Women who are facing the reality of widowhood are often connected by a common thread of grief and uncertainty. Hope for an Aching Heart offers encouragement to help readers handle the challenges of each day with God’s grace. Sharing from a widow’s heart, the author weaves personal stories, Scripture, and prayers into 60 days of inspirational thoughts that motivate readers to draw closer to God. This heartfelt and engaging devotional helps to broaden women’s understanding of the depth of God’s love, His tender care, and His promise to always be with them.
While I am not a widow, I have experienced loss of a spouse through divorce. There are many similarities. Margaret Nyman never planned to be writing her book of devotions for widows when she married Nate. They lived their busy lives, raising six children, and then relocating to downsize only to be hit with a bombshell: CANCER!!! Nate was diagnosed and only lived 42 days after his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. Margaret has written beautiful, often painful, heart-wrenching devotions for widows and those grieving and those who are helping widows through their loss. She uses scriptures and personal experiences to give comfort to those who are experiencing the loss of a beloved spouse. She gives tips for how to adjust and shares things that were helpful to her and things that were not so helpful to her. I think this book would be valuable for counselors, nurses, doctors, pastors, as well as widows and their families. It will open the eyes to the hearts of those grieving around us.
I purchased Hope for the Aching Heart at my first writing conference for a friend of mine who had just lost her husband to cancer. I had the privilege of meeting Ms. Nyman and asked her to sign it for my friend. Her words were very encouraging.
My friend found this book invaluable. Not only were the devotions raw and relatable to what my friend was experiencing, the scriptures encouraged her and ministered to her daily. She has read it over several times. My friend told me she looked for books for widows and found very few. She was so thankful to have this book to help guide her through her feelings.
I have purchased this book for other widows who also found the words comforting and helpful; uplifting and encouraging.
I just recently read the book myself and found that not only does it aide widows, but also can help those who have lost a spouse through divorce like I did. The loneliness is real and the road forward without a spouse by your side is difficult to navigate. I would recommend this book to any who have lost a loved one whether through death or divorce. It makes a great gift for the grieving.
This a a good book for widows. The author was blessed to have a husband for 39 years. Like her, I quickly lost my husband to brain cancer. He died two weeks short of our 30th anniversary. These short devotions will help a widow at any age and stage.
This book is meant to be a devotional for those who have recently been widowed. I thought the devotionals were well thought out and beautifully written. There are no meaningless words filling the pages but thoughtful and encouraging ones.
I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked the loving way in which the author wrote some of her own personal experiences and feelings. This is a book that will encourage all who are going through a time of grieving in their lives. I would recommend this book to give as a gift to any friend who has recently lost a spouse.
I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
