4.5 Kickass Blacktop 'Cowgirl’ Stars!! Another winner in this awesome series! August Fletcher…YUM!

Tanna Barker finds herself in Muddy Gap Wyoming, after a devastating accident and the traumatic events that followed. It’s left her with a paralyzing fear of the animals and the sport she loves so much, horses and barrel racing. She finds herself back with her friends, and is temporarily employed at the Split Rock lodge while she decides what to do with her life. August Fletcher, the local large animal vet, runs a successful practice and his professional life is full, his personal life is another matter. It’s nearly non-existent, other than an occasional meaningless one night stand…until that one-night stand involves a feisty cowgirl from Texas.

Wow…Tanna and Fletch were burning up the sheets at every turn!! They were quick to hop in the sack, but once they get to know each other, their connection was real. They commit to each other short term, and although there are one or two misunderstandings, the relationship is not wrought with angst, something this reader appreciated.

Aside from the hot steamy stuff, which Ms. James writes so well, what I loved most about this book was the real life situations that Tanna and Fletcher were facing. Tanna overcoming her fears, and getting ‘back on the horse’, so to speak, and Fletcher letting go, finding a way around his demanding schedule, allowing the possibility of a permanent relationship and maybe a family someday. This is what is at the core of this book, and reading how they both compromise and support each other, was the beauty of this read.

For the most part, I enjoyed the read except for two things. I love terms of endearment, most of the time, but Fletch’s pet name for Tanna, ‘sugar twang’, had me rolling my eyes. Okay, it was cute at first, but then it got on my nerves.

Also, we are hit with the news that Liberty, Harper’s sister, has a traumatic event happen in her life. I have no doubt that she will become a main character in a book in the series, but I didn’t like that we are left hanging with nothing to pacify us in the meantime.

The addition of all the characters from the prior books was a sweet little extra, especially since I enjoyed reading about them in their own books. The families are growing; lives are being built in and around Muddy Gap, I look forward to seeing all of them in the books going forward. I enjoyed the Mud Lilies again, and I love how the men, particularly Tobin, look after them when they hit the town!

So where does the series go from here?! If I had my guess, it’s going to be Hugh and Harlow, and Tobin…the yumalicious Tobin…and Liberty. Just my gut feeling. Devin…he’s a mystery to me, and I can’t wait for him to find love. No matter who ends up being partnered, I'm in it for the long haul! This series is a winner and I have no doubt that the talented Lorelei James will continue to bring the goods!

Love barrel racing! Fast paced and exciting! It requires a tremendous amount of skill from both the horse and the rider!

♦ 4 "Sugar twang" Stars! ♦

 photo tumblr_nnzxsiYa0M1r2q1q6o1_500_zpsdnlgirux.gif

So a few days ago I decided I was on the mood for a western romance, and who is the best chance for a good erotic western romance? Lorelei James, of course! I loved her Rough Riders series and now, I am enjoying this one as well (but maybe not as much!).

The fifth book in this series is called Turn and Burn and it tells the story of Tanna Barker (a kickass world champion barrel racer who unfortunately has suffered a riding injury) and August Fletcher a.k.a Fletch (a hot on-the-road vet).

“You are trouble,” she murmured, unable to look away from him. Something about this man pulled her in and revved her up.
“No more trouble than you are, spy girl.” He held out a twenty for the bartender without breaking eye contact. “You wanna grab us a booth and we’ll talk about what kinda trouble we can get into together?”

I don't have a lot to say about this book. I mean, if you have read anything by this author and if you enjoy a smokin' western romance, this is a good book to choose and read! Always, my favourite thing about her writing is the good relationship between the main couple and also with the secondary characters. It's good to see glimses on the other couples and their families. Also, it is amazing the chemistry and the sexy times between our two protagonists.

“Look at me.”
She opened her eyes at his soft command.
“Fletch? What’s wrong?”
“Nothin’. Everything is right for once.”

So, short review but my rating for this is 4 STARS because I enjoy a good western romance but I also know better works by Lorelei James. Also, because I am excited to read more about these characters. Recommend if you are into western and hot romance ;)

It just gets better and better..

I didn't realize how much I enjoyed this one until after I finished it...and then kept thinking about it!

World champion barrel racer Tanna Barker (36) had been introduced in a previous book in the series, as well as the hero, veterinarian August "Fletch" Fletcher (I always wanted him to get his own book!). I wasn't that enthralled with Tanna at first (seemed a little too slutty for my tastes), but boy did she grow on me by the end of the book! It's a testament to LJ's storytelling skills that she got me to empathize with Tanna and all that she was going through (with her rodeo injury and her absolute fear of horses) and to root for her "sex only" relationship with Fletch to turn into something real.

Fletch I loved from the get-go. Loved this 6'5" half-Native American stud every time he made an appearance in the previous books, and I was dying for him to get his own story. Tanna matched up with him perfectly sexually (was there nothing that they wouldn't try/do?) and they were one...hot...couple. I absolutely loved the inner dialogue that they both had, as well as their actual dialogue. Tanna had "no filter", and was quite raunchy at times, which was kind of fun. And Fletch had no trouble keeping up with his "sugar twang" (kind of a silly nickname for the native Texan)--this guy could dish it out as well as take it.

Fletch...

