves a good party. In fact, he lives for a good party or anything that will thumb the nose of his stuffy father. Since the day he saw his father cheating on his mother he has been angry and skeptical of relationships. Sure his mother with her mental health problems was no picnic to live with but that didn’t excuse his father hurting her.
When Jared first sees Belle he is captivated. Something about her is different from the other women in the room. She is natural, open and wonderfully sensual. He is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. After spending several hours with her he invites her to the after party or the Salon Games. The Salon Games are ten people who come together to enjoy any and all hedonistic pleasures. They sign confidentiality agreements so nobody can be outed. Belle decides to take a chance and attends the games with Jared. There she experiences pleasure beyond anything she has ever known but with the morning comes a misunderstanding between Belle and Jared. Belle feels used and leaves Jared to go back to her staid life.
Jared is unable to get Belle out of his thoughts so he uses one of his friends to find her. Because she has felt the sting of scandal Belle has changed her name and buried her identity deep making it hard for Jared to find her. Once he finally does he proposes a business deal. He has been looking for a location to build a new spa and her quiet hometown is the perfect place. If Belle will help him he will let her be the one to furnish the new spa. Belle’s business specializes in erotic art and antiquities so everything she has would be perfect for the look Jared is going for. Not to mention it will keep her close. And he has suddenly realized that he wants her close for more than just a short period of time.
By Private Invitation has so many layers to it. The main layer is the relationship between Jared and Belle. But beneath that is secret that Belle has hidden for most of her life. It is a secret that has kept her from getting close to anyone. Another layer to the story is the misconception Jared has about his parent’s relationship. Towards the end of the story we find out that things might not be as they seem with his father cheating on his mother. Jared has to face the fact that his contempt for his father may be unearned. Even another part of the story focuses on Jared’s grandmother and family jewelry they have had stolen. The jewelry is supposed to facilitate true love and Belle happens to be wearing it. Finally, I cannot leave out the wonderful secondary character in Dane, Jared’s brother and Kate. There is so much going on in the book and it is woven together so seamlessly that it flows like one lovely story.
Of course, I cannot forget to mention the overall hotness factor. The book is about Salon Games. Jared and Belle are smoking hot together. And if you throw in their temporary or possibly permanent? third, Dane, well let me say that there was no lack of creative and steamy parts for this book. While Dane is really the only person we are introduced to in the games I feel like there could be the potential for so many more stories.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I am looking forward to more from this series if we are lucky enough to get it. My one complaint would be the end. It happened too fast. That might be one of the reasons I hope for more books so maybe I can see more of Jared and Belle. Final grade- B+
Annabelle is an antiques dealer and lover of erotic art who recently caught her boyfriend with his head between his secretary’s legs. Oh my…
As a way of consoling herself and forgetting her troubles, Annabelle persuades her best friend to attend a New Years Eve party at a swanky rich people hotel. A hotel owned by the drop dead gorgeous Golden brothers. When Jared Golden sees Annabelle at his gathering, he’s intrigued enough (and turned on enough) to invite her to his “invitation only” private party later that nigh. Annabelle decides to live on the wild side for once and when a second man joins in on their party of two, and their party of three ends up in a voyeuristic party of many, she simply lets all inhibitions go.
Thus begins the entertaining story of the eternally single playboy rich man and the shy, quiet, and low key good girl. Surprisingly, most of the rest of the story centers around their relationship and how they overcome obstacles such as distance and lifestyle differences. Don’t get me wrong…there is a healthy dose of some really, really (really) hot sex…in forbidden places… a couple of them, and with more than just the two of them. After all, Jared has one super hot friend whom he seems to have shared many of his past lovers with. All heterosexually, of course! Don’t get excited, M/M fans.
"Jared didn't thing the guy would notice if a bomb dropped on him. From the expression on his face, Jared could tell the guy had the serious hots for Belle.
And his blood began a slow boil.
He caught himself before he barged in and laid claim to her, like a goddam caveman. Put his arm around her shoulders and draw her into his side. Better yet, press a kiss to her delicate, sensitive nape. She'd shiver and her eyes would flutter closed. The other man, standing with his hands shoved in his pockets, would know she was off limits. His.
Which was ridiculous. He didn't do possessive jealousy. Hell, he actually liked to share."
