A classic western novel from Frank Wheeler with non-stop epic adventure and a blend of western romance
Dakota Thorne was happy to get home to his wife. After six years building the Transcontinental Railroad, all he wanted was a bed, a home, and a woman to love. Until the night Crawford Lory had it all ripped away.
Dakota almost lost his life. Instead, he just lost the life he’d dreamed of.
Now, a year later, it looks like Crawford may have been acting on someone else’s orders. His boss tells him it was Chen Hai, Chinatown’s most infamous opium dealer. Chen says it’s his boss, Pat Buzzard, a railroad tycoon turned gambling hall magnate.
The only person Dakota knows he can trust is Leila Lockhart, the daughter of a prominent judge, and his secret stalker. Leila led a sheltered life until she made it her mission to learn everything she could about Dakota. She needs his help, and she won’t take no for an answer. Everywhere Dakota turns, someone wants him dead. People say if he’s going to survive, he’ll have to pick a side.
But Dakota’s not taking sides, he’s taking justice. Will he be the last man standing when the gunsmoke has cleared?
Each novel in the series is a standalone western which can be read out of order.
Frank Wheeler is an American novelist of Westerns. Since childhood, he has always been fascinated with western history. Frank loves sharing his love of western history through his writing that will entertain readers, and has taken great joy in publishing his Westward Saga series.
He currently lives in Texas with his wife, and three children.
Dakota Thorne trudged up the dusty path, his weathered boots kicking up small clouds of dirt after a grueling six-year stint with the railroad. During the night, three menacing silhouettes crept toward his cabin, their intentions dark and sinister. Inside, his unsuspecting wife Hazel sat unaware, about to be thrust into a terrifying confrontation that would shatter the peaceful reunion Dakota had long anticipated. Dakota tries to save her but she is killed and he is shot and stabbed. His neighbors find him and get him to the doctor. Hazel owned 100 acres of land that he has now inherited. After Hazel's death Dakota becomes embroiled with ruthless gangs employed by two wealthy men who want his land. It is a well written story filled with corruption and violence.
I enjoyed this story with all it's twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. It takes you on an adventure that has all the action and intrigue you could want. I'm looking forwawuthorrd to the next book by the author due on June 19.