I enjoyed the whole emotional journey that Tanna went through--trying to get her nerve (and confidence) back so she could resume her career, and finding a place where she belonged. My absolute favorite scene had to be when Fletch took Tanna riding with him, forcing her to get on a horse again and being right there beside her, (sweet) talking her through it...swoon.

I also enjoyed Fletch's journey from a guy who never had a lasting relationship and only knew a dedication to his career, to becoming a man who wanted something more, but didn't quite know how to get it. I love seeing him falling in love with Tanna, loved how he could be flirty, silly, laid back and charming; loved his modesty and his dedication. Loved when he finally knew Tanna was "the one", and loved how he was willing to sacrifice to get her.

I wanted these two to find a way to be together permanently, and to realize they loved each other. And LJ made it happen (even though it played out a little differently then I imagined).

So yeah, this one was a winner for me. Plenty of plot, backstory and juicy details, and not just a sexfest (although LJ certainly did not skimp on the hot sex). And LJ also revisited (or spoke of) most of the characters from previous books (and there must be something in the water in Muddy Gap, Wyoming, because the women seem to be reproducing at a rate to rival the McKays!)

This series has certainly found its groove, and I can think of a few more characters (like Tanna's brother, for one) who need their stories told. It's nice to know that when the Rough Riders series finally dies out, there's another equally fascinating one to take its place. 4 1/2 stars

*Warning: This book contains explicit dialogue and sex, including oral and one anal scene. Not for the faint of heart.

Still not loving on Lainie, but I got past it!

Tanna you broken soul....momma wanted to wrap you up in a big ole hug!

I loved how these two, who didn’t even know each other’s name, grew to be friends, then lovers and finally soul mates. When you love something, set it free. If it comes back…it’s yours. If it doesn’t…it never was!

Lorelei James writes amazing stories about flawed people who have amazing sex lives and work it hard to get their happily ever after.

the Review...
Two amazing people, both broken and bareback…welcome again to the Blacktop Cowboys series. I loved Tanna in all the other books. She was the no holds barred, take ‘em hard and leave ‘em wanting kind of gal. She won championships and lived fast. Why not? She had her momma’s love, her grand-daddy’s ranch and her winning horse.

Now, nearly two years after losing it all, Tanna has no identity and even less money. Desperate, she turns to her friends for help. On her first night in town, Tanna vows to end her carousing ways with one last fling. The target…any man that will buy her a drink. After about 8 free shots, Fletch calls her bluff and the two get down and dirty. I loved their honesty and their steam. But like all of the best one-night-stands, Tanna was gone in the morning. The upshot was an amazing night for Fletch…the downside was that for the first time ever, he wanted the woman there in the morning.

Enjoy!

It is not a secret that Ms. James writes some of the best contemporary western romances to grace the erotic genre. Her heroes are swoon worthy, and her heroines are more than likable.

If you are not a newbie to Ms. James’ work, Turn and Burn will not disappoint you. August “Fletch” Fletcher and Tanna Barker’s story starts out with a bang and will leave you grinning throughout the entire book.

From the beginning of the book tall, dark, and sexy Veterinarian Fletch knows what he wants, and that is the one and only sassy, outspoken, two time world champion barrel racer Miss. Tanna Barker.

I really liked Fletch and Tanna. They were a perfect match and their chemistry was off the charts.

If you have not started this series yet, I suggest you start with Corralled the first in the Blacktop Cowboys series. But hurry up because you have a lot of catching up to do!

Tanna Barker experienced a disastrous injury that has manifested into a full-blown phobia of horses. She has lost her love for barrel racing as the rest of her world falls apart. Unexpectedly, her mother dies, then her father remarries and has sold the ranch, leaving her feeling adrift with no real purpose.

She stumbles on August Fletcher, a veterinarian in a hot one-night stand but after that explosive night of chemistry, both of them are wondering if this could be something more. Fletch soon finds out that Tanna is staying in Muddy Gap and makes it his personal goal to convince her they should be together. However, Tanna’s spit-fire personality will definitely put up some barriers that Fletch needs to go through first.

As expected, Lorelei James provides readers with a singe-your-eyebrows hot romance that delves deeper than ever before. TURN AND BURN is not simply about overcoming the fear of falling in love; it also deals with facing your fears. Loyalty and courage are two things addressed in this novel, making it universally relatable for all readers. Both characters turned out to be more than I expected. James creates such richly nuanced characters that are multidimensional and shockingly real.

In addition to that, James provides updates on past characters, creating a bigger picture while also solidifying the familial aspect to this series that has made it so successful. I loved the way James integrated the past characters into this storyline. Romantic love isn’t the only kind of love you get in this book. There’s also friendship and family that strengthens this series.

James has another winner on her hands. With clever dialogue and endearing characters, there is no question that readers will fall both in lust and love for TURN AND BURN.

Did not keep my interest.

I read the first 200 pages and the last 4 chapters. Not enough story. Characters not interesting enough. I’ve really enjoyed some of her other books but this one felt like she had nothing to write about. If you’ve not read this author before, note that her Cowboy books have erotic and graphic sex scenes.

The books I liked were Cowgirl Up and Ride, All Jacked Up, and Raising Kane.

I read an Uncorrected Proof - Not for Sale.

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Book length: 351 pages. Swearing language: strong including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: more than 5, including some tying up, spanking, and rear door activity. Setting: mostly current day Wyoming. Copyright: 2013. Genre: erotic contemporary western romance.