There is a surprising and original back story involving Annabelle’s unconventional upbringing by her three parent household. I suppose she had a predilection toward threesomes, so this taboo wasn’t necessarily taboo for her. However, she has hidden her past from everyone for years, and Jared is determined to know all there is to know about this woman. After all, he doesn’t normally have women voluntarily leaving him the way Annabelle did after their one night of fun. So the chase is on, and what a chase it turns out to be! Jared is persistent and very…patient and in tune with Annabelle’s needs, including her hidden desire to have four hands roaming her body. One thing that I wish were answered is what happens to the third party of this sporadic arrangement. I’m not clear on whether or not this sexual relationship will continue or if Jared and Annabelle commit to only each other. Somehow, I think not…they enjoyed the situation a bit too much.
I sense another book coming between Annabelle’s best friend and Jared’s brother. They seemed to have a pretty intense connection from the start, despite their pretended indifference. Overall, this was a great read if you want hot sex with a plot. There is a menage, but it's good for readers of the lighter erotic...it doesn't feel lascivious, and there's none of the BDSM that seems to pop up in so much of today's erotica. I feel like I got to know the characters and was invested in their relationship. It was possible slightly forgettable only in that there was nothing to stand out among the masses of erotic fiction out there, but it was satisfying entertainment with little to no editing issues for once. Also, it's a completely self contained story... GASP!!!!!
If that next book does become reality, I will for sure read more by this author!
My thanks to my GR friend Jamie for the rec…you picked a goodie!!
There is just something special about By Private Invitation that captured my imagination and warmed my heart. The book is first and foremost a delightful romance. It’s a refreshing change to enjoy an erotic contemporary romance where the main characters are generally both mentally and emotionally healthy! Both Jared and Annabelle have a robust sexual appetite and make no excuses for wanting a “no strings attached” relationship. However, once they spend time with each other, they realize that there is more between them than just hot sex (and *fans self* it is HOT!)
Although they come from different backgrounds, Annabelle and Jared have much in common. I love that Jared wanted Annabelle to talk about her work and art just as much as he wanted her sexually. As the couple get to know one another, we learn that Annabelle has a pretty big secret... and I admit it took me by surprise! The reveal happens fairly early on, and the twist adds an additional layer of complexity to an already interesting tale.
Despite the fact that Annabelle’s secret plays a fairly significant roll in the story, much of the interactions between the different characters is fairly open and honest. Once of my favorite scenes is a frank discussion between Jared and his parents. In addition, both main characters are sincere with themselves as they evaluate their own feelings and the situation.
In the end, I was totally choked up during the climatic scene between Jared and Annabelle. The display of raw emotion was touching and just plain awesome. Overall, By Private Invitation is a hot, sensual story, full of great heart and a pleasure to read. It makes the list of "My Favorite Books." I cannot wait to read the next book!
After going through a horrible break up that involved seeing her boyfriend in between the legs of his secretary, Annabelle is determined to have fun, even if it is for one night. There’s a New Year’s Eve costume party at the infamous Haven Hotel and she’s got two tickets for her and her friend Kate. Just one night of fun is all she needs before she goes back to her life as an antiques and erotic art dealer.
Smooth, charming and rich as all hell, Jared is considered to be a class A playboy. He lives life classy, flashy and no strings attached. As part owner of the Haven Hotel he not only brings his style and charisma to the hotel but his naughty side as well. By creating one floor known as the Salon for his closest friends where they can explore their most intimate desires, Haven Hotel is considered to be an exclusive good time. And there’s nothing better to Jared than women, drinks and a good party. With his New Year’s Eve extravaganza in full swing Jared thinks it will be another night of drinking, socializing and an after party up at the Salon, or so he thinks.
When Annabelle and Jared meet, it’s lust in full swing. I mean, they’re HOT! I want to watch them get it on! What I love about this book is that it’s considered erotic but without the cheap feel that some erotic novels leave you with. It also doesn’t have the classic male dominant force meets classic pathetic female and poof they’re in love. Annabelle and Jared actually enjoy playing both roles and I LOVE that, mainly because that is just the type of gal I am. *wink*
These two are actual grownups with real problems, real jobs and a real healthy appetite for getting it on at any given opportunity, at any given time. They have a way of making outdoor sex seem sensual and ground breaking without it feeling smutty. Annabelle and Jared drown in passion for one another; they drip with a raw, animalistic need that just seems right.
But of course no story is complete without its share of some kind of drama and in this case it happens to be their pasts. Annabelle and Jared are prisoners of their pasts. But one thing is for sure, they can’t stay away from each other no matter how hard they try.
By Private Invitation is just sexiness. So what are you waiting for? Read it!
Yum, yum, yum! It all began with a New Year's celebration and Belle was looking to get a little lucky... This one had been on my TBR list for quite some time and quite happy I picked this one up to read! Stephanie Julian is a GREAT writer. There was a lot of character development and build up but then looking down at my Kindle with only 10% left I felt a lot needed to happen! I think that was my biggest disappointment with this one is that the ending was incredibly rushed. I will definitely be reading the next one though - it sets up very well for another character's story that sounds even yummier!
I am not into stories about M/F/M.. but I really enjoyed this one because it kept that light and it wasnt the focus to the story. Story line was different.. Finally an independent strong and smart woman, not a damzel in distress who needs to be saved.. definitely knows what she wants in life. So I guess I just really identified with Annabelle in this story..
4 1/2 stars. Very steamy with a strong, well thought out story. It was sexy yet not something that I've read a million times over in different variations. It made for a very refreshing read.
Omg, I LOVED the first extended scene (the first night they met). I loved the book's steam. They were both kidding themselves all along when they said they weren't doing/wanting a relationship, when all along, the way they were seeing each other, they were just in a relationship without the label.
The whole antiques & that Anabelle was the daughter of a famous painter was interesting. I really think Anabelle has a Venus in Gemini. At dinner with Jared, he apparently asked her about "the area, traffic, construction, development, other businesses. He kept her occupied and entertained, his nimble mind always onto the next subject before an awkward silence could form." Tell me how that's interesting dinner conversation...I will wait.
The ending got resolved a little too fast for me. I would have liked a marriage proposal or something, or just more, you know. Also, was there any media on Anabelle's gallery opening? Because last time they were brutal with the news about her parents.
Also I wonder if they'll probably do a menage again with Dane in the future. I mean, maybe. But they don't really need him to spice up their sex life; it's pretty hot as it as already. I was surprised they didn't double penetrate Annabelle during the menage, because that's the best reason why u would want 2 men in bed with you.
Thanks to Paulette at Alphas Review for sending me a link on New Year's in which free Kindle books were being promoted. That's how I was able to read this book!
First I'd like to just say that this series needs to continue past just one more book and I hope Ms Julian will make that happen. The hotel and all it's many sensual capabilities should be enough to write a long healthy storyline of HEAs for at least a 10 novel series. After all, there are 10 guest invited to the after-party every year ;) it reminds me of Kate Pearce's series House of Pleasure .. it has potential and Ms Julian is a very entertaining author who makes sure that her story is well rounded. There was sex, a lot of it, but that wasn't everything. I felt like the sexual nature of their relationship was very well balanced with every other aspect, including but not limited to their backgrounds and hang-ups. I really really liked this novel and I hope to see more of it ....
I saw a lot of buzz about this book so I had to immediately have it and start reading it even though I have more books then I will ever read in my life time. I'm not the only one who does that right?
Well Belle and Jared are certainly a smoking hot couple. I'm amazed they didn't spontaneously combust whenever they were within each other's space. Lots of walking erections and wet panties for sure!
I'm going to assume Belle's best friend Kate and Jared's bro Tyler may be getting their own book.
I don't want to give anything away, but you MUST read this book. It sort of reads like 50 Shades of Grey, but the dialogue is so expressive you cannot wait to turn the page. I was so into the book by the first 30 pages I could not wait to finish it. When I was done, I felt like I read through someone else's life. It was full of so much emotion and passion. It was diffidently HOT, but not overtly in your face. I highly recommend this to you!
This was a sweet read with plenty of sizzle. Very well written, you could feel the chemistry jumping off the pages. Very likeable H & H and a good storyline. You will need to like plenty of steamy sex and a couple of M/F/M scenes to enjoy this one. I loved Jared. He was sexy as hell and had a great personality, some family and friends involvement made it a very enjoyable read. Cannot wait for Tyler and Kate to get together.