Ok I’ll admit it.. I’m totally fangirl crazy over Lorelei James. I may even have a small girl crush on her. She totally sucked me in from the first novella I read by her, and this latest release Turn and Burn is beyond freaking fantastic. I literally sat down to read it and could not put it down till I finished. I was so drawn into the lives of both of these two people. I have to say one of my biggest reasons for loving the Blacktop Cowboys series is the fact that with each book you get has such different characters and story. From book one to now book five each man and woman is so different from the others, and yet still able to relate to the others in the series. While Lorelei’s books in this series and in her Rough Riders are all cowboy related, you never get the feeling of damnit I’ve read this before.

August Fletcher (my new book boyfriend, that’s right ladies I’ve claimed him as MINE!! Hehehe) has one priority in life and that is his veterinary practice. He hasn’t taken even a day off in the years since he got out of college. He isn’t so happy with his life these days. Most of his friends have now paired off and started families, and while he is happy for them sometimes being around them points out the emptiness of his own life. Until the night he meets the one one-night stand that throws his whole world for a loop.

Tanna Barker life has been in total chaos for the last two years since the death of her mother. She suffered a life altering injury, and now wrestles with a fear that could end her career. She is going to be spending the summer in Muddy Gap, because her closest friends got her a temporary job at the Split Rock. After a chance meeting with Fletch, Tanna fights tooth and nail not to give into the powerful pull of lust and attraction between them. Try as she might she is no match for the sweet sexiness that is Fletch. But can he break down all the walls that she has built up??

These two brought out every emotion I have. I cried with them, laughed, and lusted too. I think I related most to Tanna than I have to any female character I’ve read. I have been in her shoes where an accident jacked up my knee and gave me a fear that I still wrestle with today. I absolutely adore the way that Lorelei didn’t gloss over her healing. Every day is a struggle when you have an irrational fear, and it takes lots of work to get past it. It would have been too easy to have her better in a matter of chapters, but this is a truly realistic beautiful journey!!

Spoiler Ahead This was book 5 in the "Blacktop Cowboys" series. Tanna Barker is a world champion barrel racer. After her mother’s unexpected death, her father has remarried, and sold the Texas ranch she called home. After she is injured she is left broken and at a standstill in her life. August Fletcher is all about his job. Being a vet for large animals in a farm town means he works all hours of the night and was always on call. Fletch has never even taken a vacation since he started his practice. He only wished he could find someone who could handle his ridiculous schedule. When a one night stand turns into something more they leave without getting each others names. When they run into each other again, Fletch saw it as a second chance with Tanna, but she was not one for anything long-term. Fletch would have been okay with that himself except he felt that there was something special between them. So he proposed that they keep seeing each other until she leaves town. Fletch, who soon started to really fall for Tanna and wanted something a little more permanent with her hoped that he can convince her to stay. Since Tanna's terrible rodeo injury she had developed a debilitating fear of horses. She couldn't go near a horse much less ride one without having a panic attack. This may be a career ender for the three-time world champion barrel racer unless she pulls through it. Fletch, despite knowing that if she can get over her fear and race professionally again he'll lose. So he worked with her and pushed Tanna harder than any one. Both were very stubborn and don't want a long-term relationship I really liked both of these characters. I love reading this series the sex scenes in this book were hot. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I can't wait for this book!

For some reason I thought this book would be about Tanna and Devin, so I was surprised to see it was about Tanna and August Fletcher. Looking forward to it though. Hopefully maybe we'll get a Devin book down the line. I've been rereading the whole series and love them :)

I received a free copy of Lorelei James' new book Turn and Burn as a Goodreads first reader giveaway. YUM YUM! I consumed this book in two days. I am no cowgirl but I enjoyed the story and characters so much, I would gladly move to Wyoming and live on a ranch if there was a chance of even meeting one of these smoldering men. The sex scenes are incendiary...I was sweating just from reading. The story is touching, funny, insightful, and human. The writing is superb. The only complaint I have is that it had to end. I will certainly buy more from this author.

Rating: C ... Heat: Sizzling

Former barrel racing champion Tanna Barker is looking for a fresh start. After a bad accident on her horse, Tanna is afraid to get back on the saddle. Tanna’s afraid of a lot of things really—horses, men, relationships, her former life in Texas. So she's packed up and is temporarily moving to Wyoming to work at the Split Rock, a resort that’s owned by one of her friend’s husband. And what does Miss Tanna do her first night in town? She hooks up with a random (and totally sexy) stranger she meets at a bar. Once her wild night of fun is over, Tanna does what she usually does—splits—expecting to never see her handsome hookup again.

A few days later, however, there he is. August Fletcher, an overworked veterinarian who also happens to be one sweet talker. Even though he many not have a lot of suave moves, he gets you with his honesty and directness. He says what he means and then acts on it accordingly. But falling for Fletch, who never has a day off and might be the hardest working man in Wyoming, isn't something Tanna wants to do. Too bad Fletch is resilient and stubborn. Even more so than our super stubborn heroine.

These two have, oddly enough given their initial hookup, a very slow build. Tanna takes a lot of convincing. Nearly one third of the book goes by and she wouldn't even agree to a date. I never really understood the hold up on her part and it really bogged things down. Once she finally relents and Fletch gets a long and much need sabbatical from his practice, well, that's when things heat up. And up and up.