5 "Jared is so hot" Stars!! Love this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " Right now , my fantasies involve you and whipped cream." She laughed as he`d intended because he`d sensed her thoughts shifting away from the moment." And if I told you I actually have a can in my fridge...." " I`d say take off your clothes, sweetheart " I loved Jared Golden. :)

My Thoughts
How Refreshing it is to get this story - where we have a steamy sexual tension and chemistry among characters, but it's not necessarily in the same realm as private BDSM clubs. In this first installment of the Salon Games series, we meet Annabelle (Belle) while she's with her friend Kate at a New Years party at the lavish boutique Haven hotel in Philly - which happens to be owned by the Sexy and erotically charged Jared Golden and his brother. What happens in Haven, does not stay in haven.\
The ladies have decided that Belle needs to step out of her shell after getting out of a long relationship that wasn't right (she wasn't into it and she felt that she needed more) and Kate is one of those friends that is up for causing trouble. The girls are at a costume ball amongst some of the most beautiful socialites and upon their arrival to the party, they are greeted by Jared and sparks fly at once. Because of Jared's stature and role with the hotel, and his own personal preferences, he continues on with his night for just a bit, but we know that won't last for long.
Upon meeting Belle, Jared notices a beautiful pin that she's wearing and it seems awfully familiar. This pin is something that her grandfather had found at a yard sale of some sort and gave her before he passed away so it has great sentimental meaning for her, but has a different meaning for him. after spending time with Belle, not only is he drawn to the pin (which he thinks may actually be a piece that was stolen from his grandmother years ago) but he's drawn to her - because she's sensual, and not at all the typical woman that he goes for. See, Belle owns her own antique shop and is quite successful on her own. She also has this mysterious past that she HAS to keep hidden for her own safety and that makes things all that much more interesting as the story develops.
Where the story really takes a hot turn is when Jared steers Belle into the gardens for a little personal time and they end up in the private club room - the Salon for a private party that would put any sex club to shame. this is an invitation only place hand picked by Jared and his brother for their friends to experience their greatest fantasies without any inhibitions. The draw for Belle is not only the sensual nature of it all but the antique victorian feel which is one of her favorite periods to immerse herself in.
So, the story begins here, she spends the entire evening with Jared only to be woken up in the morning to overhear a conversation with Jared and his brother about the pin and makes her second guess motives all around. she storms out, a little bit of time passes, Jared figures out where to find her and the roller coaster begins. Belle is shaken up that he was even able to find her since her identity is quite hidden, and what's even worse is that upon setting foot in her small town, he's decided that it would be an ideal location for a new destination spa that he's been looking to open. Their stories are once again intertwined when he asks her to do all of the decor and furnishings in the spa and that brings the sexual tension to the forefront.
What i really enjoyed about this story is that we're given a sense of what caused Belle to be fearful of anyone knowing anything about her. We find that there's a sordid past that surrounds her and that people went to great lengths to hide her identity to keep her safe. We also know that Jared is a power to be reckoned with and that Belle is useless to fight against him.
Where this story goes - we'll have to wait and see in book 2
so my questions
1) will Belle's past come out and will she be safe?
2) what does their new relationship mean to Jared's current life?
3) will kate find happiness?
4) will we get to know Jared's brother more and find him to be happy?
The plot is about a bad boy rich man who sleeps around and doesn't want love or marriage. Annabelle is sometimes a confident woman who owns her own business and doesn't want a relationship and sometimes a woman yearning for a relationship. The viewpoint in the writing can change from one paragraph to another so it's hard to realize that it is Jared's thinking then Annabelle's without a change between the two. It can be confusing to follow.
The overall concept was decent and the sex scenes were hot, but I had trouble with some aspects. For starters, she's fairly innocent but jumps at the chance when he invites her to a sex party (the Salon) then she barely bats an eyelash when another man feels her up while Jared has sex with her in front of a room full of people. She didn't protest but she wasn't asked for permission either. Later on, Jared invites this same man to have a menage with them without discussing it with her. No conversation, no limits, he just shows up and is expected to be ok with it. She is, of course, or the book would flounder but I'm not buying it.
There are also way too many sub plots. Jared's parents, the missing magical pin and ring, Annabelle's true identity, Jared's brother's back story, his brother's attraction to Annabelle's friend, that friend's unwise engagement, etc. Way too many other things were going on and it was just strung together with sex scene after sex scene without the develpment of any real relationship. At times it felt more like connecting the dots than a flowing plot.
I wanted to like it and for the most part the book was fairly good if I ignored the changing view points and tried to believe Jared and Annabelle were more than two-dimensional characters who only cared about having sex. In the end, too many things fell flat.
To start with-- very VERY scorchingly steamy. (Some of the sex scenes in this might not be to everyone's taste-- a menage features pretty prominently.) At the same time, this was far more romantic a story than I'd been expecting.
Honestly, I'm not sure WHAT I'd been expecting with this book. It got a good review that had caught my attention, and so I tossed it on my TBR pile and completely forgot about why, or what it was about. The cover warned me that I was probably straying into romantica territory (which I don't read a lot of), so I didn't have very high expectations for the plot. Color me pleasantly surprised! Yes, there's a lot of sex... but there's also a solid plot, and quite a complicated relationship, and secrets on both sides, and an interesting supporting cast. What started as more like a dare or a rebound relationship was, by the end, a three-hanky book. Annabelle is occasionally a little quick to assume she's been played, but her uncertainty is understandable, given Jared's position and reputation. I even kinda liked the "Aphrodite's Tears" conceit of the magical jewelry that brings together true loves (whether they want to be with someone or not, clearly).
I think I liked this enough that I'm going to keep an eye out for book 2-- I really liked Annabelle's best friend, who's going to be the subject of the next one.
I read this book as a prompt for the 2021 52 Book Reading Challenge - character with the same name as a male family member. This book was available and I thought "why not" so I added it to my kindle.
The premise is interesting. Two grown wealthy white men own a successful high-end hotel, but are not successful in love. Jared has no desire to love and his brother Tyler lost the love of his life to cancer. They run an exclusive by-invitation only Salon sex romp. At a party at their own hotel, Jared and Tyler meet Belle and Kate, best friends from a neighboring smaller town. Kate is engaged, but Belle broke up with her boyfriend a few months ago. She isn't looking for a relationship and this appeals to Jared who is never looking for one either. But there is something different about Belle. Way different.
So the writing itself isn't bad. Unfortunately there are several typos in the text probably due to the kindle conversion which have never been fixed. I was not convinced at all that Jared and Belle had fallen in love with each other. There are other books in the series, the next being about Tyler and Kate which frankly I would think would be a better story. I doubt I would read it though. Like I said, I read this solely for the prompt. Sorry.
This started off good - Annabelle Elder is an antiques dealer. She collects erotic art, but her life is the complete opposite of steamy. When she attends a New Year's Eve party at Haven Hotel with her best friend she decides to be a little more open-minded, especially when she meets handsome, rich, charming Jared Golden and discovers the pleasure palace he has set up in the hotel. Only those who've received invitations may go and nobody will spill what goes on behind closed doors. I liked the fancy hotel and waiting to see what will happen between Annabelle and Jared, who seemed to be interesting as individuals, but things became soo boring between them. It was the same thing over and over and over with one completely weird scene in the middle that had me wondering things like 'why??' and 'what the fuck???' So much heat in their eyes, their blood, their touch, their everything! To be honest I skimmed the hell out of this book after I managed to get to the halfway mark. I caught the part where Annabelle was jealous of the piece of property Jared wanted to buy because that's the way he looks at her.. really????? Ugh.
I honestly wanted to like this book for the story. But the issues far outweighed any benefits. First of all, there seems to have been little to no editing. The author cannot decide whether or not to use ellipses, m-dash, n-dash, random number of spaces, and so on, to organize continued thoughts and separation. She called her main character, named Jared, Joshua at one point. Several common phrases were used incorrectly. And almost every intimate scene was the same terminology, the same order, the same stuff. And it is titled for the Salon, which the couple only visited once together. I mean, it could have been called The Gallery Games more appropriately since they pretty much spent the majority of the time at her house. Repetitive, unnecessary sex scenes made for a boring read, and after a while I began to skim until I got through it merely so I could get to the end and review it for the errors it was riddled with. Edit, edit, edit, review, revise, edit some more—then I may change my review.