James is known for writing a certain kind of rough and gruff and dominant hero and Fletch is no exception. He's quite the beast in bed. And since he has to handle large stock seven days a week, he’s also really well built. Plus there’s the fact that he a true gentleman on top of all that? Heck yeah I'd want to lick him from his neck to his... you know... too.

Which is why I just did not get Tanna at all. There are a lot of things I liked about her, don’t get me wrong—she’s sassy and smart and she’s got quite the mouth on her—but I simply did not like her. She pussyfooted around forever. She refused to show almost any real emotions without sarcasm. There were other small things that annoyed me but, as a whole, Tanna and I simply didn’t gel. Which is unusual, as I have loved every other heroine Miz James has written, but it happens.

Turn and Burn starts out white hot and, though it slows down for a period, only manages to get even hotter. August Fletcher is the heart of this book for me, with his straightforward methods of seduction. For a man who doesn’t have a lot of free time, he knows how to make the most of his nights off. I wish I had grown to love Tanna too but it just didn’t happen. Still, if you’re in the mood for sexy cowboys who get down and dirty on the job and off—no one beats a Lorelei James hero!

Favorite Quote: “Ride me, cowgirl.”

Tanna Barker was at the top of the rodeo world with three world championships under her belt and an endless supply of willing cowboys to ride. That was until a rodeo injury sidelined her and she lost everything. With her family gone and her reputation in shreds, Tanna heads to Muddy Gap, Wyoming for a chance to lick her wounds and regroup. When her sexy one night stand shows up in the daylight looking for something more permanent, Tanna wonders if she can handle everything this sexy cowboy wants to give her.

August “Fletch” Fletcher is all about working hard and playing harder. As one of the only big stock veterinarians in the area, Fletch knows his job leaves a lot to be desired and finding a woman willing to put up with the long hours and constant emergencies is hard. He has had his share of one night stands and sees nothing wrong as long as everyone knows the score. That all changes when a sassy rodeo queen takes him on the ride of his life, only to sneak out before he was done. Fletch wants Tanna for more than a night, but Tanna has plans of her own. Plans that do not include staying in Muddy Gap and playing doctor with the local vet.

When a forced vacation has Fletch staying at the same resort where Tanna is working, the sparks fly and emotions go wild. Fletch and Tanna spend time getting to know one another and connecting in ways they never imagined. When an offer of a lifetime comes Tanna’s way, can she have the best of both worlds or will she have to choose between the love of her life and her lifelong dream?

Turn and Burn is the fifth installment in Lorelei James’s Blacktop Cowboy series. A wild and steamy erotic romance adventure that pits strong willed heroines against sexy alpha males in a fun often raunchy battle of the wills that leads them straight to bed. Well written with witty dialogue, strong characters, and emotionally stirring storylines. Plenty of humor and sex made this story a joy to read. Though the story centers strongly on our protagonists and their journey, we do see some small sub plots that intertwine and reveal slowly throughout, giving us clues to future books.

Tanna Barker is a delightful woman. The perfect blending of strength and vulnerability, she was a joy to get to know. Strong, intelligent, funny, and soft hearted, she’ll do anything for a friend but don’t expect her to roll over and expose her throat. She’s only submissive when she chooses to be. She learned the hard way that life as Queen of the Hill can be taken away in a single moment. Her accident and the death of her racing horse has left Tanna incapacitated around horses. Celia, her best friend and former Rodeo Queen herself, convinces Tanna to come to Muddy Gap and work with Eli, a renown horse whisperer. If he can help Tanna overcome her fear and the guilt over the accident, then Tanna plans to head back to Texas and barrel racing. One night with August Fletcher leaves Tanna confused and hungry for more. Tanna knows she isn’t in Muddy Gap for long and doesn’t want to start something she knows can’t last, but Fletch is charmingly demanding. He is infatuated with her smart mouth, crazy attitude, and zest for life. He knows she is leaving but he can’t let her go without seeing where their attraction can lead them.

“That is so not fair, “ she hissed.
“What?”
“Looking at me with those sexy bedrooms eyes, stripping me naked like you’re deciding which part of me you want to devour first.”

Fletch is the perfect blend of arrogance and charm. A sexy delicious alpha who challenges and encourages Tanna without attempting to control her. He sees her strength and determination and it only increases his attraction for her. He’s a workaholic whose inability to delegate is the reason he hasn’t had a committed relationship in years. Meeting Tanna has him reflecting on his personal life and what he’s willing to give up to have her. His loneliness is felt and I couldn’t help but cheer for him as he slowly worked his way into Tanna’s heart. He has no serious baggage to overcome but he does have a problem with communicating his feelings. His fear of Tanna leaving has him unable to let her know how he really feels and this causes some problems.

Tanna and Fletch are good together. VERY good together. In and out of bed. Some characters just click and you can feel that in here. Heavy chemistry and tension gets your heart pumping as these two begin the age old of dance of love. They have a strong sexual connection that is apparent from page one. Fletch has an attractive dominant streak that comes out in the bedroom and that leads to some very smexy scenes with explicit detailing and a strong dose of fun and romance. I enjoyed the fact that neither of them played games or were ashamed of their sexual appetites. Both Tanna and Fletch had no problem telling each other what they wanted and getting down and dirty to get it.

“Ever been sucked off in your office?”
He shook his head.
“Seriously? A hot doctor like you never had a veterinary assistant follow you in here, lock the door and get on her knees?”

Watching Tanna learn to get back on her feet is heartwarming. Her journey is and emotional experience as she has to learn to grieve, let go of the past, and forgive herself. I can’t imagine fearing something that I loved all my life and that is the position Tanna is in right now. With the help of old and new friends, Tanna begins taking baby steps and finds her own way out of the darkness she’s placed herself in. Though the ending is predictable, the path to it is anything but. Ms. James doesn’t give her lovers an easy HEA and you find yourself crossing your fingers and toes as you watch these two stumble through some pitfalls.

I feel Turn and Burn is one of the strongest in this series to date. A sexy, erotic, funny, and engaging romantic contemporary that will have you laughing, sighing, and begging for more once the last page is read. I look forward to the next one in this series.

Tanna’s friends helped her get a summer job in Muddy Gap at the local resort as she’s trying to overcome her new fear of horses. She suffered a horrible accident during one of her barrel racing competitions that left her badly injured and her horse having to be put down. She hasn’t been able to get close to a horse since and she’s dealing with nightmares and guilt that she let her horse down. While she’s in Muddy Gap for the summer, she’s thinking about working with Eli, a man who many think can help her get over her fear and start to ride again and it gives her a place to stay, a home base; something she hasn’t had in a long time.

After a one night stand with a sexy, hot man where no names were exchanged, Tanna starts her new job and runs into said man out on a ranch. He’s the local veterinarian, Fletch, and he wants to get know Tanna a lot more than just the one night they had together. She intrigued him from the start with her smart mouth and attitude and he won’t let her go so easily again this time. After a sabbatical is forced on him by his father and his office manager, workaholic Fletch takes some time away from his demanding career to focus on his personal life and that completely revolves around Tanna.

…Fletch stood on the rug. His hands hung by his sides. He looked gorgeous with that hot, turned-on male glaze in his eyes. The flush to his cheeks. His ragged breaths. The bulge in his jeans.

Tanna nearly lost the ability to breathe when he said, “Come. Here.”

(…)

“I’ve been dying to get my hands on you since the moment I woke up alone in that crummy motel room. Fucking you in your truck took the edge off. But I’m nowhere near done with you. And this time, there’s no rush.”

She rubbed her cheek against his and whispered, “But I love it hard and fast.”

“I’m gonna try my damndest to make you love it long and slow too.”

Tanna and Fletch have no trouble in the bedroom. They’re hot, a little bit raunchy, and a lot sexy. The main focus of the story stays on Tanna and Fletch, their careers and their relationship and I loved that focus. There isn’t a lot of outside supporting characters coming through the story. Their friends and residents of Muddy Gap do show up, but it’s just enough to add to the story and not take the spotlight off the leading couple. Tanna had a reputation for being wild and an anything-goes kind of girl and Fletch takes full advantage of that. They have chemistry from the moment they meet, but their struggle is really opening up to each other. It’s a slow process, as they’re both dealing with career issues, but they get there eventually after a few bumps along the way.

Tanna’s struggle with her fear and not knowing what direction her career is going in is something she’s thinking about constantly. She manages to slowly get back on track and it takes the help of many people to push her into beating this fear that’s taken over her life. For a woman who was born to ride and compete, not being able to be on a horse is heartbreaking and I couldn’t help but smile when she finally starts to make small steps forward. I also love any book that has a sports theme and that includes rodeo. I loved the scenes of Tanna turning and burning around the barrels and with the way that Lorelei James describes them, it felt like I was right there watching and cheering for her.

I was trying to think of the best way to describe Fletch and that would be solid. He works hard, maybe a little too much, he loves hard, but he’s nervous about telling Tanna how he really feels because his fear is that she’ll take off. I liked the struggle he had between a career that was burning him out and trying to find a personal life. Tanna gives him the reason to start to want a life outside of his practice and he starts to realize that all work and no play is no good. Sure, they have some issues to work though, mainly her career that, once back on track, will take her away from Fletch and on the road and Fletch’s career that has him on call at all hours of the day, 7 days a week. I liked the resolution they found and I especially enjoyed having the epilogue at the end that lets us see exactly where this couple ends up and it’s very sweet and perfect.

Turn and Burn is one of the strongest installments in Lorelei James’ Blacktop Cowboys series. I loved the strong heroine in Tanna, she brings life to the story and her fight to overcome her fear brings a lot of heart. The relationship between Fletch and Tanna is easy to fall into and I loved seeing them become stronger together.

I said it once, and I'll say it again....Lorelei James is one of the best Western Romance writers out there. She puts so much heart and soul in to her characters that they just jump right off the pages and in to the hearts of every reader. You will fall in love with Tanna and Fletch instantly! I must admit that this is the first Blacktop Cowboy book I have read, and now I am kicking myself in the ass for not starting this series sooner!

"You done looking your fill? Or did you want me to turn around so you can ogle my ass to?"
Tanna is a badass cowgirl who knows her way around the hearts of every wannabe cowboy out there. She goes in, makes up a ridiculous story, gets what she wants, whether it be a shot of tequila or a quick romp in the hay, and gets out. No emotions, no attachments. After her mother's death, and then a horrible rodeo injury, she was at a standstill in her life. She was broken.

August Fletcher was all about the job. Being a vet for large animals in a farm town meant that he worked all hours of the night, and was always on call. Fletch has never even taken a vacation since he started his practice. He only wished he could find someone who could handle his ridiculous schedule.

Who knew a SEXY one night stand between these two could turn in to something more. They didn't even get each other's names or contact info for cryin' out loud. After that scorching night, when they parted ways, there was no way that they could deny the sense of longing that they still had for one another, but they surely would never see each other again, right? Well, FATE decided differently.

"I wanna fuck you every way I can think up. Hard. Fast. Dirty. Rough. Nasty. I wanna use my mouth, my teeth, my hands and my cock in ways that'll make you blush, make you scream and make you cream. I wanna strip this down between us to pure, animal fucking. It'll take the edge off and then some."
EXPLOSIVE! That is the word I would use for the chemistry between Tanna and Fletch. Wow! When these two got together, sparks were definitely flying in the bedroom! Not only was there a blistering connection between the two, it eventually grew into a deeper connection, a beautiful connection, that just melt your heart. I was a big fan of Tanna right away. Not only was she a stubborn, tough, sassy cowgirl with that southern twang, but she was a true survivor. I love how much she grew in this story. Definitely had me in tears throughout her tough journey. And Fletch, my GOD! This beautiful man knew just how to break down Tanna's walls. This Greek god of a cowboy, was an amazing vet, caring friend, hell of a sweet talker, and a demanding lover. He had to be somethin' else if he could tame someone like Tanna.

"He'd helped her take the first step. The rest was up to her. And for the first time in months, she had a feeling of hope."
I laughed, I blushed (A LOT), and I cried. TURN AND BURN is a story about facing one's fears. It's about learning how to trust, it's about letting people in to help you with those fears, but most of all it's about never giving up hope. Lorelei James always gives us seductive, dreamy cowboys that have us readers curling our toes, but with this story, I believe that every single one of you will take something from it. I believe that you will connect with these characters in a way that not only will enhance the story for you, but will dig deep enough to touch your heart and to truly believe in these beautiful characters.

TURN AND BURN can be read as a standalone, but there are some updates on past characters that might make more sense if you read from the beginning! This is my first Blacktop Cowboy read, but you bet your sweet ass that I will be purchasing the rest of the series as soon as I can!

I completely flipped over Fletch and Tanna. Tanna has been one of those characters that since the first time she came on the page I have WANTED, no NEEDED her story. She's fun, a bit of a smart ass, interesting, broken, stubborn, and full of passion. What's not to love, right? So for me, as much as I absolutely fell in love with Fletch, I admit to having a total girl crush on her. The parts in the book that showed her fire and strength were the best for me.

Fletch is.....wow, what isn't he? He's one of those heroes who makes you melt and spontaneously combust at the same time. He was everything I wanted for Tanna and more. He's a take charge kind of guy but so so sweet. Fletch has been added to my book boyfriend list, very close to the top.

Thank goodness the Mud Lilies were back and the relationship they have with the group of guys from Muddy Gap is entertaining to say the least, but its also so heart-rendering. They all look out for each other and the dept of their bonds are clearly shown with a measure of emotion that will have you reaching for the Kleenex this go around.

I LOVE to revisit this close knit group of friends. This is just one of those series that leaves you feeling good and is it just me or do they keep getting better and better? If you are already a fan of Lorelei James then you know what to expect as far as the heat level of her books, but if you are not, be warned, because you'll feel like you need a cold shower. As much as I adore and recommend this book, I would read the series in order.

I loved everything about this book. The story, the secondary characters, the writing, the couple, the smexin', ALL OF IT. This one stuck with me for weeks after I read it and in my book that is a WINNER every time.

Enjoy!

Update: I've now read the first 4 and this book is a lot more enjoyable knowing the other characters and it was easier to keep them all straight.

I won this book from the Goodreads giveaway. I'll give it 3.5 stars leaning towards 4, so I put 4 stars above. I broke my own rule by reading this book - #5 in a series when I haven't read books 1-4. So, while I liked this book, I may come back and reassess my star rating after I've read the first books. Lots of characters to keep straight which I think would have been easier if I'd read the earlier books. As for the main characters, I actually found Tanna a little hard to like. I can't put into words why, some of her actions were just off putting to me. I loved Fletch though and I have to admit the scene with Tilly and her dog had me in tears.

Lots of steamy sex scenes as I would expect to find in a Lorelei James book and an entertaining read. I'm curious to check out more of this series, but in all honestly I'll throw them aside for a new Rough Riders book any day.

I really enjoyed this one. I thought that Fletch's concerns about finding someone who could put up with his schedule was valid. I was so mad at the two of them though. They were both older (mid to late 30's) and they were so juvenile at times. So good old fashion talking could have saved them both a lot of heartache. I'm glad they got it together though.

This is a series that I didn't take to immediately. I wasn't happy with the first book but over time I think the series has gotten better and better.

Tanna is my kind of women, sexy wild smart mouthed, takes no shit! and Fletch I mean a sexy ass veterinarian cowboy!! But besides that his character is amazing, he is such a hard working man an just wants to make everyone happy EVERYONE and he starts to learn you can't always make everyone happy and it was time to put his happiness 1st.

I loved it!!

I think I'm a little in love with August Fletcher. I love his combination of brains, domination, and romance. He's just what Miss Tanna needed. Loved this!

A 4.5 star book for me:

As much as I've loved Lorelei's Rough Rider series, the Blacktop Cowboy series has seriously grown on me and while Bran and Harper (Saddled & Spurred) continue to be my favorite couple in this series and Bran is still my top man, Dr. August "Fletch" Fletcher has given him a serious run for the money. More than that though, I loved the hard road to a relationship that Fletch and Tanna had to travel to get to their happily ever after. It proved that Tanna is the tough Texas woman she was born to be and that Fletch was the gentle giant although alpha Wyoming man able to handle her.

I'm going to admit upfront that at the start of this story I was seriously concerned it was going to piss me off. Since the very first book in this series Tanna Barker has been this larger than life, no holds barred, spirited, raunchy, fun loving woman and I admired her greatly so to see her so broken I was more than a little upset. But leave it to Lorelei to show us another side to Tanna and that she just needed someone to understand every side of her and to help her through the darkness so she could shine again. Luckily that someone was none other than Fletch and holy hell, I can guar-an-damn-tee there are a lot of women who after reading this book will want this 6 ft. 5in. of sinful man flesh helping them through the roughest patch in their lives.

While it was difficult to watch Tanna overcome her fears and regain her spunk and her love for riding I love that Fletch was there to help and as a soft spot for her to land. I also love that because of her he realized he needed some much needed balance in his life something everyone has been telling him but he ignored. These two complement each other and neither one is scared to show their bold, bawdy side to the other which was just fine with me. Their chemistry is off the charts and their sex scenes hotter than a Texas summer and just as steamy to boot.

While the majority of this story was about Fletch and Tanna and her recovery, we did see most of the couples from the previous books and it was nice to check in and see how they are doing. We got a good dose of the Mud Lilies and I so want to be a just like these ladies 20 years from now. We also saw a lot of Eli Whirling Cloud (Fletch's cousin) and his new lady love. And while I enjoyed seeing this, I was left with a lot of questions because this is a new relationship and I felt like we missed something and dammit, I want to know what I missed! However, even with this little frustrating side plot this was an excellent story and a great addition to this series.

With each one of the books in the Blacktop Cowboy series, I find myself more and more enthralled with this "family" of friends and their relationship to one another. I'm absolutely enamored with the town of Muddy Gap, the Spit Rock Ranch & Resort, and can't wait to see who's up next. Will it be recording star Devin or perhaps Hugh or there's always Tobin? Whoever it is, I have no doubt their story will be as fresh, entertaining and enjoyable as Turn and Burn!

Tanna is spending her summer in Muddy Gap while she gets her life back together after the accident that has kept her away from what she loves - horses and barrel racing. Never one to think twice about spending the night with a guy, she hooks up with a handsome, enigmatic man.

Fletch doesn't have time for a relationship, but after seeing his friends settling down he feels like something's missing from his life. But again, his practice as a large animal veterinarian doesn't leave him much time to think about it, so he settles for one-night stands when the need arises. That is until Tanna. He can't stop thinking about the feisty, passionate woman he spend the night with.

Ha! This was such a great read. I loved it all!

Once again, Lorelei James brings about the sexy, cowboy romance we have come to expect from her. But this time around she brings along a good deal of emotions with it too. I got the hot alpha-cowboy with a caring and tender side paired up with a strong-headed, insatiable, troubled woman. What more could you ask for? Wonderful, well-written characters, scorching-hot sex scenes, emotional moments and honest and flirtatious dialog. I read it in once sitting and wanted more!

I loved the way Tanna and Fletch were brought together. Their relationship developed over time with a good foundation of friendship and trust. This in turn helped to solidify their connection , thus making it easier for me to accept their crazy arrangement and cheer them on to make it something more. I appreciated that the romance wasn't rushed or all wrapped up with a pretty bow. There were doubts, hesitations, attitudes and major disagreements, but along with these were the emotional confessions, the tender moments and the honest exchange of needs. And fiery-hot sex, sex, sex. A very enjoyable read, indeed!

Of course, I enjoyed catching up with all the other characters from previous books. It was nice to see Renner and Tierney, Hank and Lanie, and Celia and Kyle. I enjoyed their interactions with the main characters and the humor and banter they added to the story. I especially enjoyed the Mud Lilies. Those little old ladies cracked me up!

Although Turn and Burn is the fifth book in the Blacktop Cowboys series it can be read as a stand alone too. I can't wait for more. There are many possibilities for romance with all those hot cowboys, but I'm especially interested in Tobin's story. Yum!

I received this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.

This was not my favorite entry in this series so far.

In previous books, I'd been curious/interested in seeing Fletch and Tanna find their respective HEA's (even if it had been with other people). They were both interesting people who were definitely hiding things from the world and I was curious to see their backgrounds and how things would go. But wow, were these two annoying. Don't get me wrong, their chemistry was amazing and the smexy times were hot but this book could have been 200 pages shorter and we still would have gotten the same thing: Tanna not wanting to admit that she's feeling lost and terrified and so she runs at the first hint of considering change and Fletch realizing he wants Tanna to stick around but not sure how to do it so he goes caveman or sullen at the worst times.

Overall, Tanna was great but I got really frustrated at how much time she spent running from everyone and every thing. I totally get being in a situation and getting scared to get back to it but Tanna either needed to be willing to try again or she needed to walk away completely. The fact that she kept yo-yoing and then would talk to everyone but Fletch about how she was feeling had me rolling my eyes. Granted, Fletch finally called her on it, but that was after he got the speech about how he kind of needed to wait her out (which isn't fair, IMO, but that's besides the point). I did love how much she cared about Celia and the others and how quickly she tried to help when she could.

Fletch was pretty great as well. Perfect mix of dominant in bed and big old teddy bear everywhere else. Loved the way he cared about his patients even if he was a massive workaholic who didn't know how to take a vacation when it was staring him in the face (I did laugh at that situation though because it was hilarious). I did wish he'd thought a few more things through because there were a few instances where he jumped to the worst possible outcome, usually when Tanna was trying to figure out how to run away, and he just made things worse. Admittedly, he was usually able to kick himself out of whatever funk (usually with kick in the pants or two) but still.

TURN AND BURN, Book 5 of Lorelei James' Blacktop Cowboys is a wonderful addition to the series. If you haven't started reading this series, you need to! But, I strongly suggest you start from the beginning and read them in order.

Fletch didn't leave much of an impression on me from the earlier books. Maybe because the hardworking veterinarian's appearances were so brief. Now that I know him better, however, I love him! He's the perfect combination of smart, sweet, funny and commanding. Oh yeah, and super hot.
Tanna is dealing with the many losses in her life over the last couple of years. Her mom, her home, her horse, and possibly her barrel racing career. She's not quite the feisty cowgirl we've come to know and love. Her sexy flirting covers up her fear, guilt and loss of confidence. She's stubborn and proud and has a hard time asking for help. Fortunately for Tanna, Fletch is used to dealing with skittish animals and he is the perfect person to help get her back in the saddle. He's gentle, yet firm. He is exactly what Tanna needs.
I think that Lorelei James is a master at writing great relationships. Not just romantic relationships, but friendships, families and communities. The relationships in this series are one of my favorite things about it. The life-long friendships between most of the men, the strong friendships between the women, mostly forged on the rodeo circuit, and the relationships they all have with a great group of older women, The Mud Lilies. The Mud Lilies are a little...make that a lot..wild! They're mother figures, mentors, drinking buddies. There is genuine love, support and affection between the younger characters and the Mud Lilies, as well as within the group, itself. I don't often cry when reading, but I admit I did tear up while reading this book.

I definitely recommend this book, this series and this author.

Turn and Burn (Blacktop Cowboys #5) by Lorelei James
D+, inferno, mild kink, contemp, 368 pages

Tanna was hurt in a barrel racing accident and hasn't been able to get on a horse again.  Unfortunately, that kind of leaves her floundering as barrel racing was her life.  She agrees to help some friends out with their resort over the summer.  Fletch is an over worked veterinarian.  But when he hooks up with Tanna, who he calls 'Sugar Twang' (she shall forever be 'Sugar Twang' in my head), he feels the longing for something more.  But he's definitely tied to the area while Sugar Twang is only there temporarily.  How can the two of them possibly work?

Okay, that's all that general stuff you can get by reading the book description (well, except for the Sugar Twang bit, I threw that in for a bonus).  Now, onto what you really want to know.

I think that we all know that Lorelei James succeeds at writing series that keep us coming back for more and more and more. Turn and Burn is filled with all the things that should keep you coming back for more. It is a solid entry into the series, but it didn't blow my socks off. There was nothing extremely memorable about either Fletch or Sugar Twang. And unfortunately, a day later, I'm already forgetting them a bit. Fans of Lorelei James, and especially her Blacktop Cowboys series, will enjoy this one, but I don't think this is the best example of her writing.

The other thing I think I need to address in this one is Fletch's nickname for Tanna. Sugar Twang. Now I'm generally fine with nicknames. But for some reason this one grated wrong. And it was on every page. I didn't enjoy the book as much because every time I read it, it pulled me out of the story a bit. Sugar Twang? *shuddering*

I did not read the previous 4 books in the series, but I don't suppose that matters. A lot of them made an appearance in this book, so readers are updated on their "happily ever afters" and all their babies.

I have to be honest. At first, I did not like Fletch at all. After Tanna agrees to a no- names one night stand with him, he gets all super douche on her and possessive. I mean, seriously dud, she didn't tell you her name and you AGREED to that. Then because you randomly felt something different (the guy is a self- proclaimed man- whore) you are willing to stalk her everywhere and be possessive in the hopes that she will sleep with you again because it was the greatest sex EVER. Now, call me a jerk, but he is not a very like able character- AT FIRST. He grew on me. He had to grow on Tanna, too, and I liked that a lot. She realized he was being a macho jerk at first. And he had to realize that he was being a complete ass- hat and take it down a notch or two. After that, the flirting and the friendship were cute.

Tanna was majorly damaged for a good part of the book. I love her story from how she fell from being a spoiled rodeo star. She literally and figuratively "fell off you high horse". She openly admitted that she was ashamed of the person she was before she was forced to completely change her way of life. I LOVE that the book has so much more than just her and Fletch eye- banging each other. There is some real substance to go with the romance I love so much. (: It was a very sweet story and I love how Fletch progressed and became a more like-able person throughout the book. Tanna as well.

Side note- I love the "Mud Lilies". They were hilarious. :D
